Monster is the way to go if you really need a boost....

but I assume it's pretty unhealthy since it says on the can "do not consume more than 3 in 24 hours"

TJ.. the taste alone is nasty - almost like that NyQuil stuff!

A co-worker of mine drinks that stuff, but it's repulsive to me...

Re: Red Bull bad for you?

First of all, Red Bull tastes like crap. I don't understand the fascination with energy drinks. A coworker of mine two years ago had one of these laying around so I asked about it and tasted it. Last time I ever tried that crap. And even if it tasted good I wouldn't drink it.

As others have already mentioned. Get rest, workout, eat healthy. That's all you need.

I've tried doing all of that for my entire life and the only times I could ever complain about being tired in the morning is when I don't do any of those things. There's a simple connection.

Most of my friends, schoolmates, coworkers always complain about being tired in the morning. But then they also eat crap, go to bed at 3 AM to wake up at 7 AM, and don't do anything cardio besides rushing to class/work.

I appreciate the morning suggestions because an apple or a banana/oat shake is right up my alley. I prefer doing that than eating a bowl of Frosted Flakes - something my family loves doing and I can't stand.

And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I only drink redbull when I needed to stay up all night for college, and when drinking jagermeister. I did try drinking it before working out for a week and the results were horrible. I would get dehydrated rapidly, and my heart rate was crazy high after only a little while. I got dizzy while I was doing my 10 minute jogging.

It is also popular with NFL players before games, since they banned a bunch of the other stuff they'd use to get pumped before a game.

I eat an orange and peach every morning... works for me.

Don't drink those energy drinks, just don't trust them.

I eat well, exercise, and get a good nights sleep. If you can do this also, you won't need artificial means for gaining energy.

I'm not a stressed person either, and if you have that going for you also, it's even easier.

Instead of wondering if artificial enhancers are healthy, you might want to consider whether the lifestyle that is causing you to turn to artificial enhancers is healthy. And if it's not, I'd suggest making changes at the core instead of seeking out temporary fixes.

I love Apples (green ones, Granny Smith!), I had no idea though it's better than coffee or something I don't drink coffee or energy drinks. I never understand why people need a boost in the morning either.

Nice post. Everyone is always looking for the easy way out, the miracle pill, the quick-fix. It's really a sad summary of our country.

But when the answer is hard work, dedication and discipline no one wants to hear it. They think, "there's got to be a quick and easy way". Everything from diet pills to energy drinks to those idiotic ab belts that electrically shock you into getting a 6-pack. Yyyyyeah okay!

I think consistency is the key. I'll be doing my 123rd workout tonight! Lost 46 pounds so far. 4 pounds until the even 50#. Still about 35-40 more to go though.
