5. Ratchet & Clank
Honorable Mentions: Red Dead Redemption 2, The Last of Us: Part 2, Rocket League, Dreams, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cup Head, Sea of Thieves

Some caveats are that I haven't played anything on the Switch (though one is in the house) and I don't like shooters.

Re: Top 5 games this gen?
I’m sure I’ll be forgetting some games in here, but off the top of my head, I think my top 3 would be:
1. Uncharted 4
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
3. Rocket League
It gets really tough after that. If GTA counts as this generation, it would be my #2 but the game technically came out on the last gen even though it wasn’t finished at the time.
I’d probably go with Super Mario Odyssey 4th. If we’re not including sports games, I guess my 5th would be a toss up between Overwatch, Siege, The Division, and Destiny. Siege was my most played but also maybe the most flawed.

Re: Top 5 games this gen?
My favorite game of the generation too. Makes me sad it took this long to get a mention.
I'll do something a bit different, recommend some indie games:
Undertale (especially this one, I think everyone should play this)
Stardew Valley
FTL
Into The Breach
Papers, Please
Shovel Knight
I'd also recommend any strategy game made by Paradox Interactive this generation.Comment

Re: Top 5 games this gen?
In no particular order:
1. Uncharted 4
2. Marvel's Spider-Man
3. Assassin's Creed Origins
4. VR as a platform in general
5. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
I put VR as a platform instead of any particular games, because a lot of them have just been experiences or tech demos, but good games are finally starting to come out, like The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners and Half Life Alyx. Medal of Honor Above and Beyond is right around the corner, which I'm pumped for.
Outside of VR, this generation has been disappointing as a whole for me. Maybe it's because I'm getting older, but games just haven't had an impact on me like the 360/Ps3/Wii generation did. I keep finding myself going back to the Ps2, Ps3 and Xbox 360. VR as a whole has been able to keep my interest because it reminds me a lot of the early 3D days back with the Ps1 and N64. The possibilities of the platform are still untapped. I'm probably going to stick to PC for the incoming generation.Comment

Re: Top 5 games this gen?
My Top 5
1. Life is Strange
This is easily in my Top 5 "all time" games, sharing the same neighborhood as all-time greats like the Mass Effect trilogy, KOTOR, and so on. If you haven't ever played this game, I highly recommend doing so as spoiler-free as possible. My only regret about this game is that I will never be able to play it for the first time again.
2. Detroit: Become Human
I'm a total Quantic Dreams fanboy - no doubt about that. But this game did nearly everything perfectly. It's a beautiful game, incredible story, lots of meaningful choices, and solid mechanics (for a game of this genre). I'm about a year removed from my first full playthrough and am about to begin again.
3. MLB The Show 20
I'm always going to be a die-hard sports fan, but for a sports game to be in my overall Top 5 for a console gen is really unusual. But this game strikes a chord for me - it's got some magic to it that has sucked me in. I have to admit that use of a custom fictional roster has something to do with it, but there isn't another game out there that can handle a fictional roster quite as seamlessly as this game does. By time next year's game comes around, I may have completed close to three full seasons in a single franchise playing every game.
4. Tomb Raider: Rise of the Tomb Raider
I genuinely love this game. It built upon the things the first game did really well and added to it with more customization, and a little more open-world style elements, but while keeping to a cohesive storyline. I love the Lara Croft in this series, and the one in this game is my favorite - moving past that aire of vulnerability from the first game to a more confident person without quite catching that "I'm a total bad-a**" vibe.
5. Final Fantasy VII Remake
A little 'recency bias' here to match a little of that 'nostalgia' impact. But to remake a game as beloved as the original and not flub it is in of itself impressive. There are enough surprises for fans of the original while allowing for those memorable moments to still occur. Add to that the usual high quality production value of Square Enix' games (it has yet to receive a patch), is also quite amazing. Some challenging gameplay mechanics does knock it down a slight notch; but not enough to change it's standing on my list.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: Top 5 games this gen?
Didn't want to put the games in any particular order, as I have enjoyment in all of them. Majority are those I've completed, which normally takes me alot of time to complete a game:
Top 5
Spiderman...was the surprise game of this Gen, didnt expect a Spiderman game like it to happen. Absolutely worth finishing the story and DLC.
MLB the Show 20....best sports game of the gen and in my top 5, play it almost everyday
The Last of Us 2...wasn't spoiled by any leaks. Had a fresh mind going in. Its the 1 game this gen that when I finished it I honestly truly put the controller down, watched the credits and was just in awe of the amazing game I just finished.
Days Gone...most underrated game of this gen. I play it every few days, but when I do play it, I put in a few good hours. Like the story, gameplay, n its a different take on a zombie world.
God of War...was worth the wait and loved the new style of gameplay.
Honorable mentions:
Mad Max(If not for Days Gone this would be my most underrated game of the gen)
Horizon Zero Dawn
Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order
FF7 Remake
Expecting maybe Ghost of Tsushima to move in to top 5.
