    Re: The Official Poker Thread

    Sweet!

I had a pretty bad beat in a cash game that I was playing the other night with my buddies...

I had pocket aces, one was a club and one was a diamond. Flop comes lower cards, but there's a five and seven of clubs on the floor. So the guy and I are betting, whatever, turn comes and it's another club, but a six of clubs.

At this point, I go all in (I had about 25 of my 40 chips left) because I had top pair and a flush draw. The guy calls with a NINE-THREE and catches a ****ing straight flush because the river was a four of clubs. He had a three of clubs. 3-7 straight flush.

I was very upset. Imagine losing not only with pocket aces, but losing with an ace-high flush to a straight flush because some douche kept calling my bets with a nine-three offsuit.

no-limit or limit? Cause if it was no-limit I would have pushed with the pockets early... That way you force the guy to make the bad decision right away, and hope he doesn't pull out a long odds beat.

It was no-limit. I was thinking of pushing early but I wanted to milk some chips out of him. It's not often I get pocket aces. Definitely did not assume he had a freakin' three-of-clubs.

Incidentally, I got AA later on in the game after I rebought, and I won that one. I forget the circumstances though, lol.

I ended up losing heads up with A-3, flop came 3-7-7. I went in partly because I wanted to end it and he called with K-7. Too bad, I could have used that money for Metroid

Yeah, I generally always push right after the flop, or go half before and half after with AA... I don't ever want to give them a chance of sucking out on me...

You win more small pots but over the long run lose at lot of value playing this way.

The solution: quit playing with donks.

I wasn't talking about bluffing inexperienced players. Only an idiot would bluff against someone who isn't going to fold.

I was referring to playing big pocket pairs so aggressively preflop or right after the flop such that you greatly increase your chances of winning the pot right there (and reduce suckouts) but lose a lot of value from stations chasing flushes or trashier hands.

guy calls every raise with a A10.
I knew i was beat when that ace appeared but i had to see it.

Why do people play if theyre gonna play like this?... whats the point.

Oh i have an ace imma just call everything till my ace appears.

                      retarted.

You guys don't know the guy I was going up against though. He would call anything. He's just that type of player. It's annoying as **** but what are you gonna do? I guess he was going for it because he had his straight draw and flush draw. I guess I could have played it better, but still. Even if I pushed before the flop or right after the flop, he would have called it.

it sucks to get sucked out on... but if hes gonna call down like that every time then carefully choose the hands you play with him.. eventually youll beat him.. if you truly are the better player

Oh yeah, I definitely pick and choose when I play against him, but how am I gonna turn down the pocket aces situation like that scenario I described above? Haha.

I usually have pretty damn good discipline. I'll always get out of the way when I need to.
