Re: So Who Else Doesn't do the Flesh Thing

I knew this girl that became a vegetarian for the DUMBEST reason.

She was @ Boston market once and her chicken was still bleeding. So she said to herself, "You know what, I don't have to eat this."

And she has been a "vegetarian" ever since.

I was a vegetarian for six years. I was very, very healthy during that time. The main thing is to take vitamins, particularly Vitamin B. To really get the diet properly is a little expensive though, because non meat sources of protein are more expensive.

Why is that a dumb reason? She found meat undesirable and decided to try life without it. It's not like she got surgery or something.

Born, how was life as a vegetarian? If you remember. And what made you come back to the dark side?

Because she could have very well boycotted Boston market instead of giving up it all at once. I just think it was an over-reaction. Sorry for calling it dumb.

Guess you'll have to hang with the pescetarians (vegetarians who eat eggs and fish).

Just be careful to keep your consumption frequency down on deep sea fish rich in Nitrogens (Salmon, Mahi-Mahi, Shark, Tuna, etc). There are actually websites out there that let you plug in what fish you want to eat that day and it will tell you how soon you can eat another fish rich in Nitrogens.

                Vitamin B= Vitamin B12?

Also those animals and native plants that live in those forests that are being cut down, who knows what that's doing to the habitat.

I still may keep fish in my diet after some consideration and discussion with a former food and nutrition professor.
I don't have a moral disgust for people that don't eat meat. I just think it's misguided for some of the reasons you listed. It sounds like you're more angry at cheap farmers trying to cut costs. Keeping cows in pens and gorging on grain is cheaper that maintaining a range. Many people also hate walmart, but keep shopping at other stores. Lead painted toys haven't kept people from buying other toys. There's always an alternative out there less extreme than this.

There's plenty of ways to get meat from cows that were raised eating natural, organic grass in fields. They don't get as much infections or diseases as ones raised in stables.

Yeah definitely, I'll probably only have fish twice a week as it's recommended to only take two servings per week.

I think it's B12. Whatever 'B' is found in chicken is the one the doctor was referring to.

DC: Life as a vegetarian was easy breezy. I didn't really lose weight or anything, but I think it's easy to stay healthy on the right kind of veggie diet. It was decent though. I stopped for a few reasons. I got what I wanted out of it, I wanted an easier route to the vitamins, and I wanted to start putting on some real weight. I was working out at the time, and I wanted to get some more muscle on my frame and get up to about 215. I ended up stopping at 210, because at 6 feet, that was bigger than I expected to be. Once I was back into meat, I just stuck with it, because I didn't feel any adverse effects.

I didn't feel that alleged nausea people feel when they go back to meat, not even for pork. I think that's psychosomatic. I just felt like I had more protein in me, lol.

Born can you tell me what vitamins you took for those six years, and what dosage each had? A friend suggested that I take an iron supplement and a multi vitamin.

                          And now you're suggesting a B-12 vitamin.

I was watching aminal planet last night and I saw an orangutan, which are vegetarian, eat a live catfish. He just reached in the water, got it out and started eating it. That right there is proof, if you have access to meat, you should eat it.

I didn't take any, I did it wrong

But I was only 18 when I started, so I didn't feel any adverse effects. I think a multivitamin will suffice for the most part. I also didn't eat fish. No meat at all, cold turkey, right before Thanksgiving, lol.
