It's why I quit fantasy football. I got so turned off by people asking me what their Broncos fantasy players for going to do that week (this was during the Manning years).


I honestly don't care when people talk about it here, I just skip the post.

It's when people come up to me in person because I have Broncos stuff on and ask me if they think they should start so and so this week.

I quit for a few years because it was taking the enjoyment out of watching the actual sport. It was nice just enjoying the games without having to worry about my players or my opponent's players doing well.

But alas, gambling has sucked me back in and now I'm in 2 plus a weekly DFS comp

Yea, I think some misunderstand my distaste for it as hating it.

I don't, I enjoyed it when I played. I started playing many moons ago when everything was tracked through Monday morning box scores in the very primitive state of FF.

It all just came to an end for me one year. I think I was in at least three leagues, probably one here, a couple other random ones, and then one I did with college friends with a live draft.

The draft was a good friends house in Central PA so it was an overnight trip, there was a LOT of drinking because there were no hotels in the area (amish country) so we were all staying in one house.

I just remember one guy freaking out on me for drafting a TE in the fourth round (Julius Thomas who helped me win the championship that year BTW). But he claimed I ruined the entire draft by picking a TE that early in the draft lol.

That, coupled with the other stuff I mentioned above was enough to make me not be interested in it at all the next year.

I quit about a decade ago, but got talked into joining a work league a couple of years back. It's free and gives us something to talk about before meetings start. I have no interest in serious leagues.

And tonight is one of those nights where reality and fantasy collide for me. I'm down 5; guy I'm playing has Seattle's D while I have Jimmy G. Hope I get two wins, but I'll sacrifice my fantasy team if it means the Niners win. Priorities.

Bought our house back in January of this year. The back yard is completely fenced in all the way around and it's great for keeping our dog and kids in. One of our neighbors with an adjacent backyard owns two dogs. One some sort of mut/mix and the other an American Bulldog.

When we first moved in I fixed about 4 spots in the fence where they had been getting in with the previous owner here. The fence is on my property, so I fixed it to the best of my ability. Everything was fine for months and then one day I go outside and the neighbor's bulldog is in my back yard. The dog was growling, showing teeth, approaching me, etc.. so I walked away and through the front door and over to my neighbor's house.

I asked him to come get his dog. He explained he's not mean or aggressive. I just told the guy "hey I get that, but it's not my dog. It may see me as a threat.. I need it out of my yard because I have small children."

The guy obliges and a month or two pass and it happens again. I run the dog back under the fence (it's dug under my fence to get to my yard). I fix the issue and explain to the neighbor what happened. He boards up the fence and I told him the fence belongs to me and I don't want tacky pieces of wood on it. So he says he will make some adjustments off the fence (some sort of wire or something).

Well lately any time I enter the back yard the dogs stand at the fence barking non-stop. They absolutely do not take a break from barking and growling. It's been annoying, but whatever. Then last week my other neighbor calls me and tells us that both my neighbors dogs are in my back yard and jumped my dog. One had her by the neck and the other on her back. She and a guy driving down the road who saw what was happening stopped to break it up. I went home furious as could be, but luckily my dog was fine.

Neighbor wasn't home, but I called animal control. I told the guy I don't want to make enemies with my neighbor, but I'm ****ing tired of it. The fence is there to keep my dog in. He needs to figure his dog situation out because I have small kids as well and I won't hesitate to shoot his dog if it means protecting my family. I don't want it to come to that or the dog to have to live some miserable chained up life, but I will if I have to. The animal control guy understood and explained that 6 months ago he got a call out for the same dog breaking out and chasing kids in our neighborhood so It's already on a list of dogs. Well.. I talked to my neighbor and explained and he seemed genuinely remorseful despite my frustration and anger I thought he would do the right things.

He said he would make sure it didn't happen again. Well today my wife texts me at work saying her and my son were playing in the backyard when the dog broke under the fence somewhere and came after her and my son. She sent me a picture of the dog standing in my yard barking at them while they are on the back porch.

I'm beyond frustrated and mad. I called my neighbor and told him to ****ing fix it before I go home and fix it myself. Once again, I have little kids to think about. Keep your dog out of my yard or it won't end well.. being nice isn't working.

I guess my gear grinder is irresponsible pet owners. The dog is being a dog. He's being an ******* irresponsible dog owner. I don't want to harm another dog.

bit of a follow up

Last Tuesday my wife texted me that my neighbor's dog came into our yard and started growling at her and my 3yo son. She scooped him up and put him on the back porch and then rushed our dog to the porch too and closed the door. The dog was standing at the top of some rock steps that lead out of our porch and into the upper back yard. So apparently I missed a spot in the corner of our yard that's covered by trees and bush when I was mending the fence. The problem is the neighbor has already told me he's working on a fence or some other provisions and I saw where he was doing some goofy **** with some boards along the fence.

