Ours too, but really if you want to get in, you are going to get in. People hold the doors for each other all the time here. If you are going to someone else's dorm, most people just wait outside until someone who lives there comes out or goes in. Or we just knock on the door if someone is near by and they always let us in.

Re: Shooting at Virgina Tech
So some of you guys actually believe that the shooting in the dorm was not connected to the shootings in the classrooms?
What, was it all one big coincedence?Comment

Re: Shooting at Virgina Tech
I think most people think the two shooting are connected, obviously. But, authorities have yet to completely confirm that just yet. It's pretty telling that they're not actively looking for anyone else though, according to the reports I'm hearing.Comment

Re: Shooting at Virgina Tech
This is absolutely tragic...it's utterly senseless to see all this life taken. My heart goes out to the families of these kids.
I've been reading some of these posts and it's making me think back to when a student at U.C.L.A. was asked to show some identification to the campus police. He had a backpack on....refused to show I.D. and refused to stop for the campus police when ordered. The wound up using the taser on him and the outcry of police brutality was huge.
I tried then to make people understand the reasoning as to why you would want to take someone down quickly and incapacitate him if possible when someone in law enforcement issues an order. Of course most continued on the "it wasn't necessary" path.
That kid could have been the monster on the Va.Tech campus today.
You just do not know nowadays.
The video with the audio of the shots being fired is pretty disheartning....knowing that these kids are being gunned down.
It's going to take some of the survivors a long time to cope with this.
My prayers are with them....the families of those who died...and with those that lost their lives.

Re: Shooting at Virgina Tech
Very sad to hear this.
I am not religious, but I hope there's something better waiting for the innocents killed and something worse for the shooter.
I really don't understand American gun laws. In Australia, there was one incident like this about 15 years ago...and IMMEDIATELY gun laws were changed and there's been nothing since.
England...Sweden...Australia...Germany...and on and on...you don't get crap like this happen.
I am currently in Asia and you never, ever, see stuff like this. Where one guy with a grudge can extract all sorts of personal pain just because he's had a few bad days...
It's too easy in the US to load up...and it makes it inevitable that some freak who loses his mind is going to go on a rampage.
I can only imagine how scared those kids must have been before they died.
It's a pity a few bigger guys didn't rush him and take him out. I know people are scared for their own safety, but it's a mans responsibilty to make sure women aren't hurt when it comes to stuff like this. It's a pity a few guys didn't coathanger the piece of S...T and take him out.
Horrible.Comment

Re: Shooting at Virgina Tech
There's a fairly large contingent of VA Tech alum here in D.C. and I know tons that went there or like myself had spent some time partying down there at some point so for me it's a little unsettling. Only know one person in grad school down there and heard from his brother he was ok around noon. Luckily he was in class next door.
Thoughts are with the victims and their families and those of us here in D.C. are feeling this too.
One of the worst parts about all this is that the bitch turned the gun on himself, like most of these rampage shooters, so no one has a chance to really study why these guys snap.RIP #21

Horrible.
Germany? The Erfurt massacre was a school shooting that occurred on April 26, 2002 at the Johann Gutenberg Gymnasium in Erfurt, Germany. Seventeen people were killed before the perpetrator committed suicide, including 14 teachers, 2 students, and 1 police officer.
Asia? The Osaka School Massacre took place on June 8, 2001, at Ikeda Elementary School, an elite primary school affiliated with Osaka Kyoiku University in Osaka Prefecture, Japan. At 10:15 that morning, 37-year-old former janitor Mamoru Takuma entered the school armed with a kitchen knife and began stabbing numerous school children and teachers. He killed eight children, mostly between the ages of seven and eight, and seriously wounded thirteen other children and two teachers. Takuma was later convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. The sentence was executed on September 14, 2004.
UK? The Dunblane massacre was a multiple murder-suicide which occurred at the primary school in the Scottish town of Dunblane on 13 March 1996. It remains the deadliest attack on children in United Kingdom history. Sixteen children and one adult were killed, in addition to the attacker.
Please take any agenda you have out of this thread. This stuff has happened before and all over the world. Blaming American gun laws is being extremely short sighted.
As far as blaming it on "the times", the worst mass murder in US history actually took place in the 1920's. It was bombs, but it was a school building. Killed 45 people. Why? Cuz some wack job was pissed off that his taxes were raised to pay for the building.
Since man's existence crap like this has always happened, and always will. We just live in a different information age.
Anyhow, my prayers to the VT family. A truly horrific, tragic day that I cannot put the proper words to.PSN: JISTIC_OS

I think lots of college kids do that. I remember even putting rocks to prop doors open so I wouldn't have to swipe my card for 1.5 seconds to open the door. You can beef up all the technology for security all you want, but some behavior has to change.Comment
