Re: Anyone tried Nitrix or NO Xplode?

    Guys I'm in a dilemma...

I work out from November to March and then June to September (cant lift duing baseball or soccer season for H.S). I started lifting November 2004 and from then I've probably gained around 30 pounds. This year I started to slow down which is natural following such a fast gain.... but this summer I'm stuck because I have to do a lot of intense cardio to get my stamina up for soccer season.... but I need to do that without losing muscle mass and/or strength. Along with this I'm trying to shed some excess fat (at last check 2 months ago.. i was at 16% bf, I'm probably at 14% now) so I've had to lower my calorie intake somewhat which is going to decrease my muscle mass.I take multivitamins daily and 2 scoops of whey after every workout (4 per week). Any suggestions on how I can keep up with the cardio and fat loss while retaining my strength and muscle mass which I've worked hard to build up?

Are you actually losing strength or just weight? Because fat can still build fat on your upper legs, arms, and chest, and thus by losing weight you appear to be losing muscle when you're really losing fat.

If you're losing strength, it could really be an illusion. You could be still getting stronger, but because of the added workout, your weight room performance is suffering. This is very common during football season because of how tired you get from practices and games. That could very well be the issue.

I dunno, I've never really gotten into any of the supplements. I've never trusted creatine, or touched any of the other synthetic stuff like that. I drink protein shakes (32g) or eat protein bars (32g)--- I just found a new bar that's AWESOME. It's Met-Rx Big 100 Super Cookie Crunch. It tastes GREAT, and packs a solid 32 grams of protein in. The thing is pretty huge, but it's not a task to eat it since it tastes so genuinely good. ANYwho, my brother has messed around with supplements for a while and they got him pretty big. He's a lot thicker than he used to be. I can't stress enough how important sleep and diet are. When I was away at school, my last term nearly killed me. I was sleeping at most 5 hours a night, and when I had time for a nap, I passed out for hours on end. I was eating usually no more than a meal a day, and with that day-to-day chaos, I tried to keep my gym routine. I'd been lifting with a friend of mine for a large part of the year, and I'd always been significantly stronger in my lifts, but then all of a sudden, he was catching up, and soon, he'd significantly surpassed me in every lift. It got so bad, I had trouble benching 165 ten times. I stopped going to the gym for the rest of the term, and when I got home for the summer, I expected to have to start all over again, virtually from scratch. To my surprise, after having caught up on my sleep, and from eating two or more meals a day, my lifts were almost all the way back up to where they once were. Now I'm working every day, which is exhausting, but I get at least three meals every day, and when I'm at the gym, I have more energy than I've ever had. At school, I'd lost about 20 lbs, basically all muscle, ans after coming back this summer and getting everything set right, I'm back at about 177. I'll probably look to put on more weight over the winter, maybe with weight gainers, but I'm a little hesitant since I've never messed with any of that stuff.

---What are your guys' weekly workout routines like?

Right now I try to get in five days a week, with chest mondays, back tuesdays, legs wednesdays, arms thursdays, and shoulders fridays, with five to six exercises per muscle group (I double up for arms, doing five exercises for triceps and five for biceps).

I'm curious, why did you lower your calories? Fat loss can be a tricky animal. For instance for me, my base caloric needs a day is 3312. A good deficit caloric intake for me is 2794 calories a day. Anything lower than that then that's when I begin to lose what I worked hard to gain. I wouldn't automatically lower calories for fat loss. I'd just monitor the type of calories I'm taking in. You are already creating a deficit from your activity level. As far as keeping strength and mass there is one motto for ya: Go Heavy or Go Home.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing, if you don't eat, the body starts to feed of the muscle before it does the fat! So keep up your intake!

Fat is generally burned before muscle.

A good general rule is that bulking will add twice as much muscle as fat. So if you gain 15 pounds, 10 of it is muscle, 5 of it is fat.
When cutting, you will lose twice as much fat as muscle. So if you lose 15 pounds, you lose 10 pounds of fat, 5 pounds of muscle.

So if you go through one cycle, you've essentially traded 5 pounds of fat for 5 pounds of muscle, maintaining the same weight when all is said and done.

OK, thanks I was told different! But I am talking about if you don't eat! The muscle will be first! But I could be wrong! That is what they taught us in class!

Re: Anyone tried Nitrix or NO Xplode?

Well, I ended up ordering the Orange Xplode... so hopefully it is pretty good. I figured that I'll keep the Nitrix, and sorta stack them and see what type of results I get. So far, I'm doing pretty good with just watching my eating habits, and taking in a lot more protein than normal.

I've managed to start the transformation with no supplements, but during some of my workouts I have been extremely sluggish, and wanted something "more" to help me focus and give me a little push. Hopefully this will work for me.

When you all speak of cutting... what is this? Sorry, never really been into lifting before, but I have really made an effort this year to cut the weight/fat and put on some muscle, and so far I'm doing really well with it... and it's a change that will last. I have never felt better. Just need a little guidance.

Fat is generally burned before muscle in people who are already really fat. But, for a person trying to move from 15% to about 10, if you do not eat enough the body is going to horde fat and eat away at muscle. Of course, we have in mind here an individual that is not severely overweight. Someone who is severly overweight yeah, they will burn more fat than muscle because that's primarily what they are composed of, FAT.

Also bulking and cutting is nothing more than eating. Bulking is eating more than your basic caloric needs and cutting is a deficit of caloric needs. This is the reason why I am curious as to why he cut calories. If he is already at a deficit then there is no need to continue to reduce. If he's already in good shape he won't burn fat by doing so and will suffer some loss in muscle gain.

Yeah that is what have been taught! It is never a good idea to cut your calories unless you wants to cut down your weight!

It's not only what I've read but I've experienced it for years. I kept wondering why my body would not burn fat. I go to the gym every damn day and run until I'm about to pass out. Sweat pouring all over the damn place and folks just looking like damn he's working hard as hell. Trying to get down to single digit body fat and alas nothing happens. Why? Because I was not eating close to what I should have been eating. You will burn fat up to a point, but if you are trying to move to 10% and below forget it gotta eat and eat clean.
