      Re: "We"

I say we. I don't care if people don't like it. It's just a figure of speech. It's not like I'm acting like I played for the team or have any part in "us" winning or losing.

Having lived here my whole life, having graduated this year, having put so much of my soul into it.......I don't think there is anything wrong with saying we when I refer to my team.

I try not to say it all of the time but occasionally I do. So what.

Why does it bother people so much???? It always bothers me more when a fan lives in New York and roots for a team like USC. You know, the bandwagon fan. They have never been to the city their team plays in, heck, they may of never been to the state, yet these people say "we" like they have some kind of association with the team. At least I went to the school I am a fan of.

What about Waco TX and a Niners fan. I've been a fan since I was 8. Sure I jumped on the wagon when I was a kid, I knew no better and no one else was really a football fan around me. I am 26 now and still a fan through thick and thin.

I sometimes say we and us as well.

I've never understood that. I've liked the Jaguars for 12 years. Does that make me a bandwagon jumper? The STL Cardinals for 10ish. Does that make me a bandwagon jumper?

If I were going to be fan of my "hometown" team, I'd like the Redskins and the Orioles. No thanks.

My opinions aren't invalid just because my favorite teams are spread across the country. In fact, I think it's really ridiculous to expect everyone to like the hometown team. I don't jump bandwagons much, but I sure as hell don't like the Redskins or Orioles.

For being a person in NY, who can I root for from my state?

                Syracuse?
                Buffalo?

I became a Michigan fan after my brother turned me onto them. Just because I live in New York, doesn't mean I can't root for a team outside my state's borders.

No I'm talking about people who don't live in the state, don't go to the school, and haven't been been in the state for any period of time(outside of a weekend visit)yet they're fans of the team. I can understand pro teams but it doesn't make sense for college at least in my opinion.

                    Oh, alright.

I've never lived in Michigan, nor do I go to UofM. I do however visit my aunt and uncle who live in Ann Arbor, anually. My Aunt graduated UofM in '77 and she turned my brother into a fan before I was born. Then my brother turned me into a Michigan fan when I was young.

Well, I go to Alabama, so we is appropriate.

But I also say we when referring to the Cleveland Indians and the Tampa Bay Bucs. I don't say it that much with Nebraska.

I agree. I say it all the time too. I don't understand the people who find the need to correct those who do say "we".

                            Re: "We"

What annoys me is when the team is doing well and people refer to them as 'we', but when the team isn't doing so hot and they say 'they'. If you're gonna do it, at least stick by it.

That said, I can't stand when people say it. I can understand if you are an alum, grew up watching them, you moved as a kid, etc. but a Patriots fan living in Phoenix when they have no connections to the Pats saying 'we' is flat-out annoying as hell.

I don't agree with this at all.

I've lived in the St. Louis area my entire life but the only St. Louis sports team I'm a fan of is the Cardinals (I follow the Blues but I'm by no means a fan). I was a Browns fan before St. Louis ever had the Rams, and I didn't quit being a Browns fan because St. Louis got a team. I've been a Boston Celtics fan for as long as I can remember, became a diehard when they drafted Antoine Walker who I was a big fan of while he played at Kentucky. College I'm loyal to the state team, then in hockey I'm a Blackhawks fan even though I live much closer to the Blues.

I don't see how living somewhere should mean you have to be a fan of that team. Bandwagoning is one thing, but you can live anywhere and be a fan of anyone, just keep the loyalty with the team.
