Re: OS Off Topic
So my new ferret Blaize is 14 weeks old right now. He weighs 2.5 lbs, which has been the average size of our full grown male ferrets. He is going to be an absolute monster of a ferret. He is also freakishly intelligent for a baby, I will get some pictures of his antics to show you. He could be the coolest animal who ever lived.Comment

Certainly he could have changed in the 7 or so years since HS. But numerous examples of being 'the' jock in the school, the parties, the general FU attitude to anyone who wasn't on the team...
I mean he was like any other big time athlete I suppose.
BTW, what luck we had a HS in terms of great athletes. In Elementary School I'd go up to HS to watch the Barber twins just dominate the competition and then come high school with J.J. who such a sweet shooter.http://flotn.blogspot.com

I suck at not buying things. Picked up Little Big Planet and Socom. Plus the Fallout 3 guide. Damn!I don't like the Yankees, I like the Red Sox, I don't like the Lakers, I like the Celtics, I hate the Canadiens and I love the Bruins. Soccer is the best sport on Earth, but most Americans are too ignorant to realize it. I am American.

We had more trick or treaters this year then last. Last year we only had like 5 kids come to the house. This year we had quite a few, not as much as in my old neighborhood but it was nice to see kids out there.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Re: OS Off Topic
We just got news today that my grandpa's (who has had liver cancer since March and has been pretty sick) liver cancer is gone! They said it is in remission, so that is certainly good news. I'm not sure if it may come back or anything, but the radiation treatment which he has been undergoing for about I month (I think it's been about that long) seem to have worked.
Now the Rays just need to win the World Series and he'll be really happy I'll bet (He lives an hour north of Tampa)!
My grandpa fell a few days ago and was put in the hospital since he was cut really badly. However, he got delirious (which was probably why he fell at the Waffle House) and had a really bad night last night apparently. Suddenly, I get a phone call at 8:30 tonight (when I was thinking he was doing quite well and just had to recover from a few scrapes from the fall) from my mom who just went down there a few nights ago to visit him and I hear that his liver and lungs have failed and that he only has a few hours to live. She calls back at 9:15 and reports he died at 9:04 PM.
He's going to be buried back up in Virginia where he was born sometime this week I think.
It's weird, though, because my mom just went down there to visit him a couple days ago and had not seen him since July. She knew he was doing better, but wanted to see him anyways, and look what happened. The same thing also happened when my other Grandpa died since he died when my dad was on vacation from work, so my dad was able to be with him when he otherwise would not have been able to. Coincidence? Maybe, but there could have been some divine intervention.
Whatever the case, I'm not terribly heartbroken about his death since I've been expecting it any day since March. It was sort of sudden, though, since he was supposed to be doing better with his cancer in remission. I think it was the chemotherapy wreaking havoc on his liver which ultimately did him in.
I was pretty close to him, though, and it's weird knowing that I'll never be able to see or talk to him on earth again. The last time I talked to him was Monday, I think, about the World Series and that is also the last time I'll ever talk to him.Comment

Re: OS Off Topic
Wow SJ, that sucks man. I've gone through it, and I'm one to handle this situations quite well, but I know it can be tough.
I'll share a story. In a month and change, it will be exactly a year since my dad suffered a stroke. Dec 16 to be exact. He apparently had it, and didn't really think anything of it. It happened while he was scraping off ice from his car windshield, my dad had worked 2 jobs(day/night) back then. I wake up that day, around noon, getting ready for football, Eagles/Cowboys to be exact. My dad had called out from work, because he fell, from the stroke obviously, and his leg was hurting him.
I didn't think it was serious, and was joking about him just wanting a day off of work and what not. My dad went back to sleep, and it was time for dinner, and from there we figured something had to be wrong. He wasn't able to hold on to the cup to drink soda, had dropped it twice. I knew right off the bat it was something serious, my cousin and uncle came over and we took him to the hospital.
Since then, my life has been completely different. We barely make it by to be honest. My dad has had two seizures since then, btw he had a stroke to his left arm and leg. The doctors told us within 6months he will be walking like normal again, well he still isn't. They took him off disability in June, and we're barely making ends meet with me and my sisters paychecks, and the little amoutn we get from social security.
IDK, figured I'd get this off my chest and let the people here know, if you guys care.
Anyway, this kind of explains why I went through a stretch of barely being online.
To be honest, it's taken so long for my dad to make progress, I've had days where I sat and thought what it would be like if he would never go back to "normal" if you will. I really hope he does, because my dad is the type that neverl iked sitting at home, and he does get frustrated with the fact that he has to stay home almost all day, although he has been getting out and about lately, and even started driving again.Comment

Wow CJ, that's terrible man. Stay strong and hopefully things work out for the best.
I know what you mean about watching your dad suffer. It's not similar (as it was short term), but my dad had a heart attack two years ago, while working on his car, and didn't know about it for three days...he just thought it was bad indigestion. When he finally went in the doc pretty much told him he was due for a second one any minute and it would have killed him. Thank god my Mom got him to go to the hospital, where he had a stent put in and he's since had excellent checkups.
