Twats at sporting events who don't shut the **** up. If I gave a **** about anything remotely involving you, I'd ask you. Keep your conversations to a minimum you whore, I'm trying to pay attention to the game.

I chanted that at Landon Donovan almost all night, so it was the first word that came to mind for my post.

Did everyone join in? Or were you just standing there yelling it alone and looking like a crazy person?

Mostly the latter. My friend and I were the only ones booing/mocking Donovan.

Some douchebags got in my face for cheering Jozy Altidore's goal.

Sure you may know your junk is clean if you shower each day (I do) but you can't know someone else's hasn't washed in a month. You also can't know they do not have some sort of cold or sickness that you are going to touch your eyes or mouth with later and get sick from it.
I agree with all of this, but you miss my point, which is that the bathroom is no more so a germ haven than is any number of other, less conspicuous locations. That hypothetical guy you're talking about who hasn't washed in a month? He isn't exactly a 'bathroom-only' phenomenon; he's just as likely to be the last guy to touch that dollar bill in your wallet or a DVD box you pick up at Best Buy as he is to be the dreaded 'bathroom man'.

Go ahead and accuse me of putting myself on a pedestal because of my habits but the truth is they work for me. I haven't been sick once this year and rarely ever get sick at all where others around me who aren't quite so careful get sick far more frequently. Also, I don't know how many more scientific studies have to be released about hygiene and washing your hands that prove you are better off health wise to do so but then you Wolverines fans aren't known as the most hygenic of creatures in the first place (oh yes I went there as Stewie from Family Guy would say) so it's just in your nature.
Yeah, yeah. Seriously, my point is pretty simple: germs are everywhere. Money, perhaps the best example, is filthy - do you run to wash your hands after you touch it? I didn't think so. Your armpits and feet are better harborers for germs than your crotch-region, do you hurry and wash your hands after you clip your toenails?

All I'm saying is that visits to the bathroom are not some explicitly dirty, nasty thing that in any way 'requires' a handwash. Hell, a MythBusters episode proved that a toothbrush left in a non-bathroom had as much fecal matter on it as a toothbrush left in a bathroom. Chew on that one.

Now that I won't brush my teeth again, thanks. Oh well, alcohol will clean them well.

Good point and you are right. And I do wash my hands after handling things as you describe, it just is not one of those "you know what really grinds my gears? when people touch things at best buy or their money".

Yes, anytime after I handle money I wash my hands. Fortunately 99% of my transactions are with a debit card though.

Yes, things left out and about can have germs, no doubt. It's just that the bathroom is specifically a place to wash up and yet many people don't take the opportunity to and should.

                      It is.

Everytime you wash your hands, you are removing some beneficial germs. The more you wash, the more germs you get rid of.

Not all those germs are beneficial though. You need to wash your hands from time to time, but just dont go over the top with it.

Yeah, I don't wash my hands constantly, only after handling something as has been mentioned above that mandates it (my God i'm still reeling that someone would clip their freakin' toenails and not wash their hands afterward, how disgusting is that?!). And I doubt my immune system is weaker because of it. As I have said, I have been sick probably twice in the last 10-15 years and that has been very mild (I have not missed work because of sickness). The only sickness I ever get on occasion is when I stay up too late drinking and that's not a germ or immune system issue.

As I said there have been numerous studies confirming hand washing as being a very important line of defense against getting sick.

London - Hand-washing with just soap and water is a simple and effective way to stunt the spread of respiratory viruses, from everyday cold viruses to deadly pandemic strains, researchers said on Wednesday.

Keeping hands clean is also particularly important for protecting children and to reduce the chances they could pass viruses to other family members, the researchers said.

Writing in the Cochrane Library journal, Tom Jefferson of the Rome-based Cochrane Collaboration and colleagues said they analysed 51 different clinical studies.

The findings underscore recommendations from the World Health Organisation and the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention about the benefits of hand washing to limit transmission of viruses.
