I know this is an old thread, but I was thinking of picking it up and had some questions. Does the game remain true to what actually happened in real life meaning if I play as the Julii, I would get Caesar and Octavian as potential children and heirs. Do they include any of the conflicts between the trimuverites(sp?)? Also at about what point does the game start and what point does it end?

The trumivirates also go through conflict during the game. I forget exactly how long the period of time of the game is, but it's deep.Originally Posted by Briman123

Re: Rome Total War....like computer "crack"
I just got a new graphics card for MTW:2. The 1.2 version patch should be coming out any day...and with some of the mods out there already this game in outstanding. Lands To Conquer off the Total War Center website is my favorite mod by far. The depth and replay it gives you is amazing. I've put more hours into MTW, RTW and MTW2 that probably all other games combined for all my systems.
In my mind it's always...one more turn...just one more turn...- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

Re: Rome Total War....like computer "crack"
I hate to bump old threads, but I just got this game real cheap.
It's fantastic, and is one of the reasons I haven't touched my 360 for a week or so. I love the strategy involved
along with the fighting. I'm early in the game as the Julii, so I'm going after the Gauls. I got Spain on my side and now they declared war on the Gauls, who now have a two front war. They offer me a cease fire, and I demand a province. Then I break the cease fire anyways. I also sent a spy with the plague into a city of theirs.
This is great.
And this game is from 2005..I've really neglected the PC side of gaming.Last edited by bkfount; 04-10-2007, 10:17 AM.Comment

Yes for RTW this makes the game so much more immense. I wouldn't play Rome again without the Realism Mod. Just as I wouldn't play MTW2 without the Lands to Conquer mod.- The true measure of a man is how he treats someone who can do him absolutely no good.Comment

Re: Rome Total War....like computer "crack"
I should have never started playing this game. It consumes my time.
How stupid are the spanish and the gauls in this game? I have mst of eastern europe now, with the spanish spilling out of their hole to attack my settlements with tiny armies. Gaul only has their capital left, and now the Britons are jumping on me too.
These groups are like gnats against my army. What's the point in sending tiny waves of people to die pointlessly? It's not like they gain anything from doing it, it just makes me bulk up those fronts more than I would otherwise...Comment

Man what difficulty are you on? I go on the hardest and the Gauls are quite simply a massive pain in the *** as Julii. They will always outnumber you and if they have anybody survive the thousands of battles you will fight, you end up facing veteran troops. The Britons (as Julii) should never be trusted. I know in this game that it's dumb to believe the alliances will actually last (the point of the game is to beat everybody else), but the Britons always attack despite an alliance at first right when it seems like my campaign against Gaul is looking up.
I always thought the Brutii (well for Roman factions) was the way to go. It's harder but going into Greece and such, I actually feel like I'm facing an army and not just a rabble. Also city battles can be quite fun, and the northern barbarians do not build stone walls so that isnt as fun.Comment

I did take advantage of diplomats by offering cease fires to the gauls in return for them giving me a territory. I then break it later to keep them from building up much.
I don't know what I did to piss off spain or briton, as we were allies and had opened trade rights. They've both backed the gauls...go figure. A fight against three factions is hard as hell.Comment
