One thing I hate is intentional walks, they should be illegal.

You realize they could just pitch around the guy right? lol

Is it not on the same plane as a ball being thrown at them?

It was just a question, no need to take it personally.

It was a fair question though, have you ever pitched in a scenario when you might want to throw at the batter?

I've never been in a situation where I wanted to hit a batter no. But Im still failing to see the point. My feelings are hurt, let me throw the ball at your body? Keep in mind the batters can't do anyhing in return. In the Dempster and Hamels examples, where is the point in hitting those players outside of selfish bull****?

A wooden bat is probably more dangerous. And it's less easily controlled.

Even if he wants to, he shouldn't, if that's where you're going with this. It's dangerous no matter what. If you let it slip and it's going at that guy's head, that's really dangerous.

Aren't pitchers supposed to instill fear in the batter? So hitting someone doesn't have as much to do with this at bat as much as the next one.

But I didn't even play little league, so I could be totally off base.

The point is to send a message. There is no intent to injure a player.

For example: a guy slides into 2nd base really hard and reckless which could hurt one of my players. If the situation is right it is likely he might wear one in the back.

That's baseball. If you don't like it fine.

                      It's not about 'hurt feelings'

Anyways I won't reply to this any longer. Some people just have different opinions on the matter.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Is it ironic that people are grinding their gears over what other people grind their gears?

                        wait did that make sense?

Either way, intentionally hitting a batter is part of the game.. Just like it's part of the game when in hockey, there are headhunters who are in specifically to fight someone on the other team because of something they did. Or in basketball where a player gives out a flagrant on another player for payback. Or when football players target specific opponents for something they said or did.

It's part of the game. When you're making millions and millions of dollars, you can take the plunk.

Now if it was little league, then it's BS.

At the same time, you can go overboard with paybacks. Going for the head, etc.

I don't totally understand how it's ok for one guy to bean someone intentionally, but other times they'll throw everyone out of the game when it happens (pitcher, batter, managers, etc).

Supposedly intentionally hitting a player is supposed to let players "police the game themselves" and "hold people accountable", but doesn't seem to work...They always end up having to suspend people or eject people anyways...

Just doesn't make sense...Either let them hit each other all the time or just start suspending people way sooner.

Here's how I see it. Hitting someone with a pitch is basically like punching someone. Are there plenty of *******s in everyday life that I'd like to punch? Sure. But do I punch them? No. I'm not violent like that. It would be barbaric.

And that's not to even mention that the odds of me seriously injuring someone by punching then are less than the odds of getting smacked in the head by a rogue pitch. Personally, I think it's stupid and reckless for pitchers to take another man's career into their hands like that.
