Lol not the best start with the throwing up. <- laughing with you not at you.

I personally can't workout hard with anything other than water in my stomach. I mean you wake up and cram a bunch of milk and protein powder down your throat then go and mix it all around in your stomach doing strenous cardio, i can kinda see why you threw up. I'd just try to do it totally fasted if you can then have your shake / oats afterwards. Might make it easier to keep it down and once you get used to it i don't have any trouble with energy. Means you are directly burning fat stores as well.

You could try the oats which would be more solid but i hate having to workout on a full stomach. Let us know how it goes.

I did chest workout last night at 8pm (hit 3 PR's!!) then because of my work schedule i had to get up and workout at 4.45am this morning when i did a decent back workout. 2 weight sessions inside of 12 hours prob isn't the best way to do things but i have to make do at the moment. No excuses!!!

      Interesting article

      http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/11/08...sor/index.html

Bottom line: eat fewer cals than you burn and you lose weight. It's not rocket science.

Yeah, looking back at it, it probably wasn't the wisest idea.

I could try working out on an empty stomach, but i've read it has a negative effect on muscles. Not sure if it's true, but if possible, yeah, i'd like to try it completely fasted, then get a shake down afterwards.

Lol that is pretty interesting but yeah like you said at the end of the day its cals in vs cals out.

I like to think of the body as a machine capable of increasing or decreasing in size. You have certain amount of fuel the machine needs per day. Go over that and you get bigger (usually fat unless you are lifting heavy) go under and you will shrink (lose both fat and muscle).

I think I (like many others) have been guilty of overthinking it in the past and once I realized that there was no magic diet or pill or exercise that was going to make me lose fat and it was all about eating less and moving more I started to get results. Kinda dumb looking back at myself but so many people are in that mindset and make it needlessly complicated.

That effect is totally overblown imo. Your body takes many hours to breakdown protein etc so it's not going to be an issue as long as you aren't starving yourself for days at a time. Working out in the morning on a empty stomach won't make your muscles waste away to nothing, the human body is much smarter than that.

Besides this guy lifts at 4am every day and doesn't have his first meal until 11am, is a lifetime natural and has always worked out fasted and he looks like this:
          Spoiler

read that post about intermittent fasting a few posts up, goes through alot of those commonly health believes and cuts them down with science.

Maybe give it a try fasted and see how it goes. Makes life easier to be able to just get up and get to work imo. You may like or you may hate but you'll never know unless ya try.

Thanks Jonesy, i'll give it a shot tomorrow.

Can't thank you and ND enough for all the help you guys have given me. It's much appreciated, considering how little knowledge I had about dieting and exercise beforehand. I was kind of stuck in diet purgatory for the last few years, where I would try something, then read about another diet, so i'd give up the first, and just never stuck to anything. I feel like I have a clear path to losing weight now.

              The four steps to success

              #1 - Diet
              #2 - Seriously, don't overeat
#3 - Work out hard but don't kill yourself.

Pertaining to number 4, that will be hard come Christmas time, especially as much as my other side of the family likes beer

That's been the strangest part. I'm used to kicking back with a few brews on the weekend, but i'll need to cut that out as well.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

No way i'm not drinking beer on Christmas day. I'm just gonna work my butt off up to that day, have Christmas off and enjoy myself then get back into it with a vengeance boxing day. Personally i don't think you'll do any long term damage in a day and it may help you work harder leading up to it and after it. Gotta live your life man. With that being said drinking 6+ beers every 2nd night is only going to make you fat and sloppy so i'm not condoning that but a day off to recharge every now and then is a good thing imo.

I don't think you really have to give anything up totally. I mean a few beers is only 200-400 cals which is easily fit into your daily calories. Sure it's not ideal but i prefer the 90-10 rule. If 90% of the time i am eating healthy and exercising well the 10% of the time i want to enjoy myself by having a few drinks or going out to a nice dinner etc isn't going to derail my plans unless i totally fall off the wagon.

Gotta think of it as a whole lifestyle change and not some crash "diet". Diet's are things you stop, i want to be healthy and lean for life.

False man...didn't you read!? 2,000 cals from beer & nothing else...you're golden man!

Lol if it wasn't for the roast turkey etc I would probably be more than happy having 2k cals just from beer that day. I'm thinking maybe a 70/30 beer / turkey split. Gotta get my proTeinz in mang!

Haha. I'm fortunate where I could go beerless the rest of my life and not care.

My daily tip: if somebody asks you if you've had something before, just say yes. Today I said no and now he wants to take me to this "burger joint" on Friday. He's a little out of shape and I try helping him work out and he says stuff like this? His intentions are good but I just don't know if he can do it.

Re: For all you guys wanting to gain muscle, size, etc.

Man one of buddies is like that all the time. He's ALWAYS asking for advice etc and says he wants to work out with me but when it comes to actually doing anything about it it's always "oh yeah i'll start that next week". I don't really care and he's still one of my best buds but i'm like why do you keep asking me for help all the time if you don't actually want to do anything about it? He used to be a fit guy in High School through sport but every year he gets fatter and more out of shape and every year he tries these hardcore diets that last about a week then he falls off the wagon again. I have been there myself so i know it's not easy but i just keep telling him he's welcome to come workout with me whenever he wants but up until now he's never taken me up on it.

A good quote i saw today:

People tend to OVERESTIMATE the pleasure they're going to get from eating, yet UNDERESTIMATE the pleasure they'd get from working out.

I don't know too many people who feel terrible after completing a great workout, yet they're very reluctant to just lace up the shoes and get going. Conversely, it's rare to see people feast and then feel better afterward. If the meal does provide joy, it generally seems short-lived.
