I dunno why it grinds me but it just does:
people who end a post asking a question to no one in particular, ending their post with
    "Let me know, thanks."

I know they usually say thanks, but thats not helping lol

Unfortunately it takes a while for the whole Darwin's law thing to weed out the extra stupid people. We just need a few more of those fireworks to boomerang back around.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

People, specifically my mom, who texts a food order but isn't specific about certain things.

This always happens at delis or places that i don't normally go. The last time she placed her sandwich order she didn't specify size or type of bread. If I do a drive-thru for her at Starbucks or KFC or something, they always ask me some customization question where I have to say "I'm not sure she wasn't specific," and they just have to make their best guess.

I'm always as specific as can be if I'm telling someone my order. No guesswork whatsoever. I hope most are like that, otherwise if your order ain't right then understand it ain't nobody's fault but your own.

Now the main problem with this dilemma is you may think "Just text her back and ask her." She really has trouble getting back to her phone in time, at times. Perhaps she's working, in the shower, it's in her purse, or whatever other reason you can think of. It never seems to pan out.

I've tried hard to get her better at this but it's a rarity.

Wait...you make them guess? They don't know your mom, man.

I agree people should specify on orders (*especially* on food), but even if you're wrong you'd have a better shot at being right than a random server who's just guessing.

One of the reasons I like ordering online. You can be as specific as you want, and it's just their job to read the screen telling them the order, and at times you find out things you wouldn't know if you're just ordering in person or over the phone.

Something as simple as pizza, instead of asking for a specific speciality pizza, or spending lots of time explaining what you want, I can just order online, do half and half with whatever toppings I want, I don't need to ask, but I can check and see if it's extra to get diff sauces/cheese or put extra on it, make it well done, thick crust, and some places have free add ons line chilli flakes, Olive oil, oregano and so on.

It would just be too much of a hassle going through all that in person.

What I mean is have them go with whatever is common, popular, or whatever. Normally I follow up with, "I don't know, what do you usually do?" Kind of like that. Or "What's the plainest?"

Anyway, to humor you all, I ran across an old text conversation I had with her when getting a sandwich:

As you can tell, me walking up to the counter and just saying "Can I have the Big Jake?" would clearly not be enough information.

My little nephew calls my mom Gaga by the way, which is why I said that.

I disagree, if the order is up in the air, I'd think the workers familiar with the type of order would go with common options, she might even get a better sub combination than even she knew she liked

Plus, if they get her preference wrong, you can pass the buck

Why not call her and discuss before getting in line to order?

That string of text could've been resolved simply by a phone call imo.

I mean sure, but why does anyone text anything at any time?

You don't know that I didn't call to begin with, nor do you know the circumstance of why she might not be able to take a call at that time (or place an order meanwhile as she uses her phone to seep through the menu). Maybe she's in the bathroom at a Target, maybe she's dealing with a customer at work, maybe there is a baby sleeping on her lap and she can't raise her voice above a certain level, or she's watching a movie with others and can't disrupt their dialogue.

You also don't know the duration of this text conversation, and the things she maybe had to do in between texts. My "Yes." was at 10:18 AM and my "Ok" was at 10:31 AM.

Plus, I ain't rememberin' orders nor am I going to stand at the counter and slowly state parts to the order (some places don't even allow this).

                            - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Now, if you want a real gear-grinder about people calling, when I was under her roof she used to call after coming home from work or whatever, but in a way where she would start the conversation saying "I'm about two minutes from home. Blah blah blah blah blah." I'm sitting there thinking: "Can't you just wait two minutes and tell me when you're at home?" And trust me it's never dire information about something she needs or something that just happened so she remembers to tell me. It normally would end with: "Okay, I'm pulling into the garage right now, see you in a sec."

Sure I don't know what your Mom may be doing at any given time, but if you all are constantly communicating, I would think you do.

And in those 13 minutes of texts or what not, making a phone call to ensure you get her order right isn't an option? You'd much rather leave it up to the person making the food to get the order as close to right as possible instead of calling the person you're texting to ensure their order is correct?

This was my ex. Her orders were always VERY specific. She customized EVERYTHING. There was no such thing as a simple order with her. Just picking up cheese at the deli would turn into a situation where I felt like I was giving instructions on how to build a bridge.
