      LOL! That's good!

Yeah she knows it was a holiday. It's alright though it's an older couple in their 70's and they like their lawn kept nice. I don't even charge them for it I do it for free and it only takes 30 minutes to do their yard.

When I make a traffic stop, as soon as I step out of my unit, I hit reset. It's how I was trained years ago. My probable cause for pulling you over (running stop sign, failure to yield, etc) is just that. Probable cause. The chance of you getting a ticket at that point depends almost entirely on your attitude. Which brings me to a grinding of a gear.

Some people, more often women than not, will seriously start out verbal exchange with "Oh like hell you gonna..." And at that point, I'm most often gonna. Whatever it is I'm not gonna do, if I can do it legally, ethically, morally and with probable cause, it's going to happen. We gonna.

So recently, I was told what I wasn't gonna do. And I did it. A woman cut off a vehicle in traffic in front of me, no turn signal, flipped him off and almost caused a wreck with me right in the middle of it. I wrote her for a Failure to Yield While Entering a Highway, to which she unleashed a barrage of cursing toward me. I smiled, she signed the UTC, I went about my night, disconnected from her attitude as I do every contact. Never let your last situation effect your next. It can get you killed.

The next day, I've got a formal complaint against me from Mrs. Aintgonna. Review my bodycam with my Sergeant and we laugh and it's shredded and forgotten right there.

So don't grind gears by telling someone what they "ain't gonna" do, especially when they have the full authority to do it. It tickles. It brings the warm and fuzzies. And it brings the ink-on-paper that most of us don't really care to do. I hate writing tickets.
Appreciate you sharing and please continue to do so.

I have to say, my experience with the police has not been particularly good. I've been pulled over 3 times in my life, all for extremely minor traffic infractions (e.g. not coming to an absolute 100% full stop before making a right at a 4-way when there were no other cars within a half mile of the intersection, etc.), have never been anything but polite and cordial with the police and treated them with the utmost respect, and have gotten a ticket every single time. So my experience tells me that being polite and respectful to the police doesn't do anything to dissuade them from giving you a ticket. Or maybe it just depends on who you are.

Based on these interactions, as well as 1-2 other less-than-pleasant interactions (which I mostly just witnessed, wasn't directly involved in), my impression of the police in general is not good if I'm being honest. And I consider myself a law-abiding citizen, never really been in trouble in my life.

At the end of the day, if you are an average person and don't get into trouble and live in a reasonably nice area, your only interactions with the police are going to be bad because the only time you are likely to engage with them is if you are being fined for something. That's just sort of the way it is, and so by the nature of that dynamic, 100% of your interactions with the police are likely to be negative. Or, some people are just unlucky I guess.

On the other hand, if your only interactions with the police are when they are giving you a petty fine, I suppose your life isn't that bad....

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Yeah, my only run-ins with cops (other than a couple good friends who became cops and random neighbors) have been for pretty minor speeding violations.

First time, I was speeding back from a Cubs-Cardinals game at old Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Those dang central Illinois cops can be some of the worst. Anyway, he popped me for going 93 in a 65. This is at 3 AM and we're essentially the only car on the highway and surrounded by corn and soybean as far as the eye can see. Still, a little bit fast and the cop said I passed him which is a definite whoops and probably indicates we should've got a motel room instead of powering through so late at night. This was maybe 15 years ago?

Second time was out west on my way back from a week-long archaeological dig/vacation in Colorado, I got caught going 80 in a 65. Tried to use the old "coasting down the mountain slope" excuse but the officer rightly noted I was on a long stretch of flat ground. I asked him where's the hospitality, officer? I'm on vacation. When he offered to take me "down to the station," I changed my approach. This was 10-15 years ago.

Most recent time, just this past winter, I got caught for going ~40 in a 25. But this is one of those areas where the 25 isn't really justified because it's a busy 4-lane road and nobody really goes that speed. It was ~2 AM and I was on the way back from taking my dog to the emergency vet for a sprained tail (not really an emergency in retrospect, but can be scary when the doggie is yelping and in a lot of pain and didn't know what it was at the time) and got some pills at Walmart. Was on my way home, just a few blocks away, when a well-positioned cop locked onto me, followed me for a good 1/2 mile, then turned on the lights to seal the deal. I told him, but officer I have a sick dog in the car (true story), and he decided to be nice to me by writing me for 35 in a 25 instead of ~40 (I think I was going about 38 or 39). Aww, shucks. I was a bit of an ******* to him for writing me up at all with my injured, howling dog in the car and when I was the only car on the road, but ah well. Live and learn.

I have beat a speeding ticket on one occasion (cop didn't show up to traffic court and I did) as well as a slew of parking tickets from college. Pretty proud of those much earned wins.

But, yeah, I think most cops are fine. Some seem to get off on the power and their ability to make people do stuff, but I imagine most cops who last in the profession get over that little thrill pretty quick.

About 10 or 11 years ago Hardees had this Hawaiin pineapple chicken sandwich. I ate so many I gained 30 lbs. Then, poof. No more.😣 In hindsight I'm probably lucky they discontinued it . I also wish taco bell still had a Bell burger. Oh so good.
