At this point, I feel like most companies are colluding.


There was a major scandal here several years back where all the bread companies were fixing prices. They got caught, slap on the wrist (compared to the money made from this whole thing). I don't believe this addressed or fixed any problem, and no doubt many companies do the same thing and either never got caught, or just didn't get in trouble.

Although, I never buy drinks unless its part of a combo (or I'm somewhere where I can't bring my own drinks), but I always just bought those multi packs (I think 12-24 in a case). Worked out to like 25-50 cents a can. Much better than $2+ at a vending machine or any food place for the same thing.

Yeah, there’s too much competition for some brands or industries to artificially raise prices. A competitor will undercut you without having to actually slash their own prices. But when they get the rush when everyone switches over, inventory will be gone without an increase in production and we’ll all have to go back to the higher priced brand anyway. It’s not totally just supply and demand, but that is a major factor. I don’t want to discount that corporations are trying to maximize profits at the same time too.

I don’t think people understand how “just in time” everything is these days. And when the world shuts down, a disaster happens, etc that can throw the balance off greatly, and it can have ripple effects way down the line.

I suspect people still don't grasp the consequences of the 2020-2021 stay-at-home orders on everything. To a lot of folks it was little more than just stay at home and get paid, with people even thinking that it was sustainable long term because free stuff and reasons. And now they need someone or something else to blame for inflation, shortages, etc.

People who always seem to have "a thing/situation/emergency" going on where they can't do their regular job hours so then others have to cover for them. Well, enough, I said no today for the first time (after caving MANY times before). I get tired too.

And still, I feel bad for not staying, but I have to look out for my mental sanity too.

That's something I've been doing lately too. I can feel the resentment over me saying no, especially when help is needed, but it's not like I'm not doing my normal stuff already. Worse when it's something like "come in on a Saturday..we'll give you a weekday off".

That doesn't appeal to me. Weekends are weekends. Friday and Saturday nights are stress free and you can enjoy Saturdays the most since you can sleep in AND stay up late.

Working 3 days, get a day off, work 2 more days, get a day off, that's not something I care for. It's still the same hours in a week, but now you can't enjoy your day off because that same day you're already having to think about work the next day.

I feel it. Someone on reddit posted a sign from their job, it was from management saying things like "no, you can't call in sick to get a haircut, you need a doctor's note to call in 3 straight days, no you can't eat our food all day, " in the context of: can you believe these fascists *******s? Smh.

And being the reliable guy who always comes in, never calls out, is always available to be called in, it feels like there's never some great benefit to doing that. It's like you are still on the same level as the unreliables. Unless you are way way more talented. And then you'll start taking extra days off because everyone else is, and eff them lol.

I just wonder how I have students who are constantly sick. I've never missed a day of high school in my life outside of leaving early for sport and district mandates. I'm not saying I'm going to school sick (I have a wicked good immune system), but I'm also not staying home for the sniffles, scheduling appointments during school hours, or outright ditching. If I did, I'd feel like I missed a lot and would do whatever it takes to make it up.

As a teacher though, arranging for a sub is 10x more work than just being there and teaching the material, which is another reason why I wouldn't want any of the aforementioned events to occur either.

I like to go in, scope a seat out, then decide where I wanna sit.
I do not want to be sitting in front of a bunch of teenangels,
or behind someone with a beehive hairdo, or beside some winderlicker.
I want to sit by the normal people. you know, the people not like me

Seems more like an unpopular opinion. I'm so glad they've switched over to assigned seating. Much less of a crapshoot in not getting something you didn't want just because you don't arrive super early. Gone are the days also that I can't sit next to my family or pals in a sold out showing.

I get your overall gripe regarding it and I somewhat echo it, but my only problem I've had so far is when somebody is sitting in my assigned seat. I'm not assertive enough to ask them to get up (I have played dumb saying "Um I think that's my seat maybe?" and I definitely ain't leaving to get an employee to ask them to move. This only causes a real problem if where I decide to sit (assuming nothing changes) is a poor seat or if I end up sitting in someone else's seat who arrives after me. This kind of problem occurs more at stadiums though.

In 2023 this is some real torture. I was staying at a hotel and had limited options for TV.

I'm curious if it's a proven fact that they cut to commercial more often and for longer now than back in, say, the 1990s.

In 2023 this is some real torture. I was staying at a hotel and had limited options for TV.

It has to be.

The fact that old shows can air on rerun but we might have a scene/part of a scene or the intro edited out should be all the proof you need that they air more commercials.

And don't get me started on watching movies on TV with the amount of editing networks do to get it down to their 3 hour timeslot. Different networks seem to edit differently too which makes it weirder.

I'll use Raw as an example since I can easily find official runtimes of the show.

3 hours nowadays, but it's really just 2 hours and 5 mins when you remove the tv commercial breaks. Go back 5 years ago, the same show was 2 hours and 15 minutes. The pre 3 hour days the shows were 1.5 hours.

So that's proof that it's 10 minutes shorter just from a few years ago, and despite adding a whole extra hour to the broadcast, they're only putting out 35 minutes of extra content.

I just saw a movie that was on TV recently that edited so many things out of it to speed up its runtime. I forget which it was but I'll edit it in this post if I remember.

I don't like when they have scenes involving some sort of music and they decide to alter the tempo of the scene as well.

Yep. I always go back to randomly watching Blues Brothers on "TV One" and they cut the mall car chase for time. Had to bring it up on Youtube to show my brother who was watching it with me .


It's why when Comcast was giving Peacock away for "Free" if you had a cable sub I tried to watch BSG and couldn't make it past the commercial breaks.

Then you get movies where they actually add scenes that weren't in the normal theatrical version to fit into the right runtime, typically it's comedies. The Naked Gun and Uncle Buck are two that usually have extra scenes.
