    Re: Moving to Texas

I live there as well, and I don't think anyone moving here will do anything but enjoy themselves. Anything you can imagine is going to be within an hour of you no matter where you are. Another nice area that I haven't seen mentioned is the Keller/Northern Fort Worth area. It's been built up a lot in the last few years and there are some nice houses being built around there. If you plan on living in the nicer areas I'd look up Southlake and Colleyville.

Also I saw Frisco and Plano mentioned. Both are nice areas but they are kind of outt there by themselves and it might take a nice drive if you're trying to find a specific store or something.

The same person who was in charge of my last relocation is in charge of this one as well. So I feel pretty confident that she will find some good places for me to chose from. I couldn't be happier with the job she did the first time.

        Re: Moving to Texas

I spent four years in Fort Worth and loved it (born and raised in the Midwest - fit in fine). One thing I will echo from a previous poster is that you WILL use the word y'all, even if you don't want to (but you will learn to love it). DFW is a huge area and there are lots of suburbs, etc., so that there is something that caters to any individual. Fort Worth had a slightly smaller (but it's not small) and more "cultured" (hard to explain) feel than Dallas (more of a big-city feel) and was great to live in.

You will want to consider the location of your work because the commute from FW to Dallas is not insignificant (only about 30-40 miles but traffic can be bad).

Other than that, the weather is great, the restaurants are phenomenal, the sports scene is fantastic, the people are friendly, the standard of living is low, the job market is up, I really can't say enough.

I have no idea who told you the things that have made you worried, but I would ignore that. I went down there not knowing a soul and came to love the place so quickly that my head spun. I will consider making Fort Worth a permanent residence the day I finally do get to pick where to live (if that ever happens).

Put it this way - I never met anyone down there that DIDN'T like it. And many of the people that were down there "temporarily" ended up staying when they had the choice. Many of those that had to leave came back.

Good luck! If I were you... I'd be really excited... haha

LOL i can tell you that is BS man. That shouldnt be a problem at all.

There are obviously exceptions, like anywhere else, but that is not the way it is for the most part. There are quite a few transplants in Texas, especially the DFW area.

Most people dont care if your originally from Texas or not. It's one of the more friendly states overall actually.

Had a friend move to Texas from Canada, and he never experienced that! Rumor is probably false, I hope people don't act that way.

              Re: Moving to Texas

I have lived in Texas for the past 5 years, moved from Denver. The people here are nothing but nice and will go out of their way to help you fit in. I lived in Grapevine for the first 2 years and now live in Keller. Love the area and it's 5 miles from Texas Motor Speedway which is great for me since I like NASCAR. It's not to far from Dallas and 20 minutes at the most away from DFW. Cost of living is great and the best part is no state income tax! Property taxes are a lot higher then they were in Denver but it's well worth it. One thing I was not use to is watering your house foundation and foundation problems in general. Never heard of it till I moved out here. Anyway, I am so glad I decided to move here after college and I don't see myself ever leaving. You can have country and big city all within 1 hour.

The more I think about it, the more I think someone from Oklahoma started this rumor, so the rumor is somewhat true.

If you've never spent a lot of time down in Texas you'll find out a lot of things really quickly.
                    • You'll learn how to use the word y'all very quickly. Before you know it you'll start using it without even knowing it.
                    • You're going to learn a new kind of 'hot' weather. You think you've been in 'hot' weather before but you haven't. You A/C unit will become your life line and you'll forget what a heater is used for.
                    • You can go ahead a leave your snow shovel at your current residence when you move. You won't need it. Dallas gets one snow/sleet day every winter and the city basically shuts down.
                    • The people down south are overly nice, something I don't find too often here in the badger state.
                    • Sports are everywhere, especially in DFW. Dallas Stars, Dallas Cowboys, Texas Rangers, and the Dallas Mavericks. There's also arena football, indy wrestling, whatever you desire.
                    • If you think Chi Chi's is good mexican/tex mex food then you have no idea what you have in store for yourself. Frijoles over by Six Flags is the first place my wife and I go when we go back home to visit my family. Colter's BBQ, Sonic, Whataburger, Black Eye Pea, just too many to list. There's alot of good food in DFW that I just can't get here up north.

I could just keep going here but I wish I were in your shoes. And if you're a baseball fan do yourself a favor and go see a Rangers game at Ameriquest Field; it's a beautiful field. They might not field a great team but you'll get used to that.

                    - You also have to get used to it being 70 on day, and 30 the next. Just yesterday me and my friends were outside getting sunburned and in our pool filming a movie. Today it's snowing...

                    - Along with pro sports, you will find the best HS football in the country in the DFW area. You will probably drive by some stadiums and wonder what college that is, you wrong, that's a High School .....The Texas Rangers stadium is just called "Rangers Ballpark in Arlington.", it's a very nice stadium and if it wasn't an hour drive for me I would go more often even though I hate baseball.....The American Airlines center is great to, definetely would have to catch a mavericks game when you get down here.....Texas Stadium sucks, but if you have a chance to go to a High School playoff triple header do it. Get some super bowl nachos, you will never want to eat anything else again.

                    - You will gain 50 lbs on Sonic and Whataburger. Sonic has thousands of different soft drink and frozen drink/shakes combination a long with you normal hamburger fast food selection.

If you don't mind answering, about how much do you make, or have going towards rent/house payments?

If you are rich, North Dallas is where you want to be. Highland Park is a few minutes from downtown, along with Preston Hollow. That is where you find your million and billionaires and Dallas Mavericks roster.

There is a big array of town. Do you want to live in a 50,000 pop city, or a 5-15k city? Close or far away from downtown?

If you can post the list of areas the lady finds for you when she gets it

Don't know alot about living in D/FW. But I live in Austin, and IMO, it's the best city in the world!

I've always wanted to get a job in Texas and move there after college, it's seemed so appealing. I always wanted to go to San Antonio though, mainly because of Fiesta Texas.

Today I was stuck in LA traffic coming to work @ 3pm (not even "rush" hour) and I was on the verge of tears because I wanted to get out of here so bad.

I asked myself, "How the hell could anyone actually WANT to live here?"

.....In the hour it took me to drive 10 miles, I found no answer to my question.

I wouldn't want to live in San Antonio. It's a nice tourist city with the alamo, the river walk which is really cool and seaworld. The only team they have is the spurs, even then the city isn't that big on them. They didn't even sell out the WCF last year, likewise every game in Dallas all season was sold out within a day.
