Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
On Chapter 7 out of 13 chapters and enjoying the hell out of this game. I chose to be a human grey warden warrior for my 1st playthrough. Some chapters are longer than others, I think or 1 or 2 chapters is literally just 1 quest. Overall I believe there are 35 main storyline quests. Then you have dozens of side quests, Enjoying the fact that they have fast travel in the game.
Combat is my favorite thing in the game. It is just beautiful. Love doing your ultimate move and your execution move remind me of the execution move of Space Marines 2. Just so many moves you and your party can unlock and the best thing is, move respec is FREE.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Oh man the party banter is AWESOME. Some people get along, some annoy each other, it is priceless. Upgraded my weapons and armor, along with the party members. Like the fact you can upgrade each shop you come across too. According to the game, I am just shy of 14 hours in. Also love the fact you get to see people from the last game in this game during certain quests is just awesome. I was like no way.........Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
I did quite a bit of side quests today. You learn so much lore. Some of the history I learned threw me for a loop like what ??Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
I've played about 12 hours so far. I'm really enjoying this game.
The early portions of the game lock you into a linear sequence of events so you start feeling like there's not much exploration but once you get past that and get to free roam more, the game opens up a lot. I like that it's not filled with a bunch of fetch quests and most of the side stuff I have done so far is tied to the lore of the game or the cities themselves. The sheer size of Inquisition and the nature of some of the early quests really made me dislike the game. I don't have enough free time for busy work in a game.. let me play the game.
In a lot of these games I go with a Mage but this time I decided to be a Rogue Assasin with the Antivan Crows. The combat is really really fun and the unlockable skills are so far all great. This game has some good QOL improvements to how it auto saves. I accidentally picked the wrong character for a mission and was able to load up a save at the decision point to fix it.
I've found some of the gender identity stuff to be oddly placed or revisited. I think that stuff is fine in the initial character creation as it could tie to your story or character but some of the dialogue I've seen is a lil goofy. People pretending like it's ruined the game for them are being children though and likely never intended to play the game because it's a very very very small percentage of the game.. basically insignificant and non-existent. The overall game is a blast to play though and it looks good even on Performance Mode on my PS5. I like the character and art design of the game.
It's the first new game I've bought outside of EA CFB in years.. and well worth it so far.Last edited by AUChase; 11-04-2024, 12:24 PM.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
This is my game of the year. Hell the best RPG I have played in a long time. I do like the more streamline linear approach. However, you can explore the world on your own if YOU want to. The free respec is awesome. If your build isn't going the way you thought it would, you can instantly change it. Also love at every fast travel beacon, you can swap out party members.
The big boss fights are insane and are no joke. People are tried to review bomb this game are just crazy and most likely never even played the game or any game in the series and just repeating what their favorite Youtuber said about the game. One thing this game does very good is give you a hell of a lot lore about the universe of the game and how everything is interconnected.Comment

I had my first encounter with a dragon last night. I really had to rethink my strategy. This is where those QOL saves come in handy. I was able to easily re-load my party decision and take Darvin instead because of the fire damage.
I also had to check out my inventory and swapped to my bow that deals fire damage. There's just enough strategy in this game to be fun but not overwhelming so far. That dragon was beating my *** for a bit. It took several tries getting the movements and dodge timing down.
The enemies in this game are really in your face. I bet playing as a Mage can be a challenge.Comment

Even more awesome is in the settings you can scale how aggressive enemies will be, how much hit points they will have, etc. Very scalable game.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
I've enjoyed it so far, gaming ADHD has me ping pong around my library, but have played long enough to unlock my first additional companion beyond the initial 3 (went with the demon guy).
Runs very well on Steam Deck also.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
So currently building my allies up before I embark on the final journey of no return. I was warned that if you don't build your allies up, they can get killed on this final journey of no return. I don't mind it though because you get to learn a lot about your party members and their factions that they belong to.
I have killed several dragons now. I have learned to have somebody with cold, nerotic and fire damage in your party. From what I came across, the dragon either going to be fire, cold, or electricity offense based. My warrior that I am playing as can do fire, electric and nerotic damage. I usually bring Neve in for a cold damage. I really have to force myself to use different party members at times, I do have my favorites that I like to roll with. However I have learned that having a balanced party is better. Who you decide to be however greatly changes things though.
In the game, you will have 2 warriors, a rogue, 2 mages and I don't know what to classify the other 2 females that are left. I rarely bring them because to me, they seem kind of weak in combat. I guess you can call them ranged fighters, because one has a bow and the other has a crossbow. Neither of the mages are dominating powerful either, which is kind of a bummer, which one was like an AOE, crowd control type of mage or some super bad *** bring the thunder kind of mage. Guess I will just have to be a mage myself my next playthrough to have one I guess.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Something I think I messed up on related to the first big this or that decision and the first Dragon Encounter:
SpoilerI got to that first Dragon encounter and had to make the decision on which City to help. I elected to go to Treviso despite having less of a bond with them because I chose to be an Antivan Crow. I feel like that's what my character would have done. Well after the fact, I got curious and did some reading. It appears you auto fail some side quests in the opposite city if you haven't completed them. I really had not done enough free roaming at that point and probably missed some cool Shadow Dagon quests. There's free roaming in the game but with the way the Crossroads is introduced it doesn't feel very apparent unless you go out of your way to dig around. Now that I understand that it makes a lot more sense and I'm doing more side quests. Right now I'm helping the Crows in Treviso but I really wish I had explored Manus a lot more before that if it means I failed some.Comment

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard
Well, yes to your spoiler. However there isn't a shortage of side quests. Best and fastest way to find side quests is to go to local map view. Side quests opportunities show up as gold exclamation points.Comment

Looking forward to meeting my future party members as we need a warrior no doubt. I typically always run a balanced party. I fully intend to do a full fleshed out 1st playthrough doing all side quests and backstories for party members. That's where Bioware shines. In the story telling and party relationships.
Baldurs Gate 3 and DA4 are exactly why I love RPG's. Both are totally different. But both have deep storytelling and character development. Now Playing on PS5:
