    Re: Elden Ring

Based on my "progress" so far, I might never be able to finish this game, but man it's so damn addictive...

16 hours in, Level 29, and still only running around Limgrave. One mini boss down (Beastman of [something] Azula, or whatever), couple of giants slain, even one with the sword near the Third Church of Marika, but not much else to show for it.

I am probably a little overleveled, but the damn Tree Sentinel is still a no-no, similar to the giant bears in Mistwood, not to mention Flying Dragon Agheel (I didn't even think about taking on that one), so I can't possibly dream of going after somebody like Margit yet.

I went with half-mage, half-dex build, hoping to strike a balance between ranged magic attacks and quick melee fights, but so far I feel like a jack of all trades but master of none.

But it's worth every invested second of my time, every penny spent, even if I never get any far. The addiction level is simply off the charts. It might never become the best game I have played in my lifetime, but I also never felt this invested before.

This game is so good. And so massive, it's ridiculous. This might be a bit of a slow-burner for me just so I can appreciate the scale of it and try and absorb as much as I can on my first playthrough, RDR2 style

I believe I'm near the end of the game and I am absolutely hard stuck on two bosses.
          Spoiler
The first one I can see being doable with a my strength build with a colossal weapon. But the second boss? No way I can even get a swing in with her long combos and ridiculous gimmick.

              Re: Elden Ring

I finally took down Margit, the Fell Omen when I was at level 38. I started trying when I was around level 30 which was a big mistake but I read that some people were killing him at around level 25/26. Since I’ve killed him I’ve read other suggestions that people should wait until level 40. Really depends on your weapons and build. Must have tried like 50 times to kill him before I was successful.

On the other had, I had no problem killing Flying Dragon Agheel. Did it on my first try.

Can’t handle Godrick the Grafted yet. Decided to level up before I try another run at him. The fact that you can bypass some of these bosses and go to a new map was a brilliant design decision.

I find it very difficult as an Astrologer to find new spells and weapons. There seems to be tons of cool swords for tanks but not a whole lot of cool spells and weapons. Some of the spells are useless. (I’m looking at you Glinstone Stars). I finally had to break down and consult YouTube for advice as to where to go to get new spells and weapons. I hate doing that as I like to find things in open world games simply by exploring. That’s part of the fun of exploring – finding some new item that feels unique, useful and powerful . I almost feel like it’s cheating to go consult YouTube but this game makes it very hard to find out information.

I’ve put notes on the maps to signal what bosses I’ve killed, where there are vendors, where there are cave entrances, etc. but I’m going to have to start keeping notes on a laptop because I think you can only have a maximum of 100 things noted on the map. That’s not nearly enough

The world is definitely enthralling. I’ve got issues with the story telling but it’s one of the all-time great open world games

I know a guy who beat Margit close to Lvl 19 with +1 Greatsword or something, first try. It was a great fight.

Me, I mustered the courage to go after him only at Lvl 48 with +4 Twinblade and +4 Astrologer Staff, and killed him on my 8th or 9th run. Talk about overleveled, LOL.

Now Stormveil is finally open for exploring.

I have generally been very productive the last two days, having beaten 3 CPU invades (of which I am especially proud, they are tough), namely
                Spoiler
and couple of dungeon mini bosses on Monday, and Margit, the damn Tree Sentinel (on maybe 10th try yeasterday alone) and a Deathbringer yeasterday.

I also have a new no-no, the Night's Cavalry, and might try Flying Dragon Agheel today.

                57 hours in.

Still a great game, still incredibly addictive.

To get around that map marker limitation, do it the other way around. I put markers on the map of bosses I have found but NOT killed. Still allows me to mark vendors as well. Also, you don't really have to mark cave entrances as I believe most of not all caves/dungeons have a site of grace at the very start of them

New patch with lots of balance changes to certain skills and spells. Also surprised they added additional questlines for some NPCs

An update has been released to improve the stability of gameplay in ELDEN RING, and to adjust balance.

The endgame bosses are no joke. I’m currently sitting at a stalemate with three separate bosses and cannot beat any of them.

I’m going to have to really hunker down this weekend and beat them.
