I thought about pulling out a Dave Chapelle - Dylan and going The Witcher 3 for 1 through 5.

Top 5 games this gen?

I have given this a ton of thought. Which games did I truly just love. Some games (I am talking to you Spiderman, Life is Strange, and I am still working on The Witcher III if you can believe it) I still have not played yet. So I look forward to them before year end and this list can change.

1. MLB The Show 20 - simply put, it is without a doubt my all time favorite sports game of all time. I can’t stop playing.

2. Red Dead Redemption II - I literally lived in this world for 3 straight solid months. Going on hunting trips in this universe was simply amazing. I was truly living in the Wild Wild West and living out my Clint Eastwood flicks dreams. I enjoyed it even more than the original on PS3. I will go back and give this a second play-through one day.

3. Horizon Zero Dawn - a gorgeous game. The hero was well developed, I loved the combat and the DLC was top notch too. A really awesome story.

4. Shadows of Mordor - I had so much fun playing this game. I am a Lord of the Rings junkie. The nemesis system was so good. The best hack and slash game I have ever played. Killing Orcs was never so satisfying!!

5. Detroit Become Human/Until Dawn - these two games were amazing. Both had fantastic pacing, great stories, I loved both of them and will play them again no doubt. Superb interactive “multiple choice” games.

6. Days Gone - Easily the best Zombie game I have ever played. Great story, awesome open world fun. It was an obsession for 65-70 glorious hours. I can’t wait for a potential sequel on the PS5!

Honorable Mentions:

Alien Isolation - the best “Alien” game ever made. It truly captured Ridley Scotts original masterpiece. A sci fi horror tour de force this game was. And the difficulty was unforgiving. I played on “easy” and was challenged. A great game of you love the movies (especially the original).

Not really in order other than the first one.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Without a doubt the number 1 on this list. In the midst of my second playthrough and still see things I didn't see in 80 hours on my first playthrough.

MLB 19 the Show: Definitely my favorite sports games of this generation.

Final Fantasy 9 remaster: Not really a current gen game but the remaster technically is so it's on the list as my favorite remaster.

The Witcher 3: Definitely in my top 5 and I haven't even beaten it yet. I haven't even gotten to the expansion packs yet or even gone to Skellige yet. It is definitely my favorite game I haven't beaten yet.

Stardew Valley: Though technically a game I play on PC, it holds the top spot for PC games and number 1 on my steam hours played. On the list because it was released this generation and has a PS4 version.

NBA 2k17: My all time favorite dynasty was on here with the Nets.

I don't know about top 5,it is a pity that now I don't have enough time to play something new, but maybe I'm a little old school but sims is the best one

I spent a lot of time thinking about this one more then I should. For my own pet peeve I was glad to see people only list 5 games and not a lot more. I had a few things I would like to point out and that I don't count TLOU 1 since to me its a ps3 game. I just listed my favorite sports game separately.

1. RDR 2 - I'm a big fan of westerns even more then I was when I played the initial game. I loved the story and the world and its a all time game for me. I don't think I've played a non sports 100+ hours before. Its a unique game and we may never get a AAA western game again.

2. Spiderman - I was torn on which to put 2nd and I may flip them before its all said and done. In the end I picked this one because its something new. It made me a fan of Spiderman and go back and watch most of the Marvel movies. It was everything you want from a video game from story, gameplay, length etc. I'm anxious to play through it a 2nd time.

3. Uncharted 4 - I just love this series and its perfect for my style of play. I loved the pacing in this game and it was a great send off.

4. Watch Dogs 2- I only recently played this and it surprisingly makes my list. Its just simply fun to play and that's what video games are suppose to be. The story is good enough and the silly tone was perfect. When a open world game gets me to do all the side stuff that's a good sign.

5. Detroit Become Human - I love these style of games and this is the gold standard for me now. Before this every game said choices matter and this may have been the 1st one i played where they actually do. Its another game where it didn't overstay its welcome on length. I liked how I didn't have to panic and hit the wrong button and end up killing someone like in Man of Medan.

NBA 2K - I wasn't sure if I should include this with the other since its a sports game. I also didn't know how to pick out one specific game since they all blend together. So I just decided to make its own category and list the series.

on a serious note, my top 5 list this gen probably looks something like:

1. The Last of Us Part 2
2. Red Dead Redemption 2
3. Mortal Kombat 11
4. Halo: Master Chief Collection
5. Modern Warfare

Still need to play through DOOM Eternal and finish up Death Stranding, though. They'd probably bump out Halo MCC and MW for 4 and 5 once I finally get around to finishing them. Never got around to getting Horizon or God of War, probably should

TLOU part 2 was a fantastic game. Arguably better than the first one. The set pieces/ chapters/environments were simply amazing and the story was strong, very very strong, violent, brutal and dark.

Highly recommended.

1. The Witcher 3
2. Horizon Zero Dawn
3. Persona 5
4. Spider-Man

5. Control, Yakuza 0, Ghost of Tsushima, MLB the Show 20 really any one of those depending on the day. So that's more of a 5th/honorable mention spot.
