If you are not married, CONGRATULATIONS, BUDDY!! I've been all over this country, and nowhere have I seen as many quality hot women as in DFW and Austin, Texas. It's staggering. Four hot girls to every good looking guy. That leaves plenty of spillover for the average Joe. Only Phoenix comes close, though Oxford, MS is a surprisingly up there, too. You've got to go to Southlake Town Center on a Saturday and walk around outside. Women everywhere (though some are 16 and look 26, so be careful).

Don't get the man's hopes up. You only notice because you live in Southlake. I live in Keller and have lived in Florida, and trust me Texas isn't that great for the ladies. I'd put it right after pretty much anywhere in Florida though, because if you do go around the Southlake and Colleyville areas there are some really hot girls.

No. It's enjoy being able to be outside all day and just warm enough to hop in a pool, then the next day it snowing 8 inches, and 2 days later it's 75 again.

OK, here's the scoop. I've lived here since 1986.

I live in Southlake (as mentioned above), but I'm older and established by now. It's a little pricey, and not for you if you're still young probably. If you're older, married and all that, look at Keller, Southlake, Colleyville, Grapevine. Pat Summerall lives in Southlake, by the way, as do a lot of pro athletes throughout this four-ciy area.

You will be shocked at how nice of a house you can get for so cheap. A $1 million home in DFW would cost you $4-5 million in California.

Yes, people are really this nice. They are not making fun of you or your accent. They are actually wondering if you're having a nice day.

Catch some high school sports. You know about football, but DFW is a hotbed for the top baseball, soccer, basketball, and now HOCKEY talent in the country. Even girls sports are huge. It isn't uncommon to see 8-10 starters on an ACC girls soccer team that are from Texas.

Learn ya'll. It's a great word that encompasses so much.

Traffic can suck here. Try to live close to work unless you have kids. Great schools in the north suburbs (and the ones listed above).

The area is not scenic, but there's a great vibe in Dallas. People get things done. Everything is done top notch. It's competitive, but there are a ton of good jobs.

The sports are awesome, but the Cowboys do rule the area spotlight.

Stay out of Texas-Texas A&M discussions. Trust me.

You can get anywhere in a single flight, and it's cheaper flying from DFW.

You MUST attend at least one OU-Texas game.

I could go on and on. Wonderful place to live, and affordable, too.

Just got back from my first trip to the Lone Star State to do some training for my new job and to try and learn the area a little bit at the same time. Seems like a nice place and its definitely a little warmer this time of year than I'm used to. Also looked at some apartments and I am about positive that I'm going to get the one in Southlake.

All in all I had a wonderful trip and I'm looking forward to coming back permanently in a couple weeks.

You will quickly find Dallas has some of the worst/most selfish drivers in the country. I was going down the highway in North Dallas, it's about 40 feet above the service road below and has a grass embankment atleast at a 60 degree angle. There was a guy in a little car driving up the side of it, came onto the shoulder and merged into traffic. It was the craziest thing I had ever seen.

And learn to not use your blinker. Turning on your blinker causes people to speed up and get in front of you. If you have to get over fast just do it.

Sorry to jump in late here, but I can add some things.

First, I'm surprised to see two other posters on OS from Keller of all places.

Anyway, you've kind of already gotten a picture of Southlake, which I guess is where you're looking. Southlake is good because, while I consider it a Ft. Worth suburb, it isn't too far from Dallas and it is pretty easy to get on the major highways to get to either Fort Worth or Dallas.

Matrix, really the differences between Frisco, Plano, McKinney etc. and Southlake, Grapevine, Colleyville and Keller etc. are minimal. The first group is closer to Dallas, the second to Fort Worth. All of them have good schools, mostly nice neighborhoods, etc. Frisco has Pizza Hut Park, which is nice if you're a soccer fan.

I have lived in the Metroplex for around 7 years now after moving from Kansas. Let me know if anybody has any questions.

ERod, where do you rank areas like Frisco and Plano in comparison to where you live? We have a 10 year old boy and an 8 year old girl in the family and are greatly (mostly) concerned about what they're brought up like and their environment.

You'd like Frisco, though it's further out than most suburbs. Plano is getting some age on it, but still nice. You should look at Keller, Grapevine, and Flower Mound, too. On the south side, there are areas in Mansfield are nice.

Just avoid Dallas, Fort Worth, Irving, and a lot of the older areas if you have kids. They aren't dangerous really, but the city councils are so locked down in infighting and racial divide, nothing gets done that impacts you and your family. The schools vastly improve once you get into the better suburbs, too.
