Yeah. It's funny because baby boomers were labeled as lazy, lacking ambition, and just generally a pathetic generation when they were in their 20s. Gen X was lazy, self important, angsty and lacking ambition when they were in their 20s. Now it's their turn to blabber on about the current generation.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Coke Zero used to have bite. It tasted like actual Cola to me and nothing like Coca-Cola which I despise and basically refuse to drink.
Then they changed the recipe so that Coke Zero uses their European formula which tastes more like regular Coke, which is fine for what most people want but for me, since I hate Coke, the new Coke Zero tastes like watered down Coke to me.

Yeah, I've made multiple attempts to start drinking Diet Dr Pepper, but it's always the aftertaste that I can't get past. I guess I'm just very sensitive to the taste of aspartame or whatever the artificial sweetener is.Steelers : IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
One thing a buddy did in grad school (said he wanted to waste his empty calories on beer not soda) was wean himself off the regular stuff over time. In about 2 months time, he went from 100% regular soda to 100% diet soda by changing the proportions a little bit each week to get used to it. I doubt I could ever do that, but it seemed to work for him.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Agreed. I've never tasted a diet soda that i can bear. My wife loves to secretly switch our drinks so that i get a large unexpected gulp of Diet Coke. Sometimes i anticipate it. But she anticipates my anticipation and does not switch them and i still get a big gulp of Diet Coke. Or sometimes she just switches the lids. Its inconceivable.Last edited by NolanRyansSnowmonkey; 06-06-2018, 07:48 PM.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I was told by my primary doctor and then my kidney doctor that diet sodas are rough on the kidneys because of the artificial sweetener that is used.
So I never drink diet drinks.I can't shave with my eyes closed, meaning each day I have to look at myself in the mirror and respect who I see.
I miss the old days of Operation Sports :(

Yes, and those criticisms were completely accurate. The Boomers were lazy compared to their parents, and Gen X was overly angsty and complacent. It's been a steady decline downhill since the WW2 generation.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Just because one generation always complains about the next doesn't make the complaints any less true. And it doesn't make the counter-complaints any more pithy, either. Each generation is a lot different than the one before it. Successive generations have it a lot easier from a technological and health standpoint--this is the first generation where they quite literally don't even need to go outside to sustain the basic functions of life (food, shelter, work, commerce, social interactions). Some things get more challenging as time marches along. Millennials make an easy target; some of the criticisms are fair and some are way overblown. In some ways, millennials are underrated with the strange new world they have to deal with and old timers didn't. I also think plenty of millennials have a strong work ethic, and I know this for a fact because they are in the classes I teach while balancing working, athletics, social life, volunteering etc.Chicago Cubs | Chicago Bulls | Green Bay Packers | Michigan WolverinesComment

To be honest, a lot of flavored water from companies you never heard of taste nasty. I know over the years I fell sucker to those 10 for 10 sales or 12 for 10. Just to get home, drink it and say what the hell ? Every once in a while though you come across one that taste good though.

That day i stood upon one of their tallest tables and cried a solemn vow to never step foot in that Taco Bell again - until it is proven to me that they've corrected their wayward path.
I didnt actually do that. But in my head i most certainly did. Fortunately there is another TB less than 5 minutes away who still carries the normal selection of drinks. So next year when i want Taco Bell again i will know exactly where to spend my money.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
I don't drink diet drinks because I enjoy them, unfortunately.
I'll tell you what IS good though, most flavors of the new Pepsi brand "Bubly" carbonated water. Much, much, much better than LaCroix garbage. Higher level of flavor and carbonation for sure.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
Now i dont go to Taco Bell very often... but a while back i walked i to my local TB and ordered my wife and myself a couple of meals. They gave me my drink cups and i proudly Scotsman-walked over to the fountain drinks to get the only thing i ever drink with any fast-food meal - Dr Pepper. I dont know about anywhere else, but around here almost everyone carries Dr Pepper. But this Taco Bell had just recently made the "ingenious" business decision to overhaul their entire fountain drink selection with an unrecognizable assortment of unknown brands of soda... im sorry but what?? No Coke. No Pepsi. No Dr Pepper. No Sprite. etc... Instead i get my gears ground to nubs with Uncle Wally's Groovy Grape Soda Pop or something.

Taco Bell is so low on the overall food chain (even by fast food standards) but I'd be lying if I didn't say I go there just about as often as I am able. I don't live near one (which is good), but when I did, I must have spent a small fortune there, $6-8 dollars at a time. Although I was surprised by how inflation/price creep has happened over time; the last time I was there, I think I spent like $15, which for me is a mind-blowing amount to spend at a Taco Bell. I remember being able to get out of there with a bag-load of food for like $5.Comment
