Right on cue the calvary arrives. I'm not discussing this because the character does not revolve around her race or even her hair which I agree was a distinguishing feature of the cartoon. But that's the very point. It's a damn cartoon about a ****ing mermaid. Give me break.

It's 100% that. Does anyone think Disney gives a damn about cultural diversity lol. It's all about getting attention. With idiots on both sides writing articles, and arguing on Twitter making fools of themselves.

The story existed for 150 years before the Disney movie. Who's to say the new one won't also be taking bits from the other interpretations of it?

And uh...any complaints that Melissa McCarthy isn't purple enough to be Ursula? Or some boy isn't fishy enough to be Flounder? Nah? Alright then.

It's really less about this movie for most and more about the continued stupid PC movement to redo classics with minorities

Personally I enjoy the diversity whether it is genuine or not. I really don't understand why remaking a movie without a white person in the lead role is the end of the world but here we are.

remakes in general grind my gears. do a sequel prequel or spin-off. or better yet, write something original. too many people in Hollywood dont belong there.

                      Ear infections and non-tippers.

A 2 month long sinus infection turned into an ear infection; now I’ll be on anti-biotics for the 3rd and 4th straight week. A necessary evil, but I’m just sick and tired of feeling sick and tired.

Someone came to the bar and bought $70 worth of drinks only to not tip one penny.

I mean, people are gonna have a strong opinion when a beloved character from their childhood is portrayed differently. We live in an era where people talk about how Avengers Endgame changed their life, and how a character in Movie B was portrayed ruined their childhood. People have strong opinions about **** that doesn't matter.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

Anyone have a problem with Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury?

I feel like people just use certain things as an excuse. If the actor is diff AND an unknown than how it was written, people freak out. Fury was diff too, but in sure because of who was playing him, people gave it a chance.

Remember Spiderman when they cast Peter to be a HS kid and his aunt is some woman in her 30s or 40s? People went crazy over that too because they've always known Peter as a guy in his 20s or 30s with an aunt who is in her 60s or 70s.

Outrage I see more so in movies. DC TV shows have diff characters than the original and people aren't as mad.

Every era of storytelling uses modern twists. If every story was kept as originals and never adapted with the times, we'd be living in the past and even small things like fairy tales would have the Grimm stories still not suitable for kids. Not sure how true, but I remember in school one of my teachers was telling everyone about the original sleeping beauty and little red riding hood stories, it's definitely not PG that's for sure.

Maybe I'm weird but I never really consider how diverse a cast is. I notice it obviously but it just has no bearing on how much I care about a project. I'm not more likely to see a movie because of a diverse cast but I'm also not outraged that black actors get jobs playing white cartoon characters. I just watch a thing and judge whoever for the performance they put out there.

I totally pre-judged this Little Mermaid news for a second though, because I read the headline as Halle Berry.