So the dog apparently burrowed it's way under the fence in the corner we couldn't see and had access to our yard again. Bear in mind this is our fence.. not theirs. It keeps our dog in just fine and it's not my responsibility to keep their dog out. I'll try, but it's not my dog.

So I text the guy furious sending him a picture of the dog in my yard asking him to fix it ASAP. He apologizes again and my wife said he came home from work and got his dog in the house. He sends me another message apologizing and saying he will fix a privacy fence or chain the dog up. I don't think you should own a dog if you have to keep it chained up and IMO it would just make the dog more aggressive in the event that it ever gets loose, but it's not my dog.

Last night I went to bed early because I've been sick. My wife and her friend were up in the house still and I got woke from sleeping to a crazy amount of commotion going on so I jumped up in a panic and ran out of the bedroom and my wife came storming back in the house telling me to go talk to our neighbor now because their dog broke into our yard AGAIN and was on our back porch attacking our dog. She has some cuts and puncture wounds that will likely heal and just need some antiseptic spray, but it could have been worse if we weren't home.

I was ****ing furious. I put on my shoes and went to go to their house and I saw yet again he was gone (it's like he just leaves and lets his dogs do whatever) and just his girlfriend was home. She's ****ing stupid as it is and lets them bark for hours at a time in the middle of the night so I didn't want to talk to her. So I sent him messages showing him my dog's wounds and told him that it won't happen again. Like it absolutely will not happen again and my wife called the PD to ask for the animal control officer on duty.

The first guy that came out to see us responded along with a Sergeant on duty and the patrolling officer in our neighborhood so it looked like we were being raided by the police. I explained what happened and told the guy if I catch his dog in my yard I'm shooting it. This is the third time it's happened and he keep saying he will fix it and clearly doesn't respect us enough to do anything about it. So they all go over and talk to the girlfriend and explain that they are responsible for the vet bills and that if they don't want to do that then we could take them to civil court and they would likely lose because we have police reports and text evidence/pictures to show our side of the story. They came back and explained to us that the next time they come out they are going to put the case in front of a judge and try to enforce "Emily's Law." where the dog has to be confined to a concrete slab with roof, fence, etc. and if it comes out it has to be muzzled. If it gets out and they can't control it then the owners will be taken to jail.

I LOVE dogs. I get that dogs have natural instincts, but I need these people to be good owners. If you have to chain a dog up or contain it to a 12x16 fence then you don't need it. The dog has just tasted blood at this point and will keep acting over and over. What makes me even more frustrated is the neighbors haven't come to talk to us even once. If my dog was attacking neighbors I would be a ****ing man about it and go talk to them in person and then make it right.

I told my wife I'm not going to live where I can't trust letting my kids out into my fenced in backyard or where I have to lock my dog on the porch at night or when I leave for work because my neighbors can't control theirs. I'm also a little frustrated with the PD because while they have been responsive and nice about it how many times do I have to complain for something to actually be ****ing done? The guy told me he hasn't even finished the first incident report from a few weeks ago.

Yeah in actuality I'd probably just shoot the dog with a bb gun or pellet gun unless I actually caught it in the act of attacking, but the whole process is difficult. I know it may sound harsh to some people, but if I'm choosing between that and the dog potentially breaking into my yard and attacking my kids then it's no question to me. We moved from the county where we didn't really have close neighbors to being door to door with people yet we are more respectful and better neighbors. I just don't think these people are respectful at all and probably shouldn't own an aggressive dog. It's stupid that the PD can't intervene.. it's almost like they need my dog to get killed or a child to be attacked to do anything. If I'm telling you the dog is on my property and I'm providing you pictures and inviting you to come look at my dog's injuries then throw me a bone here (no pun intended).

They should be able to give these people an ultimatum now and stop it.

Ha. I keep telling my wife I need a pellet gun for all the neighborhood cats and our neighbors' dog.

But I understand your feelings completely. We've had some run-ins (though not nearly as numerous and none recently) with our neighbors. It's ****ing frustrating because the dog doesn't know what it's doing wrong (before we moved in the dog had his share of like 4 backyards) and the owners care even less. Every few months the dog will wander off through the neighbor and they'll have to jump in the truck to find him. So clearly the motivation to discipline or even monitor the dog isn't there at all.

No one wants to shoot a dog because it’s an animal, but the owners are ****ty and if they can’t control the dog you have to let it go or put it down (if it’s this aggressive). They aren’t helping and the dog will ultimately lose in some way for it.

I don’t get people, man. Just be ****ing decent! Handle your business before it’s someone else’s and they handle it for you.

Sorry to hear you’re being put in this spot. If a dog attacked my wife or son, I would’ve already flown off the handle. There’s no second chances with that with me knowing the neighbor is negligent. You’re honestly going above and beyond to keep things as civil as possible. Good on you.

You're a better man than me. If a dog attacked my kids because of owner negligence I probably jump off the deep end.

Have you let your HOA know? It might not help in terms of immediate results but it would cover the spectrum for good documentation....Police Report, text messages, etc...
