Re: The official "OS Occupation" Thread.

Reading this thread can almost be depressing. Having spent the last 8 years bouncing between retail positions while constantly missing out on opportunities to advance, I need to get into something other then retail at this point. Currently Im stuck in that same rut at Best Buy and trust me when I say I cant stand working there anymore.

The department editor wants me to be the guy to write news and recaps on Everett, which is my home city and the state's best high school football team. It shouldn't be too hard because I've been the sports guy for my local paper since freshman year in high school (I'm entering college now) and have written pieces for several different papers.

I'm hoping to pay my dues and by ten or so years, really be a go-to guy for professional sports. It's a dream of mine so your definately not alone in the journalism geekness.

I truly belive as horribly cliche as it sounds that if you put your best foot forward and get an inch of luck you'll make some solid cash and even do something you enjoy. Just be prepared to work hard and figure out what you want. No matter what your age or situation is. My dad taught this to me by example.

I work for a software company in Seattle. We make software that retail companies use to make signage in their stores. Most major retailers use our software (Best Buy, Office Depot, Kroger, Walgreens etc...)

It's a pretty awesome job, and a pretty awesome small company. I just moved here from Austin, TX where I worked for BedAndBreakfast.com, which was another awesome company to work for.

Haha yeah, but it's weird up here there's more people in Texas garb than UW garb. There's quite a few bar owners that are UT grads, and there's a big UT fanbase up here which is quite nice. The other day this girl in my building comes to apt to ask if I have some ice (we don't have ice makers here, just trays) and when she comes in to get the trays she sees my autographed Texas mini helmet on my fridge, and my Texas blanket on my chair and she's like "OMG ARE YOU A TEXAS FAN?" turns out she, and her fam all graduated from Texas and are big fans. It sucks not being able to go to the games anymore, but it's cool knowing there are a lot of fans here. Texas is the highest selling merchandise school in the country tho, so it's not too surprising.

Just wait till UW starts winning again. The Green River Community College and Bellevue CC grads will be out in full force wearing their Husky colors once more.

Wasn't easy money when he started, but he found the right niche, right cars, right location. Now it almost runs on autopilot. Good Luck!

That's awesome. That used to be my dream as well. But I couldn't help but notice these from a aspiring journalist.

I'm about to sell women's shoes at Nordstrom. Should be money time.
