I think there is a large group of people who buy HDTVs and never change their service. They just assume its HD.

I remember my sister in law swore their was no difference. She just recently gave the husband the OK to upgrade to the 60" from a 50".

I think the move to a pure digital signal was "good enough" for a lot of people.

Yeah, my parents weren't in a rush to get HD, but when they did (and when they upgraded the cable box) they were in love with the new picture quality....Once they had it themselves they couldn't go back.

I'm glad my parents aren't like many older people. My dad isn't the type that goes out and buys new tech every year, but they got on the HD wagon pretty early. I've had it pretty consistently since I was in high school and that is going on 7-10 years now, somewhere in that range when we got our first nice big screen TV. No HDMI at the time, but it was good enough back then.

My parents aren't bad with tech, just not super early adopters on most stuff. My Dad is into computers, so they keep current there, and they have some tablets and stuff.

It's more just that the TVs have been expensive for a while, so he wasn't going to drop 1k or anything like that. They're frugal

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I forgot to check the thread yesterday but I wanted to add to the SD/HD conversation that was going on. My cable is controlled by my building and it's SD, the landlord is not willing to upgrade. I have two TVs, one SD, one HD. I have two antennas hooked to the HDtv so I still get local programs in HD and also have the PS3 hooked up to the good one. Sunday I had the Lions game (Fox) on the good tv, and the CBS game on the SD screen, which is when I noticed the full screen CBS broadcast. For what it's worth I also had the Tigers game on the computer

edit: Also, forgot to mention my PC is close enough to the good tv (I live in a studio, everything is close), that if I have an HD stream (like through ESPN3 or HULU) I can just connect to the TV and watch that way, with the PC speakers & sub, almost like a poor man's surround setup. Plus Netflix, which I'm practically obsessed with lol

Yeah dude, we all heard it. You don't need to repeat the line 3 seconds after the movie says it.

The only thing I miss about my old apartment in Akron was that the computer and TV were side-by-side so I could have 3 monitors. Put 4 games of MLB up on the TV and if you fiddle with it, I could get 8 college football games going on the monitor. That was heaven.

I'm insulted. No, I know exactly what you mean. Reminds me of my friend who had just gotten a new HDTV, and he hooked up his av cable to the back, and he was like I thought this would look better. LOL I was like, yea that's because you have to hook a hdmi cable to it to get he best picture. And then I did that, and he was blown away.

HD looks great, and I prefer it, and I'd be lying if I said I didn't. But, I just don't think it's as great as people make it out. I can live without it, but I get it when I can.

When the panthers lose, but they waste 3hrs of your life making you think they are going towin. We are now 2-13 in close games.

When you are typing and you are a couple of sentences in. You look up at the screen and you have the CAPS LOCK on.

Well you have a few options here. The easiest is learn how to type and quit chicken pecking where you don't look at the screen. Or...

                              1. Paste in Excel.
                              2. Apply LOWER function.
                              3. Correct first words of sentences.

                              Much faster than rewriting.
