Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Trying to find a job, and being brought in for pretty much what is a "token" interview to fill in a HR Quota checklist.

I did a job that is mainly a very female heavy industry that being bookkeeping/accounting.

I applied for a bookkeeping job at a High School, and they had to keep asking me about how I would deal with working in an office where I'd be the only man. It really felt like they only had me come in because I'm a guy.

I thought I hit it out the park with my answers and what not, but got a rejection letter a few months later saying they went with a candidate that was more in line with their culture i.e. female.

it's weird because people are usually nice to me at the store, but the interaction in general is what I want to avoid

there's a lot of "oops, I'm sorry" and "no, you're good" that work out, but there's always the threat of someone trying to do a stop n chat, and I can't have that

I had a complaint filed against me for failing to fuel up a vehicle to the policy compliant 3/4 tank. It was on 1/4 tank when I returned the vehicle.

I had a busy shift where I didn't get the eat, got off late due to a power line down, was sitting in my own sweat drenched uniform after training in 95 degree weather...and yep I just wanted to go home as it was my Friday.

I'll accept my punishment. I'll also never speak or associate with that person again.

Isn't it funny how antisocial we have sometimes become as a society? I am usually fairly social and up for a little small talk, but i also find myself trying not to make eye contact at the store, but oddly enough, its usually only with people i know or recognize. You would think it would be the opposite.

About a year ago, I saw a girl i used to be really good friends with at an outdoor market. She recognized me and called my name "Is that you NolanRyansSnowmonkey??" (Still not sure why they didnt put spaces on my birth certificate...but i digress.) So i turned around and we talked for about 15 minutes and it was nice.

Fast forward to two weeks ago. I was in Walmart going down a long aisle. I see her pushing her basket my direction, and i knew we were going to pass. I didn't particularly want to stop and chat, so i began adjusting something in my basket as some sort of weird excuse not to notice her. And in my peripheral vision, i noticed her making a very similar maneuver. And we walked by each other never "noticing" each other. I am 99% sure she saw me too. Lol. Yet we have nothing against each other.

We could have said "Hi" but at that point, it almost feels more rude to not stay and have small talk, since we are still acquaintances. I think we both chose the "I never saw you, so i didnt get the lovely opportunity to chat with you" maneuver, instead of the "Oh hi. I see you, but i dont want/have the time or desire to chat right now, so im just going to acknowledge you keep pushing my buggy" technique. Somehow the first one is easier and less offensive.

When we saw each other again at a restaurant a few days later, we chatted and joked like before.
Sometimes observing human nature just cracks me up, even with myself as the subject.

Seems petty and definitely other ways to handle this without someone being written up. SMH.

All symptoms of the same basic breakdown in common social courtesy and manners that has been accelerating in the last few decades. You see it manifest itself everywhere, from stores to airplanes to highways. Not really sure why but it's sad, really. Polite society is something to be proud of, not taken advantage of.

I don't get why people get all pissed off if they're in your way. Usually I find people notice fast and apologize. I'm on my phone a lot (my wife texts me the shopping list), so if I'm in the way I easily and nicely move when I see someone. Tends to just be fine.

This. The next time I see a random kid doing this in a store somewhere, I am going to rip out my own fingernails from the root with a pair of pliers.
