Re: Do you have any respect for any pro league commish?
LOL, thats completely different and you know it.What if Goodell came up with this great idea: He'd have the Bears play one game a season against the Chicago Rush of the AFL, using AFL rules. The game would count for the Bears' regular season NFL record for trying to make the playoffs, too! Because the fans in Chicago were willing to pay a lot of money to watch, that must mean it's a good idea and improves the game, right?
Maybe I'm just idealistic, but I wish baseball wasn't just about the money, like everything else. I always thought baseball would be the last sport to "sell out".
And no, it wouldn't bring money to the league. Think about it. I doubt it would even bring money in Chicago, I know I wouldn't pay to see Carolina play an AFL team.
Baseball hasn't "sold out." There are very few people who see interleague play as that. Do you want to get rid of the forward pass in football? No shot clock in basketball? Heck lets just go back to peach baskets, thats how it started.Last edited by dkgojackets; 07-05-2008, 07:07 AM.Comment

Well, how is it completely different?
Is it completely different because the rules are different? Or because the leagues have unequal amount of talent?
Because both of those hold true for an AL/NL comparison as well.Comment

Re: Do you have any respect for any pro league commish?
The simplest answer is that Chicago would be playing a team outside of the NFL whereas both the AL and NL are part of MLB, but that would make too much sense. There's also the fact that Chicago would be the only team doing this whereas all AL and NL teams are involved in interleague play, but this must have been too obvious as well.Comment

The last commish I had total respect for was Pete Rozelle. Roger Goodell could easily earn my respect depending on how he handles the Buffalo situation. The rest of em are clowns.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Then I guess you don't understand the MLB. Let me put it this way. The NFL is a league (hence the "L") with two conferences. The conferences are basically interchangable. It's still one league, though. The same holds true for the AFL.
Major League Baseball is composed of two separate leagues - the National League and the American League. They don't even play by the same rules. These two separate, distinct leagues are supposed to bring their champions forth at the end of the season to determine which is the best team in the world. They aren't supposed to play each other at any other time in the season, period.
Fine, let's have every single team do this. The Eagles will have to play the 13-3 Soul, though. But the Chiefs get to play the 3-13 Brigade. That sounds better, doesn't it!
(My point here being, if you can't understand, is that the discrepancy in teams' schedules gets much wider with interleague play. Everyone in the same division should play the same schedule... but that doesn't hold true with interleague! The White Sox have to play the Cubs... but the Indians get to play the Reds.
And in the MLB, where one or two games can make the difference between the playoffs - hell, between a World Series win - or staying home, this schedule discrepancy is downright laughable.Comment

What are you talking about man? There's one commissioner. The same umpiring crews. Same television contract. Same collective bargaining agreement. Same draft. Right because every other sport ensures that each team plays the same schedule. Excellent point, don't know how I let that one get by me.Fine, let's have every single team do this. Like I said, the American League and National League are not the same league. They don't even play by the same rules.Comment

Re: Do you have any respect for any pro league commish?
I never said that... I just said that was the way it should be, and in a sport like baseball where you have 162 games to work with, every team in the same division should play the same schedule. Interleague play makes that all but impossible. Is that too difficult to understand

lol, having 162 games makes playing the exact same schedule less important than all the other sports. Do you see why?I never said that... You seem to be moving away though from contending that having just the Bears play an AFL team is the same as interleague play, so at least that's progress.Comment
