I thought I was "robbing the cradle" dating a girl 4 years younger than me!

I can't picture dating someone 18 as my girlfriends little sister is 18, but to each their own. I do think that the age factor has to come out and the sooner the better. I also agree that she will be horribly upset if Graphik doesn't go to the prom. Those things are a HS girl's dream. I'd hate to go to, but if you love her, gotta suck it up and go.

It's just one day, it'll be a HUGE sigh of relief once it's over............

And if the "other" folks don't take too kindly to you taking her to prom, as long as the issue is brought up now, she can make alternate plans if need be and there won't be so much shell shock when it gets too close to the big day.

Wow, and I thouht it was weird that I went to prom when I was 21 (with an 18 yr old)...a lot of my friends don't even know that, because it was just wierd (at least I felt like it was)...even though I saw a guy I graduated high school with there too...so that made it a little better...and he was there with a Junior...so well...

The main problem I have with this is, she is still in HS. If she had graduated HS already, then fine I guess.

To me though, 18 is legal age, not 17. I guess because most 17 year olds are still in HS.

I don't know, if you all had just got together, 1-3 months in a relationship, then I can see how you wouldn't feel as obligated... but if you all have been together for a good while, mature or not, she's going to be hurt if you don't go. You're obviously young enough (look-wise) to pass for 20 or so, so I don't think you'll feel too out of place.

I'll agree with this, shes going to probably be hurt if you dont go (even if she acts like shes completely cool with it). You also pointed out a while back you look younger, and her family obviously believes it so I don't see why a bunch of people at a prom wouldn't believe it or why they'd think you're 27 when you look 20 (unless shes told them how old you are), but even then like another person pointed out its only one night so if you really care about her the jokes and that aren't that big of a deal.

Personally I think the age gap is a bit big, especially as shes still in high school, but you've already covered that about 20,000 times in this thread so I'm not going to make you do it again. Sounds like you really like her, so if you do going to the prom shouldn't be a big deal at all, sure you'll feel out of place, and yes your friends and family will probably make a lot of jokes about it just to give you a hard time, but oh well just have to do it for her.

Now when the age thing comes up with the family eventually that could be a big deal, but thats a whole other issue, and who knows they may be completely cool with it after a little time to let it set it but its probably better to get that out there sooner rather than a lot later.

If prom is THAT big of a deal to her, then she isn't as mature as you think. Prom is for high school people, if she is so mature that she is dating 27 year olds Im surprised she would even want to go to prom at all.

Alot of this just isn't adding up....I think Graphik knows hes in the wrong but doesn't want to give up a hot girl

An 18 year old girl who is apparently mature enough to be dating a grown man 9 years her senior would most likely not care about prom that much. This type of girl probably wouldn't even have very man friends her age, if any. I don't see this girl getting excited about Prom to the point where she would end a relationship over it. Mature relationships don't end over something like this. You probably knew girls in high school who dated guys in their early to mid 20's, and they were probably too stuck up to care about her fellow classmates much. She probably wanted to do GROWN things, not HS dances.

If Graphiks girl is as mature as he says she is I think she would fall under this category.

And I'm just speculating that Graphik believes that he is doing the wrong thing. In his own mind, that is.

The solution is quite simple really. And it starts with telling her family your age. Once they know, 1 of 2 things will happen.

1. They totally freak out, hate your guts, and the relationship is over. And the prom is now out of the question.

OR

2. They are angered by the deception, but see that you're an upstanding guy that treats their daughter/granddaughter with the respect she deserves, and forgive you. And then you go to the prom.

LOL.. that's what I'm saying. I know girls who went to prom with 32 year olds, and yeah, they went on to get married and have a great life. She was extremely mature, but yes, they came to prom because it meant a whole lot to her. I remember Gary talking to me about it as he was sorta freaked out because he cant' dance, lol. That's what he was most worried about, not ridicule from his older friends, but ridicule from the younger people at prom because of his lack of rhythm, lol.

To be honest, if they still feel that way after they've been in college a few years or finished college, they've got a few screws loose IMO.
