I take my dog in the car sometimes just so he knows that all car rides don’t end up badly (groomer which he hates, vet, etc...) but it’s usually just short trips or when I pick my kids up from school. They get a kick out of him riding in the car [emoji2375]

So your solution, kids on leashes?

I actually saw someone do that before. It was one of those body harnesses but the same thing, the parent still had their kid tied.

A leash won't help, a kid'll eat through a leash in a minute. ya gotta put a steel chain on a kid or he'll be in the neighbor's yard eating his trash and grass.

Maybe I need to have kids to appreciate this then.

I guess it’s because I’m not that pressed to bring my pet with me, everywhere I go, especially to a damn grocery store of all places. That’s just straight disrespectful to everyone else that’s there.

To be fair, he and I only responded to the dislike for having dogs in the car. Neither of us condoned taking them into a grocery store (I would never think of taking my dogs into any store they don't need to be at).

I bring them in the car on short drives for reasons I mentioned above and the other one KG mentioned that it's actually a good practice to take them on a random car ride every now and again that isn't the vet so they don't associate a car ride with a terrifying ending.

I wouldn't bring them anywhere that makes others uncomfortable.

my biggest fear for animals in cars is lack of seatbelts. we'd never think of letting our children be beltless. carmakers spend so much effort in getting cupholders just right, they should put that same effort into making sure our best friends are as secure as our children. And maybe that technology is already out there but every dog I see in a car is just sitting there waiting to be a part of the windshield.

EDIT: somehow I failed to mention that earlier, and that was the most important part

The technology is out there, they actually have safety belts for dogs though I don't go that far myself.

They do have dividers to keep them in the back seat, which I just got a new one for my wife and I for Christmas this year.

You're not wrong though, they shouldn't be near either an airbag nor a windshield.

I just got back from Petsmart with my friend who is gonna dogsit my little guy (used to be her little guy) for a few days and she picked up a small doggy car seat for him.

she has ulterior motives, though, she let it slip that now if anyone wants to ride with her they have to sit in the back haha

I saw that when I was at PetSmart today!

I didn't see any that were for bigger dogs though.

There is definitely something that comes across as extra entitled about people who do that. I love animals, but I'm not going to force my pets around other people and then get mad and psycho defensive if a problem arises from that. Which, that happens all the damn time.

                              It’s January 2nd.

I’m off today and tomorrow and have worked all through the holiday weeks.

Just got a message from one of our other managers who’s been out for two weeks if I could cover Black Friday for him....

Seriously though, that sucks. I've never had the misfortune of needing to work holidays, so I literally don't know what that feels like.
