Re: Married guys, a few questions

I must admit that I am surprised by the frequency with which people have advocated asking the parents first. Granted, I know this has been a traditional thing, but I didn't realize it was still so common. Interesting.

On a similar note, did anyone who asked a parent either A) Have the parent ruin the suprise or B) Have the parent say no?

Beanie: "Alright, let me be the first to say congratulations to then. You get one vagina for the rest of your life. Real smart Frank. Way to work it through."

That's a lil advice from the great movie old school...

      Enjoy being married.....

Re: Married guys, a few questions

My wife and I went looking around at different designs a good 6 months to a year before I proposed, so it gave me a good idea of what she liked. I went to a jeweler and had worked with him on the design.

About 2 months before I proposed, I went to her dad and asked him for his blessing. What I did was when I realized I wanted to marry my wife, which was a good 2 years before proposing, I was saving up my money every month knowing about how much I was going to spend.

To your question about asking her dad, all I did was went to his Auto Body Shop and asked him there. It all depends on how comfortable you are asking him in a public place or in private.

              Good luck Dookie.

You probably won't, after all, you wouldn't want to hold her purse while she goes to the restroom.

My girl told me many times she doesn't like diamonds , she like stones, so the one I got she was just in love with it.
                    Re-Engaged = 2 engagement rings?

I had been trying forever to think of a way to ask her so she would be surprised, but I knew anytime I brought up something to do, she would expect me to ask her. Well on Valentines Day I made her a coupon book that had things like free foot rub, car wash, picnic etc... so Friday at work she called me and was like lets go to the park by the river and have a picnic. I was like perfect, she will not expect anything because she asked me. So I told her I would make dessert (A cake). So we are eating, the sun is setting etc... I was just sitting there telling her how I felt about her and how happy she made me and what have you and I was like do you want dessert now? She was like sure... so when she went to take the top off the cake pan, I had wrote with icing "Will you marry me?" and at the bottom I had the ring sitting in the cake. It was a perfect moment and I thought it was different.

Congrats Dook. Glad to hear it worked out. If you dont mind me asking, how did you bring it up with her dad? Were you pretty nervous, or confident going in?

Confident. I just asked him to come outside, told him how much I cared for his daughter etc... and asked him if I could have his premission to marry her.
