    Re: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Man I wish this game took place only in Norway and surrounding countries. I enjoy snow settings a lot in games. Felt the same with the Witcher 3 as well. I am enjoying this more than Odyssey even though I never finished it. Only because the enemies are easier to kill and you can actually assassinate people and them actually die instead of the dice roll in odyssey. Plus having everything in one land mass for the most part makes exploring better than sailing around a huge map.

I've been wrapping this one up (getting the mythological weapons, completing the territories, etc.) and it turns out there's a bugged world event in one of the territories that prevents players from getting 100% on all territories.

After a quick search, it seems like Ubisoft has known about the bug since January and they just...haven't fixed it.

Other than that, I've really enjoyed the game and it's gotten me much more interested in Vikings and Norse mythology. Enough to where I plan on watching the shows The Last Kingdom and Vikings.

Have they added one handed swords yet?

I heard they were going to.

Supposedly with the Paris DLC, but I will believe it when I actually see it.

            Re: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

Finished the story arcs in the base game. Great 8/10 but combat/gameplay/AI is a downgrade from Origins/Odyssey. Stealth is broken and non-existent, can't mark enemies, Eivor feels clunky as hell where as Bayek felt better and Kassandra was even more fluid and responsive. At least to me anyway. Visuals, world and the main story arcs/characters carried the game for me. Outside of the story arcs, all I did were the Raids and Viewpoints.

Also finished the Wrath of the Druids expansion. Good 7/10 but seems like the end was rushed. Would have preferred a better build up to what happens. Same issues as the base game for me.

I was expecting Valhalla to be my 2020 GOTY pre-release since I was more hyped for it than Origins/Odyssey but it's just not as excellent as those two games were for me. Since they're planning more expansions in 2022, im disappointed as I would have preferred a new AC game in 2022 instead.

The rumored smaller Ubisoft Sofia game appears to be a future expansion for Valhalla instead according to what YouTuber JorRaptor has heard. I know the live service game in probably 2024 but man, I was hoping for a new excellent AC game like Origins/Odyssey. Oh well.

On a related side note - there will be a new update next week that adds in level gating to increase the game's difficulty but im not sure if it's replacing the power level. I don't think it is but not 100% sure. Also, the next expansion The Siege of Paris is rumored to release August 5th as it was seen on the Xbox store.

              Re: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

This game lost me when I couldnt assassinate Order members (or whatever they are called) in the open world and they wanted to make each of them a full blown boss fight.

Someone needs to tell ubisoft they dont have to slap the Assassins Creed logo on every game idea they come up with. There is zero reason for this title to be a part of the AC line. Nothing about it felt like AC.

Also, this time period england was very bland. The map was extremely muddy and uninteresting. Didnt help that Ghost of Tsushima's art direction was in the polar opposite direction. Stunnning visuals versus....mud.

6/10, combat was really bad too.

                  Re: Assassin’s Creed Valhalla

I grabbed this for 30$ during the PS Store sale. Horizons is delayed so I figured why not grab another open world game. Man, this game is just boring so far. AC Orgins is my favorite AC title to date. Odyssey was fun, too. Valhalla is just bleh so far. I just made it to England and I'm running around looking for some kings wife to find him and it's not great. Hopefully something in the narrative grabs me soon otherwise I doubt I even finish this thing.

This Paris DLC is very good. Paris looked like a dumpster fire back in the day apparently. Having fun with the 1 handed swords. The cavalry unit is very dangerous.

Paris DLC beaten, I like it better then the Ireland DLC. This one is more straight forward and has less fluff in it. One handed swords are fun to use, I had one in each hand. Calvary units are very dangerous when you come across them. To my surprise this DLC is mostly accurate to real life historical facts. Their are side missions you can do in the DLC, which are relatively easy since you are either killing people or retrieving something. Just which they had some impact on the story. Overall I give it a 9 out 10 due to it's straight forward nature with very little fluff.

I really struggled to get into this. The whole RPG stuff made the immersion so bad. Add the scary amount of filler in-game and it just felt like a waste of time.

Haven't really enjoyed AC since Origins, others after didn't seem to get my attention from little I played them to videos I've watched. Heard good and bad with this one and thought about trying it.

It's 25$ right now for the base game in Amazon, worth a try for that price?

Curious for some modern impressions too at this price. I’m wondering for example if this game stands up as a Viking simulator or something. Don’t really care if it’s a good “asscreed” game or not, wondering if the combat is good and if the game is playable without the hud, basically if the game is good *by accident* maybe? Know what I mean?

I’m mostly hesitant because I already have Demon’s Souls and Ghost of Tshishma installed, I feel this game may be redundant. Played Origins (maybe 10 hours, meh); didn’t play Odyssey.

Any thoughts appreciated. New to PS5.

I don’t actually care about any of this.
