Hey Auburn, is it necesarry to do the cardio in th morning. I really can't do it in the morning so I was wondering if it will be okay to do in the afternoon and still work.

I appreciate all the help you have given.

Tennis season is starting soon, so I'm going to be running a lot and doing a bunch of cardio. I think my diet will consist of a PowerBar for breakfast, water, a light lunch, PowerBar/Gatorade during tennis, and then a dinner (not sure what would be good here). I love chicken, would that be good to add in there for some protein?

I'll be running 5 days a week for tennis, and maybe 3 days of the week, I plan on doing some lifting, nothing major, just a few sets here and there.

I'm fairly skinny, I'm about 6'0'' and 145-150. If I stick to that diet and the workouts and stuff, would I put on some muscle? :y4:
Let's see....If you are looking to pack on some muscle Acid and you are 150 pounds...I'd get your protein uptake to around 1.5 grams per pound of bodyweight...so that would put you at around 225 grams a day. Say you eat every Breakfast/Snack/Lunch/Snack/Dinner...that would put you at 5 times a day..so divide that by 5 and that is what you would need to be at per meal. A Powerbar only has 10 grams of protein in it...so you need to supplement. Make sure to get at least 40-50 grams of protein per meal.

An easy way to do this..rather than cooking 800 chicken breasts a week...is to supplement each meal with a scoop or two of a high quality protein powder (optimum is a good inexpensive brand).

Bottom line Acid..if you are looking to GAIN muscle...you don't need to worry about dieting if you are going to be running and doing tons of cardio. You need MORE calories...but quality calories..not sodas, chips, and candy bars.

Any cardio is good cardio. I just suggest cardio in the morning for folks before breakfast because..since you have been fasting overnight...all of the calories you burn are coming directly from your fat stores. That is NOT to say you won't burn fat if you do cardio later in the day...it's just that you'll get "more for your money" so to speak in the morning.

Note...DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF thinking if you wait to eat until lunch etc. and do your cardio then it will have the same effect. After you have been up for a couple of hours...if you are not eating..your body will feed off your muscle mass for nutrition..that is NOT good.

Bottom line....Do your cardio when you can. Min. of 20 min with your heart rate somewhere between 120-140 beats per minute (optimum "fat burning" zone).

Re: best way to tone up?

Figure I'll throw out a question....

Well actually, take Acid's question about bulking up...but subtract the whole "tennis player" part. As I said earlier, I don't have acess to a gym(Lik Golds or the Y or even one at my HS) I do have some small hand-weights at my house, but what methods should I use if I'm looknig to add on more muscle?

I'm currently 6 feet, around 160-165 pounds, but really don't have much muscle, but that's not to say I'm fat because I'm not. I really don't know where all that weight is. Any homemade workouts or something that I could do or just cheap solutions to go along with a diet?

Well, I'm not looking to gain a ton of muscle, just a little bit.

I'll look into the Protein powder, I think I have a GNC (I think thats what it's called, it's a nutrition store) around here somewhere.

                  Thanks.

acid, GNC's charge a crapload on their products. buy your junk at bodybuilding.com. cheap and quick shipping. the send ups, so theres tracking.

Longhorn, pushups and pullups can go along way. along with diet, and just basic cardio or sprints and in a few months, youll see results imo.

If you go the GNC route, join their gold card club. Everything's alot cheaper for gold card members(my dad is one). You get like 20-30% off nearly the entire store.

husker, isnt that only the first week of the month? I was a member for a year.. pretty cheap for membership and you do save on your first big purchase. over a course of a year, you could save upwards of 150 bucks

                              Good stuff AA.

I joined a gym in the summer and went for a few months I saw the changes, but once you miss and then yu miss again, its hard to keep motivated.

I might hit you up on AIM one night and rack your brain for a bit.

                                Whey is good.

Personally, I avoid protein shakes and just go with natural food.

I was working out ever since I was 16. Back Then I was around 5'10 165. I was playing corner in HS. I wasn't going regularly. It was more like once or twice a week.

Last April I joined the YMCA and have been going 3-4 times a week. I'm currently 5'11 and 185 pounds. I did it mostly by eating, chicken, tuna and lean meats. But that's just me though.
