I can't begin to tell you how many times I've almost hit a guest with the carts I push at my work because they simply aren't paying attention walking throughout the store because their face is glued to their phone, then they have the nerve to give ME a dirty look. I'm not liable for your stupidity.

I go the classic route of the hand written shopping list. I like it better walking around with an actual list in my handComment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
OK, my favorite store-related pet peeve (could be anywhere in public) is when mothers (it's never dads, it's always the moms) are trying to leave but the kid is captivated by something, so the mom is like "OK, I'm leaving now, bye! bye! I'm leaving, bye!". Like, your kid is 4; quit with the mind games, just go pick them up and carry them out.
Y'all ever heard that crap? I've heard that more than once.Comment

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?
There is more than one way to parent a child which is something I found out the hard way. I used to think I had it figured out how I would parent my children and then I actually had ‘em and things changed drastically. My kids are opposites and what works for one does not usually work for the other. One of them gets their feelings hurt easy and the other will basically dare you to get on to them.
Sometimes in jest I tell my kids they are going to have to walk home if they do not get it in gear. They do not take it as a serious threat, but it lightens the mood and gets them to move at the same time. To me if you are constantly setting the precedent that you will in the end pick up your kid and move them then they will always push it to that point and they win. Yeah, you have to take your L’s as a parent from time to time if you’re in a hurry but parenting can feel like it’s small scale psychological warfare with kids sometimes. If I was really in a hurry I would probably just put my 4yo in the shopping cart.
My point I guess is that this lady might have established something that works. I remember my youngest kid would think a cantaloupe was a ball and freak out when you tried to give it to the cashier to scan at the store. Or he would get upset that he could not eat a banana right when you put them in a buggy. Every kid is different but most importantly most of them are good and have their own quirks that work. Now when I hear people’s kids freaking out in public, I just try not to assume anything. Yeah, there are times where I will hear a parent talking hateful to their kid or they do something stupid but for the most part I just mind my own business.

Stupid people , they seem to be in abundance now. This clown pulled this stunt yesterday going past my house. I recorded it with my phone off my security camera video.
