When you speak do you actually say it's "17:10" or is there some kind of shorthand for the time?

Just did the math, I'm averaging about 100 posts per year.
Don't you EVER read my blog? It's gotten a lot better.

I had about a year hiatus but I've been whoring it up lately.

In all seriousness if they didn't have post counts I wouldn't care.

There are days when I post it up like a madman and other days where I don't say too much. I find that a lot of the big event threads are what brings up my post total.

In reality I don't notice post count much anymore. Everyone here has something valuable to say even if they only have 1 post in their history.

My average is 2.66 per day. The first two years killed me cause I was just lurking mostly, so I'd say recently I average more around 5 in the past year or two

I hate the math professors at OSU they take off points for the most trivial things then don't explain what they took the points off for. I got my midterm back and I got 5 points taken off of one problem but I have no idea what for since I got the answer right, they just circled some exponent and then took off the points. On a couple other problems I got points taken off for actually writing out what I did rather than doing a shortcut. I'm going to the professor tomorrow to get this **** explained.

To summarize the gist of this article is that college isn't for everyone. What do people think of this article?
Very interesting article. One of the better ones I've read in a long while.

Unfortunately, it highlights the issues with college education.

Before I continue, I advise people read the article before commenting on it. It isn't about whether or not school is for everyone. It's about whether or not college is for everyone. I think there's a difference.

The professor writing the article does a good job detailing the struggles of one particular student but it clearly illustrates the issues that over half his class demonstrates. The world has changed a lot and when it requires that people go back to school, years after graduating, years after working in a particular position, to get a promotion it doesn't take into account what skills were never heightened or strengthened.

It's true that many people expect to be rewarded for going to college. It's the belief that you are told to take a few courses, pass, graduate with a new degree, and receive a promotion or pay raise and there are no true obstacles. On the contrary, new students find that there are many obstacles including taking courses that might not even relate to their general field of study. Though, it needs to be taken into consideration that the writer is an English professor and if a student can not pass English 101 then you might wonder how they planned to pass anything at all.

My only issue, which isn't an issue at all but more a realization of how professors can at times fail the student, is the professor's unwillingness to help the struggling students. He mentions that coming up with a theme/topic is part of the curriculum or the assignment and simply handing one out would be wrong. But what harm could be done to walk someone through the process? Instead, he opts for simple answers like, "No, that does not fit the description of the assignment," or shaking his head in disbelief.

He does mention that he, himself, is an evening professor working a second job because he struggled at some point in his life. And like the students there he just wants a free evening. While that's fair and understandable, it worries me that a professor would appear to lack enthusiasm for teaching a course. Rather it seems as if the professor deems it mandatory for survival. His survival.

The professor does struggle with handing out poor grades so it's obvious that he does care for his students. But there is much to be said of actions over words. His actions definitely speak louder. They resonate through frustrated and anguished faces across his students. If he does not have the time to teach his students after the bell then perhaps he should consider another second job.

That being said, his words are true. Some students can not survive in college. Some do not possess the skills required to succeed in college. I will back the educational institutions that allow almost any student in so that they can improve their intellect but at times I wonder if these institutions are more interested in the dollar than rewarding the lives of young, and sometimes older, individuals. It's a system that needs improvement and a reason why we need more teachers, dedicated teachers, in America.

It is why I have now considered the possibility of teaching. I just have not decided if I would be hypocritical of myself. Do I have the energy and desire to teach after the bell, to dedicate my energy to a struggling student? At times I believe I do. Other times I often wonder.

That power and decision making truly is a metaphor for feeling like you are in the basement of an ivory tower.

Nahh, we say 5:10, but we don't write AM or PM and I'm to lazy to write it here...We can write/say 5 in the evening/afternoon or something like that, but it's easier to use the 24h-format rather than the 12h while writing imo.

Well, my post count is 18.12 per day now. I have been posting regularly since I have been here, so there have been no dry spells. I'm going to be honest, from October-January I was a post whore (especially in the college football forum) at one point reaching 19.8 posts per day. Since then, especially in the last month, I have been dropping by about 0.03 posts per day. I guess we'll be down to 18 soon, then 17, 16, ect...

Over the last few months, I probably have averaged around 5-7 posts per day. That would be my guess.
