Re: The official "OS Occupation" Thread.
I work for a local credit union as a teller and now I work at Game Crazy as well since I just got the job today.
I am pretty excited for it and should be pretty good at I think. I just gotta keep my numbers up and all that good stuff. But once college starts back up I am gonna have to drop the credit union which is gonna be rough since I have been there for a year and am friends with alot of my co-workers. I dont know how well its gonna go over though because they thought I was leaving for the Air Force but I decided to postpone that as I feel I would be better off going in as an officer if I decided to do that when I get my degree.

cashierI've heard this "patience is a virtue" junk all my life. I'm happy to say I have no virtue, no scruples, and no desire to wait too long for anything. In my humble opinion instant gratification takes too long!

Re: The official "OS Occupation" Thread.
Dear God, enjoy Game Crazy while you can. I got so screwed by that place they literally altered their handbook just so they could fire me. What did I get fired for you ask? Not theft, not attendance, not dress code, not my numbers since they were in the top 3 in the district, not my attitude, not my work ethic, it was because I was a smoker who would stand outside the front of the store and smoke when the store was empty. My manager said I could do it, but when the District Manager got caught dipping his pen in the company ink he was replaced and the new guy wanted his own people in management positions, needless to say I got shafted. We were forced to work shifts by ourselves with no breaks given so for this reason the manager told us we could smoke as long as we kept an eye on the store. Since then I have gone by this store atleast 20+ times and everytime the guys are standing right in front of the door smoking, and it isnt just one employee, apparently they all get the itch at the same time. God if I could burn down every Game Crazy from coast to coast I would, what a terrible place to work.I work for a local credit union as a teller and now I work at Game Crazy as well since I just got the job today.

Almost forgot, they fired me over the phone, wouldnt supply a reason until I turned in my keys and promised not to fight my unemployment, even though in the end they did anyways, and lost, what a shady company.Comment

Re: What do you do?
Anyone have any ideas for a better job coming from an authorized retailer verizon wireless store. Looking for a better job, but I'm not sure what I'd be "qualified" for. I've been here for a year in mid july, and I've done pretty well with sales here.I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

Re: The official "OS Occupation" Thread.
Bumping this to see what everyone is doing these days:
I am currently the Director of Ticket Operations for the Yakima Bears, the Single-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks. Interned this summer, hired on full-time after the season. I like it so far, but I don't know if sales are my thing. Might go back to grad school in a year or two and get my Master's.Comment

Re: The official "OS Occupation" Thread.
I'm a year and a half away from finish college. To tell you the truth, I don't even want the stupid degree. I don't even want to get a career afterwords.
I want to travel. I'd love to just get away and see the world, but that will never happen. *** **** student loans; makes it worse when I don't even want to be in college.Comment

Re: What do you do?
Basically two years later, I'm pretty much right there, though my focus has changed a bit.I'm in film school studying filmmaking.
I used to work retail/sales at Enterprise Rent-A-Car and while I learned a lot (stuff that I just recently realized has benefitted me in terms of directing and managing people) I never want to do retail again.
I'm hoping that by next year I'll be working in the film industry, even if it is a small time gig.
In 2007, I worked on a number of short films and a feature film. I also worked on a feature film in late 2008. My IMDB credits should be going up pretty soon. Excited about that.
Since Jan 2008, I've been working for a Music and Events Production Company as a Production Coordinator. I handle all of the graphic design work for productions and company releases. I also film and edit all video for promotion and clients.
I'm actively writing and laying out plans to get a writing job for television. I also have my own writing projects in the works, and my job offers me opportunities within the industry."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace
