Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
lol but really, it is weird to see how different kids of today are vs kids were even just 15-20 years ago. If I ever want to feel old, just talk to any of my younger cousins. I think they have even more apps than me, and play more games now than I probably ever owned for one console. And of course have like a 3DS,Iphone,PS4 and other stuff.Comment

People that drive wrecklessly. You're behind the wheel of a huge machine capable of killing people and doing heavy damage to anything it crashes into.
EDIT: Oh and all the 'back in my day' bull****. I'm guilty of it too tho. It's super easy to have that line of thinking, but times change. Doesn't mean the current generation doesn't have their own crap to deal with.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
The part related to the "back in my day" stuff I hate, is basically being on the receiving end of it too. The whole "millennial vs older generation" stuff that exists.
I still never get why the participation trophy reasoning is basically their "go to response" when saying how spoiled the younger generation is. Even those who are getting participation trophies don't exactly agree with it all the time either....
I think up to a certain age they should stop, but for a 5 year old kid, getting a participation trophy could be the difference in them continuing to have interest in a sport or giving up on it. Once they hit age 10 or something, then I think that's too old for it.
And similarly, older people acting like younger people got no idea about older things. I might love having wifi and cellphones all that, but I'm not that young either where I don't remember life before cellphones, or life with dial up internet, vcrs, cassettes and all that. As a matter of fact, back in the late 90s/early 00s, weren't younger people actually the ones who knew how to "program a vcr" for the older people?Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Every generation has it easier. But its up to the older generation to remind the younger generation how hard they had it. Its like the circle of life. Wouldn't want any new generations to be too cocky.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Like how past generation, it was about having more attitude and being edgier and all that(aka the late 90s in pop culture/tv and everything too). Or younger generation being rebels and listening to rock music and that type of stuff in the 80s and before. Every generation has their "generational debates".Comment

Idiot drivers who are always in a hurry. I got to a crosswalk this morning 1 or 2 seconds after the walk signal came on and was crossing about 10 feet behind a woman who had been waiting. As I'm crossing a minivan decides to try and quickly make the turn off the side street passing between me and the lady crossing in front of me only to have to slam on the brakes as the lady dropped something. I just stood there for a second looking at the driver like "WTF are you doing you idiot!"
Also the fact that there is always garbage strewn about the ground around the bus stop that I wait at in the afternoon despite the fact that there is a garbage can right next to it.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

This wasn't a "I'm 30 feet away and it's about to turn might as well go" situation. This was, "I have no chance in hell, I'm liable to kill someone but I'm going any way". Luckily no one was going the other direction and it only changed for us because they might have been t-boned.Comment

Flopping in sports, specifically in basketball.
These are the most gifted, coordinated, athletic freaks in the world. Don't tell me that they can't stay balanced and on their feet.
Any time a flop happens, whether or not there is a foul, if the refs don't see it in-game to do something about it, the player should be fined. Hell, the player should be fined regardless.

Hate this in men's soccer as well. For whatever reason, when I watched the women's world cup a few years back there wasn't nearly as much.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
FYI, NBA players are fined $5,000 for flopping and it goes up by 10K every time you get caught doing it. First time I saw flopping was in soccer about 8 years ago. Messi at that time was known as the King of Flopping.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Yet how many times does flopping even get flagged in the NBA anymore? Seems like it rarely does. One of the more notable recent times it happened was that Lebron "My own teammates hand hit me, so I'm gonna fall backwards 10-15 feet" James in the playoffs this past year.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
What grinds my gears is my coworker who is living vicariously through his younger cousin who plays NCAA ball. He talks to him on the phone after the games and treats him like a soccer mom scorning her kid for not playing physical or whatnot. He basically want the boy to gun and shoot more and to disregard his teammates. I just witnessed him telling this boy to call a player only meeting so he can tell his teammates that he's the man and he wants the ball.
While I love the fact that he has someone in his corner giving him encouragement but he's also misleading him into thinking basketball is all he's got or he's going to work a regular job. Basically gasing him up to make it to the NBA. I don't know if what he's doing is good or bad but I can obviously tell that he's living through him because his basketball career was cut short.
It's really not bad to "suggest" that he shoot more or to put up higher numbers. Its the delivery. He tells him that all his teammates will be working regular jobs and you'll have all the money. Tell your teammates that I'm the one with a future and if they don't like it, don't care. To me, it just feels like a bad approach to put into a persons head. To be selfish. I know you have to be a little selfish if you expect to be approached by scouts but I don't think filing a young mind with such false hope is the way to go.
I donno, I've personally never had a family member with a chance to make it somewhere so this is all my opinion. How would you guys handle a situation like that? Btw, the kid goes to IPFW who played Indiana yesterday. Not a major college but major enough to draw scouts.http://neverfollow.biz (Independent Music Group)Comment
