4-6 reps builds strength, 8-10 builds mass.
Some mass building tips:
- If you do standing barbell curls, choose a bar with a thick handle. This will help your forearms.
- Workout your triceps more than your biceps. Your tricep makes up 70% of your arm so it makes sense to build that up more compared to your bi's.
- Always, always peform each rep with proper form. You're only cheating yourself if you don't. Don't worry about how much weight you're using. That's for ego alone.
I read a great story about Arnold where he was in a gym doing incline dumbell curls using 60lb weights. A couple of guys close to him were doing the same thing and they were using 80 lb weights.
Eventually they came over to Arnold and said "I don't get it. We're doing 20 lbs more on each arm and yet we have 18" arms while you have 22" arms. What gives?".
Arnold laughed at them and said that they had terrible form, that's why. They might have been lifting 80 lbs weights but they were using their entire body, and suffering good form to lift it, that it was like they were only using 40 lb weights.
Another thing Arnold has said is, if you want to add an inch to your arms, you need to gain 10 lbs. So obviously diet is a huge part of how big your arms will get.
