    Re: Moving to Texas

Yeah if you don't move to Oak Cliff you're good... Grapevine and Lewisville is not too bad... good people from there.

As for the Fort Worth/Dallas/Arlington/Irving area... yeah it's pretty much all four... you do get all those good sports teams and Austin is only 2 hours away. The expense of living is EXTREMELY low compared to where I come from, and when that dude said you don't have to bring a snow shovel... that's true, but no joke... even if you're staying one week in Texas, you should pack a Snow jacket and a swimsuit... the weather is terribly unpredictable here.

The music scene if pretty dire but everyone is into that getting krunk music and snap music... the only good thang is that chopped and screwed.

You WILL start saying y'all... whether you like it or not.

TCU is in Fort Worth... and I'm 100% happy that I go here.

      Re: Moving to Texas

I'm also from NY and didn't know anyone coming down either... everyone is friendly...

also, the city has jumped from the 35th largest city to the 17th in just a matter of half a decade.

This is a good place man.

The one bad thing is all the crying Mavs and Cowboys fans when their team gets "upset" (every non-DFW native knew they would lose)... pompous bastards with their sports teams.

        Re: Moving to Texas

I love San Antonio it's by far my favorite city in Texas. I am heading there tomorrow actually. Sure it's not big on sports, but other than that it's a lovely city to me. Traffic seems a lot worse in DFW and Austin area then in San Antonio, at least from my experience.

Plus they have the best mexican resturant in Texas.

        Mi Tierra is so good.

2 hours? How fast do you drive? It's at least 3.5 hours away

oh yeah, I remember telling everyone at work how the Cowboys weren't going to the superbowl and if by some chance they made it they were going to lose. Of course they all said I was crazy because the team was 11-1 or something, but oh well. I just remember laughing when I saw all the Cowboys fans at the mall when I was working that Sunday.

              Re: Moving to Texas

Moved to the DFW from Chicago almost 5 years ago. Never thought I could care about another baseball team more than the Cubs and now I'm a huge Rangers fan. People are very friendly here, cost of living is good, lots of good places to eat and overall good sports (still not a Mavs fan but am a big Rangers & have gotten into the Cowboys).

We live near the Lewisville/Flower Mound area and really like it. Not too far from Dallas, close to the airport and good neighborhoods.

If you're a baseball fan and want to hit some games PM me. I have season tickets for the Rangers and sometimes am looking for someone to take to the game 'cause other friends can't go (that offer is good for anyone else from the DFW area too). Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about moving too.

Also, I've been here almost 5 years and have never said ya'll!

oh heck yeah buddy, I love baseball, and I live too close to you. If you got extra tickets and need someone to go with (especially when the Braves come to town) hit me up. My roomies and I go to the Village all the time to go shopping.

                  - Along with pro sports, you will find the best HS football in the country in the DFW area. You will probably drive by some stadiums and wonder what college that is, you wrong, that's a High School .....The Texas Rangers stadium is just called "Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.", it's a very nice stadium and if it wasn't an hour drive for me I would go more often even though I hate baseball.....The American Airlines center is great to, definetely would have to catch a mavericks game when you get down here.....Texas Stadium sucks, but if you have a chance to go to a High School playoff triple header do it. Get some super bowl nachos, you will never want to eat anything else again.

If you don't mind answering, about how much do you make, or have going towards rent/house payments?

If you are rich, North Dallas is where you want to be. Highland Park is a few minutes from downtown, along with Preston Hollow. That is where you find your million and billionaires and Dallas Mavericks roster.

There is a big array of town. Do you want to live in a 50,000 pop city, or a 5-15k city? Close or far away from downtown?

If you can post the list of areas the lady finds for you when she gets it

Just had a meeting with my relocation agent earlier this morning to go over some of the places she has found for me period. I seem to be leaning toward an apartment in the Southlake area. Its a really nice two bedroom apartment which listed for 1300 a month. I have to let her know by next Monday for sure, but thats the place I'm leaning towards right now.

Southlake is nice. It's one of the richer towns arounds DFW. They are also of course home of the Southlake Carroll Dragons, so come August the town will turn green and on friday nights you will be able to rob every store blind.

You will be about 25 miles away from the American Airlines Center and Ballpark in Arlington to.

Where in Dallas are you working?

Southlake is a really nice area. Like ollie mentioned it's also a rich town, I heard on one of the Dragons broadcasted games that the average income per person there was like $120,000 or so.

Not sure of the exact location, but its within 5 minutes of downtown. Of course not counting traffic.

                          Re: Moving to Texas

OK, here's the scoop. I've lived here since 1986.

I live in Southlake (as mentioned above), but I'm older and established by now. It's a little pricey, and not for you if you're still young probably. If you're older, married and all that, look at Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine. Pat Summerall lives in Southlake, by the way, as do a lot of pro athletes throughout this four-ciy area.

You will be shocked at how nice of a house you can get for so cheap. A $1 million home in DFW would cost you $4-5 million in California.

Yes, people are really this nice. They are not making fun of you or your accent. They are actually wondering if you're having a nice day.

Catch some high school sports. You know about football, but DFW is a hotbed for the top baseball, soccer, basketball, and now HOCKEY talent in the country. Even girls sports are huge. It isn't uncommon to see 8-10 starters on an ACC girls soccer team that are from Texas.

Learn ya'll. It's a great word that encompasses so much.

Traffic can suck here. Try to live close to work unless you have kids. Great schools in the north suburbs (and the ones listed above).

If you are not married, CONGRATULATIONS, BUDDY!! I've been all over this country, and nowhere have I seen as many quality hot women as in DFW and Austin, Texas. It's staggering. Four hot girls to every good looking guy. That leaves plenty of spillover for the average Joe. Only Phoenix comes close, though Oxford, MS is a surprisingly up there, too. You've got to go to Southlake Town Center on a Saturday and walk around outside. Women everywhere (though some are 16 and look 26, so be careful).

The area is not scenic, but there's a great vibe in Dallas. People get things done. Everything is done top notch. It's competitive, but there are a ton of good jobs.

The sports are awesome, but the Cowboys do rule the area spotlight.

Stay out of Texas-Texas A&M discussions. Trust me.

You can get anywhere in a single flight, and it's cheaper flying from DFW.

You MUST attend at least one OU-Texas game.

I could go on and on. Wonderful place to live, and affordable, too.

ERod, where do you rank areas like Frisco and Plano in comparison to where you live? We have a 10 year old boy and an 8 year old girl in the family and are greatly (mostly) concerned about what they're brought up like and their environment.
