No it won't not even close. Do you understand why Dreamcast failed? It wasn't because it came out earlier, it wasn't because of PS2 hype. It failed because they lacked big name 3rd parties like EA, Sega made stupid design choices, they were coming off 3 failed consoles, and the fact Sega was having money problems.

MS has tons of cash, they're coming off great Xbox success, and they have pretty much every big 3rd party out there developing for it. It's not going to just fade away when PS3 comes out, if you think that your crazy. PS3 will sell strong, but it's not going to push the Xbox 360 aside, far from it. MS will give Sony a run, they won't beat them, but they'll get closer than they did this gen.

exactly, I agree with you on your analysis, and thanks for pointing that out about the dreamcast. Sony's in for a pretty good fight, I think they'll still be on top, but not by as much.

Yes. Original lenses were pretty much crap all the way.
They don't offer 4 player support unless you buy an adapter.
Not saying XBOX doesn't have some faults. Just saying Sony isn't perfect at all.

Anyways, I'll own them all just like I always do. I play the games I like regardless of what it plays on. I don't get a check from any console developer.

It probably would for me. I mean, the hardware and 3rd party game support play a huge factor as well (look at the DS), but if it's backwards compatible, that means I can sell the old system. Think of it as a rebate for loyal customers. Would you keep your PS2 if the PS3 did all the same things? Did you keep your PS1 after the PS2 came out?

Like I said, if the PS3 is backwards compatible, but the Xbox360 isn't, then I'll keep my Xbox and sell my PS2. If it's the other way around, I'll get the Xbox360, sell my Xbox, and keep my PS2.

i still to this day have ALL of my old sytems. Intellivision, Colico, Atari, Nintendo, Sega, PS1, Dreamcast, Ps2, and now my Xbox. Ther are a few I didn't buy. I didn't buy a SNES or Sega CD (might be a few others I am forgetting). Think of it like a basebal card collection. Gaming is my #1 hobby so I choose to treasure the past I guess you could say. I didn't mean to sound like an *** earlier, but I know ALOT of gamers that keep all of their systems. I don't keep ALL of my games but I wish that I would have. So me of this stuff is fun to go back and play (if you can get it to work lol )

I don't see the PS3 being in America until late next year. No way I can wait 8-12 months when xbox 360 is already out. I'm just buying both.

I think for some of the reasons mentioned earlier, Xbox is here to stay. No other system has threated Sony's since it came out a decade ago. I think Micro will continue to put out quality systems to rival Sony for a loooong time to come.

Having said that, I went with the Xbox instead of a PS2 back in the summer of 2002 and having only one system, I kinda wish I had went the PS2 route.

My top personal reasons?

1. I spent that entire summer playing only a handful of games b/c only a handful had been released on Xbox...pretty weak lineup that summer.

2. Ev'one had a PS2 that I knew, so it was impossible to swap games with friends, borrow controllers, etc.

3. The whole "What disk drive do you have" phenomenon. All depending on what disk drive you have, games will freeze like crazy. This year, all the 2k games froze on me regularly except for the football game.

4. The selection thing is still a problem. I mainly play sports games and this year missed out b/c of PS2 exclusives.

5. Pay to play online. 5 bucks a month or 60 bucks a year, however you look at it, it sucks. There are hardly any new downloads on Xbox Live for the games I have/want.

I don't know which one I will get next...but I am leaning towards PS3.

I always say I'm going to hold off on buying a new console when it comes out. But then the hype gets to me and I end up buying it. Just the PSP, I was totally set on not buying it, but that did not last long.

I agree 100%, but you also have to consider the fact that Microsoft entered the console business with the Xbox, Sony already had almost a decade of experience on them.

So did Sega and Nintendo but Sony but them in a shell, don't lie to yourself, $600 dollars is the price that the PS3. Who can afford that other then men on these boards, it gonna lose and I was a major fan of Sony til my system broke down twice for no reason.

It will depend on the games that come out for the systems. I am leaning towards PS3 but I don't know. I bought all three of the current crop of systems. I don't think I will be buying more then one system at a time again. It is just too expensive to try and buy games for more then one system.

The two things that made me choose XBox over the PS2 was the Hard drive and XBox live. I have always believed that the memory card was the biggest rip off in video games. It feels like you have to buy one card per game (assuming you buy the 8MB card).
As for who will win the battle, it will come down to price and to a lesser degree online play. Both systems will have the Hard drive, so that won't be an issue.
I really can't see how you could go wrong either way. I will probably end up buying both, but the loyalty to Sony may win over this first round of next gen consoles. In the end MS will probably dominate the way the do with the PC market. Mr. Gates has an unlimited cash supply.
