No no, I enjoy grinds in MMOs if they are done properly.

Re: Guild Wars 2
So you don't mind grinding for something, you just want it to be for something more powerful right? I can understand that. They're going to be upgrading the legendary weapons to have the same stats increases as ascended items so they will be giving you more power than the exotic stuff.
Personally though, I don't really mind horizontal progression. Skin hunting is big for me and is a major factor in why I liked GW1 so much.
I saw a video the other day of a guy who played at release but didn't take to the game and has recently given it another shot and likes it a lot. This isn't for you necessarily ubernoob but to any of the other guys who started but didn't last long enough to even get a level 80, especially those who couldn't get over the "feel" of it as compared to WoW.
Edit: Anyone notice you can't embed videos in this sub-forum? I think that's why I asked for it to be deleted in the beginning. Who do I talk to about that?PS: You guys are great.

Re: Guild Wars 2
I haven't tried to embed in here hmm.
Like I said. I enjoyed the game, it is the most visually beautiful MMO on the market and was well done. Just not what I'm looking for in an MMO. It's one of those things where I can pick up and play once every month or two and still be viable for doing whatever. Just not enough to be my full-time MMO.badComment

Re: Guild Wars 2
Ubernoob and I were the ones that started out in GW2 and neither of us lasted long at all. Granted, I had some spare time around release date and played more than I should have, but it didnt hook me one I hit level cap at all.
I did get near 100% world exploration and all of the hearts outside of the pvp zone, so I saw 99% of the content and decided it wasnt for me.
The instances were total zerg fests with zero loot dropping and everyone just spamming skills left and right with no aggro or healing tools avail. The bosses dropped no loot, only near end game did the start dropping currency to buy skins.
Once you got to Orr, the only way to progress was to sit at a dynamic event somewhere and just spam your AE key repeatedly for weeks on end to get the karma you needed for legendary weapons. The instances were such a cluster, that very few did them, and the ones that did get run was pretty much only zone in ...kill 1 boss, reset ad nauseum for points.
For a full set of skin gear I think it came out to be around 200+ full runs of just 1 zone to get the points needed. No way in heck can a game interest me to the point of running 1 zone over 200+ times.
The pvp left a lot to be desired to me as well. Majority of the time you couldnt even see the enemy you were attacking and all you could do is spam an AE in some random direction and hop the enemy was standing there.
Had huge hopes for the game, but past the initial month, holds zero entertainment value for me.Comment

Re: Guild Wars 2
That's true because being a new game that drew in a lot of casual players, no one knew what they were doing couple with plain bad design, especially in early story mode dungeons. Since then, dungeons and loot and been tuned and people know their classes better. As for bosses not dropping loot until the end, that's not true. In the beginning each bosses dropped tokens, which is why a lot of people would do one boss and leave. Now, you don't get your full amount of tokens until the last boss is killed, although you can still get 3 tokens per boss (60 after last boss).
Holding aggro is a non issue since you have to the skills at your disposal to deal with it if you have it. There are no true tanks or healers in the game because they aren't really needed. Every class has a healing skill, can dodge and has either some kind of CC or escape type of skill to increase distance. There are also classes like guardians, elementalist and engineers who can excel at providing extra support to a group better than others.
Again, since then this has been largely rectified. Karma is probably the easiest currency to get. You get it from events, dungeons, dailies, monthlies, wvw etc. I've got about a million karma in consumable form sitting in my bank just from doing dailies and dungeons.Once you got to Orr, the only way to progress was to sit at a dynamic event somewhere and just spam your AE key repeatedly for weeks on end to get the karma you needed for legendary weapons. The instances were such a cluster, that very few did them, and the ones that did get run was pretty much only zone in ...kill 1 boss, reset ad nauseum for points.
Karma was never the hardest thing to get for legendaries anyway though. First you had to get your hands on a precursor. If you didn't have one, there was no need for urgency in getting karma to buy shards. Then if you were lucky enough to get the precursor you wanted, you needed the gold to buy all the other expensive materials like ecto and lodestones, etc. Getting that gold was much harder than getting the karma. The legendaries weren't designed to be got in a month in the first place. The people who got them first had many people in their guilds farming and donating materials for "world firsts". I've already talked about dungeons.
Again, this isn't an issue anymore. Each path of an explorable dungeon gives you 60 tokens for the first time you complete it each day, not including the tokens you get from bags that bosses drop throughout the instance. There are on average 3 paths per explorable. Not counting the tokens from boss bags, that's 180 tokens a day (potentially around 200 if you count what you get from bags). A full set costs around 1380 tokens. So if you ran three paths a day, it would take you a week. 21 runs, a far cry from 200+. Add in the tokens you will get from boss bags (3 each, plus gold and karma) it would be under a week. For a full set of skin gear I think it came out to be around 200+ full runs of just 1 zone to get the points needed. No way in heck can a game interest me to the point of running 1 zone over 200+ times.
Also note that the 60 token daily bonus is character bound, not account bound. So say there is a path that is a lot easier than the others and can b completed quickly. If you have alts you can run that path on each character for the daily bonus instead of running the other harder ones. Combine running the easy path with alts in addition to running the other two and you've got a full set in less than a week.
You're talking about WvW here because not being able to see your enemy (outside of stealthed enemies) has never been an issue in sPvP. It is in WvW because of the sheer amount of enemies that can be on screen at one time (players plus traditional mobs and npcs) Anet chose to use a culling system that limits the amount of objects displayed on your screen in an attempt to increase performance. They've done away with that and will be implementing a patch this month (March) to get rid of it completely. The pvp left a lot to be desired to me as well. Majority of the time you couldnt even see the enemy you were attacking and all you could do is spam an AE in some random direction and hop the enemy was standing there.
I'm not just blindly defending the game here, because I have my share of criticisms as well. But, I think it is a solid game that they are still building on and improving. It's a nice foundation with a lot of potential for growth. I give them credit too for continually patching the game and I have to say, it's gotten better with each patch IMO.
TL;DR: If you stopped playing a month in, there are a lot of things you might remember that have changed completely. Very few MMOs get it right at launch. It wouldn't hurt you to try it again anyway, or just play it off and on as the mood strikes you since you aren't paying a subscription.PS: You guys are great.

Re: Guild Wars 2
Did about two hours of WvW last night and levelled my Elementalist from 57 to 60. It really is the quickest way to level if you are rolling with a stacked zerg.
I'm going for 80 this week.Comment

Re: Guild Wars 2
I've had this game forever now it seems and have hardly played it. I think this week I am going to start trying to get into it.
Any suggestions from those that have played it a ton to someone who is new to the Guild Wars experience?NHL: Vegas Golden Knights
NCAAF: Ohio State
NFL: Minnesota Vikings
MLB: Chicago CubsComment
