    Re: Shooting at Virginia Tech

For those wanting stricter gun laws, so things like this don't happen..

NAGASAKI--Nagasaki Mayor Itcho Ito died at a hospital early Wednesday, 7-1/2 hours after being shot by a gangster on the street near his election campaign office in Nagasaki.
Japan has some of the strictest gun laws in the world, yet the Mayor is shot down.

Point is...just because you have strict(er) gun laws, doesn't mean things will get better or change drastically.

Yeah that's a pretty disturbing picture. The look in his eyes says it all IMO. Now we see what he was doing during the 2 hours in between shootings.

The outfit in that picture is what a few eyewitnesses stated he was wearing.

Excellent insight by the former FBI profiler on NBC: "It's obvious to me that this guy did not want to be captured."

The worst part about this is that the media is giving this guy exactly what he wanted....tons and tons of exposure. What other reason was there to email the pictures/videos to NBC?

I know it's their job, but sometimes I wish this stuff wouldn't become public.

EDIT - Can someone explain to me why the glove on his left hand has the fingers cut out, but not on the right hand? I would assume it's to get a better grip to pull the trigger, but why wouldn't it be the same on the other hand?

the couple clips they showed were very creepy. Apparently he started making these videos 6 days before the shootings. Kind of scary that after the first 2 killings he went back home and took the envelope to the post office.

                      If it bleeds it leads.

That being said, NBC could show some tact and not give into a psycho's last wishes. There is a reason the news very seldom reports about suicides, to present copycats. I know there is the need to inform people, but the coverage this is getting is only encouraging copycat killers.

Hey, that was at least 4 years of college in that assessment.

Just him talking about random things. They showed some pictures of him holding guns and then him with a hammer for some reason.

Because the 22 is a smaller handgun than the 9mm, he could not get his finger through the trigger guard with the fingers gloved. So he cut them off.

                                Actually, it does.
No one expects murders by firearm to stop - that's foolish - you expect that they will decrease.

                                2004 U.N data shows Japan's murder rate at 1.4 per 100,000 people. America's, in contrast, was 9.4.

Nagasaki's mayor - one man - was killed by a local gangster; part of the organized crime world. In contrast, 32 students were murdered, essentially at random, by a pissed-off loon.

Making any such comparisons between the two cases with relation to lax weapons laws being beneficial is specious at best, and disingenuous at worst.
