    Re: Moving to Texas

Wow, BS....where do you live? How are the areas of Grapevine and Lewisville that you mentioned? Safe and clean? Where do they fall in the level of nice areas?

If you (or anyone else) could give me a "ranking" of the good areas to live in the Dallas area, that would be great. Comparisons, pros-cons, etc.

I want to gauge the Dallas area compared to areas like Denver, Portland, Phoenix, Seattle, etc in terms of everything.

In a story only interesting to me, I don't think I could ever live in the South.

I would say Lewisville and Grapevine rank in the top 5 as the safest! Not to mention 96% of the women in that area are fine! Rich or Wealthy! And interracial dating isn't an issue!

You never hear of many if any crimes happening in these areas.
And its the first part of Dallas, where you won't hate the police, but probably will stop and talk to them. lol

        To definitely Top 5

How would those areas compare to places like Frisco, Plano, and McKinney? Another thing I meant to ask is that if you're living in a city/suburb, are there "worse" and "better" neighborhoods within each individual suburb? I know here in LA we have different suburbs with nice areas that are south of a particular street, etc.

Assuming how most everything is different in Texas, I assume no matter where you go within a particular suburb, they pretty much share the same particular characteristics.

Frisco is nice, but its too far from everything and you have to go through too many tow ways to get to Dallas Area. I don't like Plano, too many police issues, and cost of living is ridiculous. If a 1 bedroom apt. is $795 a month imagine a house!

Don't know about McKinney, can't knock it or speak high of it, don't go there!

My area is quiet and peaceful, and I've left my street racer and my regular car unlocked many nights and never any issues. And I've been here 3 years! In this area!

I live in Irving. Don't worry. DFW is made up of transplants. You'll fit right in. One of my favorite sports radio shows is hosted by a guy from Wisconsin and a guy from Cleveland, OH.

I've spent about a month down in the Houston area, more specifically Katy, Texas. One of my best friends moved down there in junior high and I spent about a month with him down there. The area of Katy he was from at least, was mostly transplants. His neighborhood was pretty much all people from the midwest. Everybody was pretty friendly to me, but I really doubt anybody would have picked on a 12 year old kid. I really liked it down there. It helped that my friend lived in an AWESOME neighborhood and the surrounding area was pretty well off.

We also definitely don't agree with the politics and values of the city. We also like cooler, rainy weather during the winter months. We've dealt with immense heat though living in Fresno for so long, where temps in the summer would routinely get over 105.

We pay $3200 a month for a house in a nice area but that is a piece of crap house. It's breaking down and its just not worth living here.

We don't have anything tying us down here except family, and I don't think thats as legitimate a reason considering a lot of our family is also OUTSIDE of the LA area as well.

I've been pushing for the Frisco/McKinney/Plano-level areas in the Dallas area because you can get an amazing house down there for 1500-2000 a month.

Not to hijack the thread of course because the info I'm asking for is also beneficial to ZitoMulder. I was down in Dallas for 2 weeks back in 1998 when I was 10 and absolutely loved it. The quality of people there seemed to be almost too good to be true. Everyone was so nice and accomodating. The area was spread out and clean and the food was delicious. There was also no lack of things to do.

My question to you guys is, what is there that a family looking to move out of the LA area to possibly the Dallas area would need to know? How are the safety and schools in the areas I've mentioned? Are there other nice neighborhoods besides Frisco/Plano/McKinney? We're worried about safety and quality of living first. How is traffic down there? Can't be as bad as LA, can it? Is it easy to get places? What about getting to Downtown Dallas from a suburb?

There are a lot of things I'd be interested in and I'm sure ZitoMulder would love any impressions you guys can give as well.
There are plenty of nice areas. Highland Village, Lewisville is decent (has some ghetto parts but nothing like LA) Flower Mound which sometimes get called the California of Denton County. Southlake is full of rich people. My roommates would know more because one of them has lived here her whole life and her husband is a fireman, so if you have any specific questions let me know.

Grapevine Mills sucks, especially on Saturday. I have to work my fat lazy tail off. Lewisiville is pretty nice, it's far enough away to get a break from Dallas but close enough to where it's no problem to go to Stars games or any other event (especially if you take the train).

Far from it, I'm not a kid, so I don't add to your pain! Nor do I go to grapevine mills to hang out! I go to buy stuff!

Not sure where you are moving from but you may be a little taken back at how big the D/FW area will be. In the north the citys build up, in Texas they just grow out. It is extremely spread out here.
Thats is one thing that I have heard is how spread out everything is. How bad is the traffic there? Typical metro traffic or worse.

only fault with Texas is the women in some areas are beautiful trash! meaning all the fine ones are either gold diggers or hoes! lose lose situation. You have to go to areas like Grapevine, Lewisville and Plano to get a good one!

And for advice coming from a brotha! Don't move to oak cliff or south Dallas and you'll be good! [QUOTE]

I think its basically my paranoia about moving down South. Well the part about the women kinda sucks. I make good money but not enough to be attracting gold diggers. Now the hoe thing on the other hand kind of intrigues me.
