    Re: Dreams (PS4)

Don't want to see this thread die off. Has anyone ever tried to make a skateboarding character yet? I know others have in the community, but I am just asking the OS'ers here. I thought about toying with the mechanics to try and get a decent skateboarding base down and then it would lead to endless possibilities since people can just create their environments and there would be no need to create some giant open world.

Unfortunately I'm just so damn busy to play. I wanted to see if I could do something like "play an hour a day," but I haven't been able to play since last Friday.

No skateboard models from me, sorry!

Same with me. Haven't played in awhile with the exception of NBA 2K, and maybe a couple of other games. Been mostly engaged with building models lately.......Lol.

          Re: Dreams (PS4)

I'm just playing around mostly sculpting right now. I've gotten an okay hang of sculpting so I've moved to trying to sculpt a puppet and I'm trying to get these things seamless and it's tough right now. Gonna have to sit and think of a new approach to getting it seamless because what I was trying to do worked alright visually, but not with any moving animations. May try just building the puppets a bit differently than the way MM has theirs by default.

Also, I'm assuming the answer is now, but could you potentially just make one straight object like a tube, then put connectors/joints/etc. inside of it and cause it to be bendy? Or would you have to basically splice the tube into many several parts and connect them that way and they'd only bend at those joints?

            Re: Dreams (PS4)

I've done some more animations, cleaned up the ones I have and dupped my puppet and added a couple of knockdown animations. Now I'm at the point where I need to plan more without playing - just thinking of logic and next steps. I'm also debating splitting off the project 4 ways and doing a similar game but with boxing, TKD and kickboxing/muay thai ... the stances are different and I think boxing would actually be easiest. It would be cool to combine all styles into one game and have the game be 'gym factions' where you try to be the best at each discipline....?

I'm worried if I just "keep going" with what i"m doing now I'll waste too much time doing things that won't make any difference later. For example, last night I made a MT knee animation with a head/neck grab included - problem is, it doesn't work the logic isn't there and the grabbing part is too complex at the moment - so I could dive into mastering 'grabbing' animations - but maybe in the end it won't even work right with dreams, so ...

I think the next 'thing' to conquer that I can get away with is camera and character orientation - I know I'm going to at the very least have 1 or multiple forms of a semi-arcade, semi-simulation striking game. So learning to make the camera 'lock on' and scale and follow right would be a big help. The only problem with that is it's just not as satisfying with the same sense of accomplishment as animation for me personally.

Not sure if it is possible, but something I might try my hand at is an amateur wrestling game. Might be a bit complex, but start simplistic and work up sounds like a strategy.

                  Re: Dreams (PS4)

I did a bit of a reset after realizing how hard it would be to transfer animations from my puppets to better ones I started over.

I'm going with a K-1 style kickboxing game to start and brach off that dream into sub-genres of boxing and TKD, and possibly a barbarian sword match like Conan as well lol

I've learned a lot and still have a lot to learn but I've mentally solved some issues I thought would be deal-breakers and will press on. As soon as I have my moveset recreated and 2 bodies in the ring I"ll show you guys another video where you'll see knockdowns and moves etc. I got to that point already and it looked pretty cool. I'll go into more detail on that later as I progress more. One thing i'll need is collaboration for people more on the art side as well as the 'meta' side so if anyone here is into that - that would be cool to know, otherwise Reddit has been awesome so far.

I already know I'm going to create a very narrow focused track n field game with 100m dash racing. That can wait for now though, one thing at a time.

Has anyone else here actually started creating anyting? even if it's art or remixes? It's cool how you can 'borrow' like my ring and stands are taken from others for example.

                    Re: Dreams (PS4)

I've just been messing around sculpting when I get the chance to play. I've only been focused on bodies right now as they've always been harder for me to make than other nonliving objects.

In response to your animation talk, I'd recommend creating a base puppet that you make animations on, then saving them. Then creating new characters that are built off of that puppet, but saved as different puppets. Whenever you update the basic puppet that is for animation only those new animation updates will be applied to all your sculpted puppets that use its animations.

Hopefully I explained that clear enough.

I was starting to create Oracle Park. I realize this would be a massive undertaking, and for myself scale means a heck of a lot, so the ruler items in place in this game are really not incredibly all that helpful.

I was thinking after creating that as a scene, I could let people use it to possibly implement some form of a baseball game, be it Home Run Derby or whatever.

I haven't touched the game in weeks. Last I left it, I was somewhere in Art's Dream. I have dedicated my attention to other games more at the moment during these historical times. I will say, once this game goes VR, things will certainly change.

This is an astounding piece of work and seems legit. Look at what someone has or can create in Dreams in a photorealistic environment.

That's my newest venture "Fighting Fist". I was much further along in a boxing and muaythai game, but I realized the fighters would never look right. I'm going to contact the guy who made these models and see if he'll do a boxer or muay thai fighter.

My idea is the make a game in the vein of SMB with characters that are a bit more on the playful side, but have a realistic moves-set and physics to go with it so that the fighting experience is semi-realistic.

Down the line I'd like to have it so you play with a stable of 3 or 4 fighters and alternates and go against other gyms over a 'season' . I want people to get used to losing but in a fun way that doesn't matter since it's part of hte sport. So if your gym goes 63-35, that's a great 'season'. I want to mix up 'events' and have the emphasis on fighting, and between fights have you just choose things to do, rather than actually do them as training in fighting games is always such a chore. I like the Jones in the fast lane/puch-club style ... anyway that's a long way out.

I'll be adding AI and finishing move-sets soon and I'll just release it as a 1v1 street fighter without any frills at first. If I can get Boxing MT art I'll consider that and starting a kickstarter over it to make it into a real game.

check it out - Fighting Fist is done - It's got a main menu lol, a training scene and the main game where the master fights back.

I hope I can find someone good at art since that's what's holding me back from doing the kickboxing game

Overall though this has come a long way and doing something a little more simplified allowed me to release it and I learned a lot along the way.

Punch and kick your master with your fighting fist. Let your angry fist become the new Master! Thanks to the dreamers and assets I used. Big thanks to LadylexUK NeonTheCoder most of all TapGiles for tutorials/help
