By the time your daughter hits 5th or 6th grade she'll have heard every cuss word imaginable at school. That's just the way it goes.

It's inevitable...but for adults in public to not take into consideration what a parent may or may not want to hear their kid say is another thing. Regardless of why certain words are deemed inappropriate...they are deemed this way and to say F-the world, I'm going to do what I want because I can is just kind of disrespectful to everyone else. If you know your words may offend even one bystander, why continue to say them (unless your making a intentional protest)? The reason can be nothing but selfish.

yes, i assume since you asked me that question that you fall into that category of people who are offended by these so called "cussing words". please correct me if i am wrong.

you see these types of reponses right here make me for our future as well. people actually agree with me because im making sense. stupidity and ignorance does not come from having an opinion that is different from your own. to make matters worse you refuse to believe my opinion because it is so different than your own when in reality im just making too much sense.

if i wanted to agitate folks i would consider their opinion null and void and just write them off as stupid or ignorant(remind you of someone?) but instead i respect everyone's opinions and try not to flame or insult anyone personally. its mighty funny how i get flamed and insulted all the time and yet i have never done the same to anyone else.

so im going to have to disagree with the whole "You're a little punk if you expose children to things an innocent shouldn't be around, and that includes foul language." theory.

Where do you draw the line? Only with language? What about something like public nudity? What if some old guy decides to just whip out his johnson in front of your daughter and go to town? Just because "society" agrees that it's wrong and has a law against it, but he feels it's right, is that OK? If not, why?

see thats the problem, i was just agreeing with one poster about cursing words, or any words of that matter not really being a big deal. yeah the kids were wrong for cussing out loud while the child was there i don't even think anyone can disagree about that. then when i mentioned how i would handle my children as far as cursing is concerned people told me not to have kids. the rest of the my posts were me explaining myself.

yeah that would be true if you knew me but you don't. as a matter of fact i do have i guess what you would call "normal" opinions from time to time but i only really post when i disagree with something. if i wanted attention i would define post more than 289 times in the span of a year i can tell you that. the only things that really get me riled up are hypocrisy to tell you the truth.

well really and truly nudity,sex,using the bathroom, etc..., have always been considered wrong. its not like cursing words, the n-word, and other racial slurs in which people started using them to offend someone i guess and now the word is taboo. i mean calling someone fat is offensive and yet it is not a cursing word. as a matter of fact their are alot of words that offend people and none of them are considered cursing words. the correct question would be why is something wrong that offends you but does not offend me.

That's not entirely true, in most of Europe nudity is not considered wrong at all. The European attitude towards nudity is much more laid back compared to the US. The attitude towards sex is also much different in a lot of countries.

With cursing, pretty much every part of the world has it's taboo words.

This is another debate really...which you and others have touched in here and is the one point I will agree with you on and that is why are these words worse than other.

However, for this current debate topic , it's a fact that in our culture, these words are obsence, offensive, taboo, etc. With that being said and generally accepted in society, why would one say these with kids around.

However, the second debate is why are these words deemed and accepted as offensive...in reality, the answer is "Just Becuse they Are."

Why is Sh*t different from crap? Why is one acceptable and one not. Why can one be said on TV and one not?

Same with the F-word and every other word it can be exchanged for. I can say I'm going to go home and make love to my wife and no one thinks twice, but if I say I'm going to go ahead and F- my wife, people would go crazy.

I accept the way things are, but when you think about why, it's all kind of silly.

Why and how did these words become "slang" and wrong?

Also, in the last 5 - 10 years, it seems that much more has been tollerated when it comes to basic TV and the use of these words.

And finally, the biggest gaffe to me is that we can pretty much see anything when it comes to violence on TV (Think of what they show on CSI, 24, etc), but we can't see a set of boobs without huge fines coming from the FCC...funny where the morals are. Apperanly having sex with someone is worse than cutting of their head.

yeah but public nudity in the states are against the law while saying what you want to say for the most part is not. so even if it was ok, you would get arrested for it. the U.S. prides itself on the freedom of speech and so the last thing anyone should be thinking about is what words come out of another's mouth.
