Such a horrible situation for everyone there.I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

I hope our San Diego residents on OS stay safe. I just hope it doesn't reach Palm Springs, since it's so dry out here.I write things on the Internet.

That's pretty much the same view here, Fly.
It was ridiculous at math on Monday though, the sun was covered up by smoke, so it was like orangish-gray outside, it was bizarre.Blind to this impending fate

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
I just drove back up to Santa Barbara (hometown). A lot of people left on my dorm floor, and I heard that there's an estimation of 910,000 people fleeing San Diego County.
It was crazy seeing a ring of smoke around us. I pray to God that things will be fine down there.Comment

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
Yeah, took a 10:00 flight out. I was going to go earlier, but my parents didn't have their cell phones with them when it was first announced. They finally called back at like 6:00 last night, and everything was a rush from there.

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
These fires have been crazy. My family and I were evacuated Monday because of the Witch Creek Fire. We came home last night, but I didn't take the time to post because I was keeping an eye out for any developments in the Carmel Valley/Del Mar area. They finally gave our area the green light earlier this morning.
Sunday, I knew something was up at around 2 in the afternoon when I saw smoke while my family and a few friends were out at lunch in Tierrasanta. I got home and the whole Carmel Valley area was filled with smoke from the Witch Creek Fire. It was really windy that night and into Monday. There was a tree that was uprooted in nearby Del Mar Heights Rd, blocking one westbound lane. Stayed in La Jolla Monday and Tuesday, but it's a relief to have a little bit of clearness here in the Carmel Valley area, even though I can still see smoke coming from the Northeast.
I didn't even bother going to SDSU Monday morning even though I had a midterm and it was supposed to be a crucial week for all four of my classes. I was disappointed they didn't cancel classes on Monday to begin with, so I missed three classes. Fortunately it seems like everything may be pushed back, but I hate to see this kind of stuff happen.
It is like 2003 all over again maybe even worse than the 2003 fires here in San Diego. I feel sorry for those who lost their homes and bless all those firefighters braving these fires.
Edit: Just to give you all updates, there were a ton of fires here in San Diego alone, and I know there are more elsewhere in Southern California. Two of the fires were contained (Coronado Hills, McCoy Fire), Witch Creek and Harris Fires are still burning (eastward I believe), Rice Fire is also threatening to merge with a fire in the neighboring north county. There are three fires in Camp Pendleton (leading to I-5 to be closed for some time this morning). Poomacha Fire is near the Palomar Mountain area. They fear that Poomacha and Witch Creek fires may merge. Witch Creek already merged with the San Pascual Fire on Monday.Last edited by BatsareBugs; 10-24-2007, 11:47 PM.Comment

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
Im in Laguna, and the smoke has spread everywhere by me from the Camp Pendleton and Foothill Ranch fires. My friends house was 100 feet from the Foothill fire but thankfully passed him by.
The sun was a reddish-orange color today because of all the smoke, and the air smells terrible.
Im trying to stay indoors at this point. The winds have died down a bit from the past few days by me, not sure how it is other places. Its supposed to cool off tomorrow so well see.Angels World Series Championships : 2002

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
I'll wait and see. I know I heard they arrested a suspected arson and back in 2003, a hunter was the one who started the Cedar Fire.Comment

Re: SOCAL Wildfires
From what i've heard the arsonist only started one fire but it quickly spread. Still, that's pretty crazy stuff. I don't know why someone would be foolish enough to start a forest fire during the California fire season.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club
