It's hard though...especially when I got my neighbor playing their franchise across the street...maybe I will occupy myself with Glamore Magazine.

I had 3 months of Premium for free that ended on April 30. By May 2nd I wanted Premium back because of the amount of ads so their marketing (3 months free) worked. I got the Premium family plan last week.

I watch YouTube a lot though. A few hours a day so, for me, it's worth it.

You mean YTTV? or regular YouTube? If the latter then this.

I mean regular YouTube, using YouTube Premium.

I don't know enough about what you linked but I'd think you'd still get videos interrupted by ads, no?

Yeah, I had stopped using adblocker for a while but YouTube was the main reason I got ublock origin. Those mid-video ads are the absolute worst and completely ruin the wathing experience.

Then there're the sites that either don't work properly when you're using an ad blcoker or literally force you to turn off your ad blocker and then bombard you with ads ... looking at you weather.com

Dont certain ad blockers work around those stuff? I know adblocker doesn't but I think others can.

At this point, I think sites that block ad blockers are just costing themselves, since more people are likely to just go back/exit over spend time disabling their ad blocker for that one site.

But the amount of ads do get annoying too. Those quick 5 second ads are fine, but the unskippable 15 second ones are annoying.

Although, the worst ones, not YouTube related, are the auto ads from videos. Theres a show I watch that's only available on demand from a channel I subscribe to. Despite that, they have forced ad breaks during the on demand video. On top of that, laws here don't require streaming ads to have a certain decibel level, so they end up louder than the actual show.

2nd worst in terms of ads are those ads which load perfectly fine, but once the ad finishes, the actual video you want to watch doesn't work.

Re: You know what really grinds my gears?

I've had youtube premium since like 2016. If I had to pick one streaming service bill a month to stay with it would be that one. Then again I watch a ton of YouTube.

I always think it's crazy when people say they don't watch YouTube, but they watch Netflix and Hulu all the time. There is so much stuff on YouTube. It's like saying there's nothing to read at the library. Just depends on if you are into more accessible/practical programming like sitcoms or popular movies, as opposed to obscure documentaries, podcasts or 6 hour let's plays.

                  How are they costing themselves?

Most of those same sites also offer a paid version that you can avoid ads. How many times have you wanted to read or something so bad that has these ads that you've decided to go ahead and pay for in order to read? Serious question.

They're not losing anything by you closing out, they have actually already got their click from you so they don't actually care if you read or watch. The number of clicks is what they take to advertising companies.

Ads are annoying, no one will disagree but ad revenue is literally how these companies and their writers get paid. Without it there is no content.

We all hate commercials on TV and radio too but again, those are literally the only thing paying the bills.

If I see something is blocked from reading because of ads, then I just search for the topic on The Twitter or reddit.

Exactly. You're getting less website views. Sure, those views would be ad free, but you're still having more people on your site regardless. If I'm searching something on Google and go to a site that comes up, and it blocks my ad blocker, I'm just going back and going to the next search result.

Again though - how are they costing themselves?

The advertisers already paid them to be there. They are not losing any money themselves by us clicking out and finding another way. (And by clicking in the first place you gave them an additional click they add to their numbers when they give sales propositions).

The more people who visit a site, and the longer they're in a site, impacts how valuable a site can present itself to advertisers.

That isn't true and even Steve has told us about that for OS.

This site only get ad revenue when the ads are seen. Ad blocker is the ultimate enemy to any site and there is no way to pretend that it actually helps sites who don't use it. Most who don't use it either get their revenue elsewhere or need to gain more viewers/followers before they can begin to charge. (See just about any major new publication)

Also, for general knowledge for new adblock/ublock users, you can "whitelist" any site you want which just means that you can voluntary allow ads on any individual site you choose to as a way of supporting that site.
