I had fun with it...don't regret playing. It was a bit simpler of a Fallout game, not as complex or as much to do. I guess if you expect something else then it'd totally disappoint.

It is a AA game that plays to Obsidian's strengths as a developer. I'm not done yet, but it's one of my favorite games ever already. Their core design philosophy is a perfect match for my playstyle.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Re: Outer Worlds (new Obsidian RPG)
I'm the same. I enjoyed the AA aspect, and the simplification vs. Fallout (which I love, but can be so complex). I would like to see some updates in a next game (weapons got a bit boring with the modding by the end, I didn't really have much need to switch things up), but the story was fun and I think they can crank through these a bit easier than something like Fallout.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Outer Worlds (new Obsidian RPG)
Overall, the game left me wanting more, which is a good thing. Hopefully Obsidian can use this as a proof of concept where they can get full AAA funding for a sequel, which would go twice as far since the groundwork has already been laid.Comment

Well, MS owns Obsidian now, and you'd think they'd want them to keep cranking out good games.Nintendo Switch Friend Code: SW-7009-7102-8818Comment

Re: Outer Worlds (new Obsidian RPG)
Good news. Microsoft has already begun elevating Obsidian to the AAA level (as they should be) and have a new RPG IP in development which could be revealed at E3 2020. They have two main teams and a small 15 or so dev team working on Grounded. Wouldn't be surprised if we get TOW 2 after their next RPG.Comment

Re: Outer Worlds (new Obsidian RPG)
I have finished this game approx. two weeks ago after month and a half of almost non-stop play, only occasionally interrupted by NHL21 and even - wait for it - Madden 21. I don't know how many hours went into it because I don't think the game tracks that statistic, but given that I mostly played 2-3 hour evening sessions plus occasional 6-8 hour weekend mini-marathon, my guess would be well above 60 hours (including both DLCs).
With that said, this game was an absolute blast. I guess it was my first true RPG experience. I played as a female character specialized in ranged combat and dialogue and charm skills (while being bad in melee combat and defensive skills). And the more I played, the more it showed. Taking on enemies with a sniper rifle was pure work of art, but sometimes avoiding a conflict altogether was equally satisfying.
I went through a ton of side quests, made an equal share of friends and enemies, and even made couple of morally debatable decisions which led to tragic results even though I tried to be the good guy (lady). And it is a credit to how immersive this game can be that those situations left me feeling sincerely uneasy.
One of the best parts of the game are your companions and the interactions you can have with them. I mostly ran with 5 (including SAM), the sixth companion slot was filled rather briefly (I let the person go after a mission or two because we just did not click). I wonder if there were more recruitable NPCs in the game other than the ones I found, but the ones I found were cool enough to not make me overly sorry that I haven't tried to recruit new ones as the story progressed.
Graphically, gameplay wise, story-wise, the game is awesome. I was impressed from start to finish. The only downgrade is music, which for a game this good was more than underwhelming - except for couple of instances when I ran into a particularly hard / important fight. Surprisingly, the way more expanded version of the main game's main theme also plays during final credits, and - wait for it - it's actually amazing. Talk about nostalgia, lol.
SpoilerWhat also totally threw me off was the final summary / overview which sums up what happened to the colony, the main protagonists and your companions after Tartaros. As everything in this game, it was extremely well though out, written and narrated. I totally did not expect anything like that and just totally enjoyed it from start to finish with jaw dropped and maybe even a tear or two in the corner of my eye. Awesome stuff.
Hopefully this does not come across as spoiler to guys who have this game in the backlog (looking at you, Armor), but if I had to name one reason to buy / play this game, it would be Parvati Holcomb. She is downright hilarious from start to finish but also has a serious, compassionate side. Her lines are always great fun and great joy, she was clear cut go-to companion on most of my missions, and it was not close. Parvati is the most amazing, unforgettable companion I have ever had in a video game this side of Ellie.

Fantastic write up and I did not open the spoiler tag (thank you). Ok you convinced me.
Outer Worlds will begin as my next Non Sports game play through. I can take a break from Dragons Dogma for a bit. I have been grinding that game for a good 30 plus hours already and can use a break!!

But I had that with Horizon Zero Dawn as well so I knew I would eventually get over it, and when that moment came, I was able to again enjoy the game as much as before, if not more - especially when it became clear I was near the end.
Given how I was thisclose to never even consider such kind of game, and what improbable string of improbable coincidences brought me to the game in the first place, for me, this was a diamond in the rough. It may not hold the same appeal to a more seasoned gamer but I felt like both fun and immersion factors were through the roof.
In fact, I loved the game so much that I would very probably buy a next gen Xbox (S might do) just to be able to play the sequel, even though I am pissed off beyond reason that it's gonna be a Xbox exclusive only.

I am half way through it and love it. Too bad it is an Xbox exclusive for part 2.
Oh well.
