Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
When it comes to tipping(at a sit down, dine in restraunt, not talking pick up or delivery) I usually either tip quite a bit, or very little. There is normally no in between
If the waitress/waiter is kind, nice, takes our order, gets our food, and does so in a polite and quick fashion, they get a solid 30% tip.
However if they are rude, slow, and are not polite/patient with me, I will only tip a dollar or two regardless of the bill.
Also I hate the waitress/waiter that is overly nice and does too much small talk. Sure I want them to be polite and nice to me as a customer, but I don't want to sit there and talk to you about our lives, I want you to go get my order in and my food out to me lol. So I tend to tip these kinds of waitresses a little less, but not too much less since at least they aren't rude.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I used to go to the barber to get a buzz cut but man they just wanna talk and talk and talk. Half the time they aren't even cutting while they talk, they cut a little, then pause to chit chat.
So I just bought a really nice pair of clippers and buzz my hair myself now, so much less of a hassle. I take my time and get my head done in 10 minutes or so. Rather than a 10 minute drive to the barber, 40 minutes total of waiting room/hair cutting/chit chatting, and 10 minutes of a drive back home.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
I usually tip well. I usually enter at the set price of 15% of my bill. The waiter/waitress either starts gaining or losing points based on service. Usually superb wait staff end up near 25% while subpar get around 7.5-10%. Most of the time the staffs usually do an adequate to above adequate job and earn the 15-20% range. I usually round up credit card charges to the nearest dollar as well on top of the percentage.
If I have a gift card, I tip even better. I've had meals come back zero balanced with a gift card and have left the full price of the meal as a tip to excellent service.
I've only ever left no tip once in my entire life. The service was completely lousy. The staff was unfriendly, took them forever to seat us when the place was empty. Took forever for them to take our order and get our drinks. Another time I left 2 cents and a note at a Ponderosa. We got the buffet and the lady didn't even clean our plates from the table or refill our drinks. I used a clever two cent line and told her how dissatisfied I was with the service. We never went back and they closed this past year.
I never tip (other than a keep the change here and there) on takeout orders. I'm not offered an extended service by the staff on something they just have to ring into a cash register and grab off a shelf. I go the takeout route whenever I'm low on cash and know I can't leave an adequate tip for potential excellent service.
The major thing that irks me about tips is the shared tip setup. I don't want an excellent server to share my gratitude for their job well done with the people that aren't providing adequate service. A tip is a reward for good service, not a right to half-*** a job because you know at the end of the night that you'll get your cut regardless. I usually ask when the servers are getting that bonus if they get to keep or have to share the tip. In those situations where they have to share the tips I'll leave cash, usually in smaller increments like 1s and 5s, and tell them to please keep the majority of it for themselves. If they feel like they want to share it all, that's on them, but they deserve the right to know I recognized their service and wanted to reward them personally for it.NFL: Green Bay Packers

A lot of places make you tip out the bar, bussers, and sometimes host. Sometimes even to-go people as well.
And it's a percentage of your total sales for the day/night. So if you get bad tips throughout, you're gonna walk with even less because you're giving a cut to the "help" even if you only made 10% in tips of your sales. If you're a decent person, you don't mind tipping out a good busser or bartender because they allow you to focus on your table service instead of running like a madman. It's when the bussers or bartenders suck that it becomes unfair. And bad nights happen. It typically evens out though because two nights from now you can dip outta there with a 2 stack if you're nice in the game.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Unprofessional on her part. Even if I know a person is going to tip me the change, I always gave them an option to leave it or take it. "I'll go make change for you really quick." "No it's all for you." Simple as that.
When I get a tip working the register at the pizza shop, it's awesome. No I don't expect it but it is a good feeling, so I usually leave a buck or two when I carry out. But I'm not looking down on you for not doing it because its really not necessary. I just feel like a couple bucks, even for a paycheck-to-paycheck guy like myself, is something I can afford. Good karma, I suppose.
This falls into the gear grinding post I made the other day. When I order pizza, I put tip on the card at time of purchase, usually 15-20%, plenty generous for delivery when you drive maybe 3 miles round trip. I get the evil eye quite often, as if they wonder why I'm not handing them any money... when the receipt they hand me already says I left several dollars for them.Comment

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
My wife is a waitress so we know what we expect when we dine out. As long as the waitress/waiter is polite and checks on us and bring us anything we request, we tip generously. I know people who don't tip if they sit there for ages before their meals arrive. It's not the waitress fault, she's not the one cooking it!
If I pick up take-out I do not tip. They are doing their job. Waitresses get tips because they refill your coffee, remove dishes from your table, extra napkins, etc. If they are just handing you a bag at the register that does not warrant a tip in my books.
Pizza delivery I always give the guy $5. it's worth $5 for me NOT to get in the car and go get it myself sometimes.
And I don't tip at the Tim Horton's (coffee shop) drive thru. You are handing me a cup and a bag, that does not warrant a tip either in my eyes. Alot of them will hold there hand back close to them with your change expecting you to say keep it. Don't assume!Comment

No tax here, but I'd assume the doubling of the tax is a bit low (around 15%). Not bad but I always go with 20% or a buck or two give or take.NHL - Philadelphia Flyers

Re: GUYS, What is your Perspective on Tipping
Two years ago, my wife, son, and I were having lunch at The Pink Door in Seattle (excellent fine Italian, and during the summer you eat lunch out on the deck with a view of the bay and sights and sounds of the Public Market all around you).
We had this new kid as a server named Chris (still remember his name!). He'd only been there two weeks. But man, this kid was an outstanding server; one of the two or three best we've had all-time. Very friendly, but smart and sharp, perfect timing on refills, was really accommodating for getting my son hooked up with a pizza the way he wanted it as opposed to what was offered on the menu, he was aces.
So we get to the end of the meal/desserts, and he brings me the check. I asked him if I might speak to the manager. His face visibly fell a bit but he maintained his charm and said 'Of course, sir!'. Thinking he's in trouble for something, he goes off to find the manager while I fill out the check and leave Chris a huge tip. The manager approaches the table (Chris was not in tow, which is good), and I proceeded to tell the manager how outstanding Chris is, and that he is a model for the server they should hire. Also commented on the food which was great, etc. Glowing, the manager took my check to process and left.
A few minutes pass and Chris comes back with the check and my card...and a big grin on his face. He nearly fell over himself with thanks.
I smiled and just said "Keep up the great service, Chris. You will go places."
"Oh, yes sir! Thank you sir!"
I doubt he's still at the Door, but I bet he's a success where ever he is now.
Here's the view from our table, that's West Seattle across the water.
