I'm at level 33 in 70+ hours. Still plenty to discover in the game. At least half the map left. Story wise, im enjoying it a lot and there's over 70 story quests compared to under 25 in Origins. Almost triple the mount.
As for side quests, I have enjoyed the majority of them but I have also avoided all the side quests on the message boards once you leave the prologue region as well as all the timed missions and the missions that have arrows pointing in two different directions. These are the randomly generated quests which I have no interest in doing.
I do all the main story quests obviously and all the main side quests and character quests. The mercenaries are also randomly generated and way more than 50 because when you go to a different region, you'll notice that all the mercenary's change from what it was before.
For me, Odyssey is an easy 9.0/10, maybe a 9.5/10 depending on how the story plays out. It's not The Witcher III killer (no game this gen will be) but Origins/Odyssey are better than the majority of WRPGS out there in my opinion which is pretty impressive considering that Origins was the first in the series to truly go in an WRPG direction.
My negatives for the game is the recruiting system which unless it's someone from a side quest line that I don't even bother. All the randomly generated side quests are crap because they keep repeating. Would have preferred it if only the main side quests and character side quests were in the game and that's it. Don't like those Anigimata Ostraka riddles and wish they weren't in the game. Surprised that the Sea Shanties are all in the game as opposed to being a collectible and instead of randomly generated contracts, they should have copied Black Flag. Also, no hidden treasures or maps is also a missed opportunity as I would have definitely copied a few things from Black Flag while removing those things that I don't like.
All the tombs appear to have the same exact setup which is definitely disappointing but at the same time, they're really just meant to give you a skill point as opposed to anything else. Going to same locations for the side quests is connected to the randomly generated side quests, contracts, etc. which is one of the reasons why I simply don't do them.
I have only been to the same location twice and that was my own fault as I cleared out "points of interest" earlier in the game and then had a side quest take place in the same fort. Now, I do all the story and side quests for the region first and then, I clear out all the remaining points of interest.
Story and character wise, im enjoying all three story aspects (im on chapter 5) and it's better than Origins thus far. Love the skill trees as you really build how you want to play. I see some people on youtube complaining about grinding which honestly, is bullcrap and doesn't exist because they're constantly going into fights with low warrior output damage and wonder why every fight takes forever. My hunter and warrior damage is around 3000-5000 but my stealth is over 20000 damage. So obviously, me playing as a hunter or warrior isn't going to be as effective as stealth.
ACG (Karak) also talks about this and he had no problems with leveling up whatsoever. Neither have I. I'm averaging a level an hour give or take and only reason why it's not higher is because I have that Treasure Map pack and want to get every single collectible and since im mostly on foot, this takes a lot of playing time. Add in that I do die a good amount of times due to playing on hard with aim assist, enemy detection arrow, ranged detection arrow, compass, tips and message, enemy proximity and damage numbers all off.
I can understand a lot of people not liking the game and setup but at the same time, as I have see on youtube and other forums, I think that it's also because the people that are playing simply don't know how to play the game successfully. If I was to just do melee with that low level of damage, I would probably still be on the prologue or something. You have to know how to build your skill set to how you want to play the game and make sure that your equipped weapons play into that. Otherwise, you're going to have one hell of a tough time.
