Re: 9-year old is too good?
I see that. If it happened in the way some of you said then obviously the situation would be complete bull****. I was just trying to say there are instances in which it wasn't as outrageous as some people think.its still a matter of opinion. I state stuff in "exacts" quite a bit, but more often than not, people know that its speculation on my part. Obviously, none of us here no exactly what was in the minds of the people involved in this situation, but that hasn't stopped any of us from speculating and voicing our opinions.Comment

It's funny how all you different possibilities tend to lead to the same conclusion.Comment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
This is game set match as far as I'm concerned.Maybe instead of spending time filing complaints to the league that this kid is too good, these parents should have taken their kids to the nearest park or to the nearest batting cage for a little extra BP.
"Don't worry about getting better, we'll just make the competition worse"
The woosification of America at it's best.
If my kid ever came to me and complained that the pitcher he faced was too good (or anything similar), the last thing I'm going to do is call and complain to the league or file a complain. I'll tell him that he'll just have to get better or find something else to play.
I understand this kid may be better than others, but he's only 9 years old. He's not going to understand the politics when he gets booted from this league to go play with a bunch of older kids that he doesn't know. He's a 2nd or 3rd grader.
In every league of every sport, somebody is always going to be the best. There is no way around it. The other kids should be striving to beat this kid instead of getting rid of him. Through highschool, there was always a kid that was heads and shoulders better than anyone else when it came to talent and ability. You just sucked it up, did your best and tipped your cap if you got beat. We didn't file a protest to have them booted from the league or to prevent him from doing what he did best.
I bet there are kids in the league that are equally good hitters that aren't getting the shaft because they only dominate 4 or 5 times a game instead of for 6 straight innings.
The part that I bolded is exactly how I would handle things. I would help my child get every edge he could, but that's just me though. Most parents today would rather have the coaches and teachers of the world do their job.Comment

Not quite game, set...match.This is game set match as far as I'm concerned.

Couldn't the same be accomplished by just sending the kid who is far better up a level?
IMO...the age should have nothing to do with it.
What do they do with kids in school who are far, far advanced for their classes? Do they have them sit there and answer every question and sometimes correct the teachers? Do they tell every parent of the other kids...you better get your kids a team of tutors......No...they move him up to a level of learning more in line with what he is capable of.
What good does it do that kid to stay in that class outperforming everyone else? Nada.
I read that and a couple of other articles and to me it seems like the kid himself and the parents seem to relish that he throws no-hitter after no-hitter(and I don't mean in just an "I'm proud" way...more in a "nobody can touch me.....haha" way.
C'mon...you really can't be that shallow as a parent that you can't be gracious enough to say....in a DEVELOPMENTAL league especially.......that maybe we should move our kid up.
They started this league to help the kids learn.....OKAY...this kid "learned" quickly.....time to move on...
If this was a total competitive league...sure all bets are off...but from what I read....this isn't the scheme.

Re: 9-year old is too good?
Moving him up sounds good and all, but the physical difference between 9 year olds and 11 and 12 year olds is quite big. Moving a kid up a few grade levels will not put them in any physical jeopardy, however moving that same kid up in a sport could put him in a position in which he is less than equipped to handle. What happens when one of these bigger stronger kids who's used to hitting pitches that are probably thrown harder that this 9 year old can throw drives one right back through the box? A ball coming off a bat can be far more destructive than a pitched ball. Not quite game, set...match.

Seems to me
So next thing you know we have an article about how a 9 year old boy was forced to play with kids far exceeding his physical maturity and he was severely injured in the process. Then we have a 50 page thread with people ranting and raving about who was looking out for the best interest of the child and their parents should be locked up for child endangerment.
In all honesty, I didn't watch any of the Little League World Series, but I would be more that willing to bet that there were no 9 year olds playing. They would be so overmatched it wouldn't even be funny.Comment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
Kids 11-13 throw in the 60's, this kids throws in the low 40's it sounds like. He would get shelled if played with kids that old.
The physical difference is huge in those age groups. I'm sure many of you don't remember puberty, but when you hit it, your body changes fast. A 9 year old has no business being on the same field with kids that age.Comment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
Yeah...I guess there is no "perfect" solution to this.
The kid is obviously too good for those kids...maybe they could find a better group of 9-10 year old's for him to play with.

Re: 9-year old is too good?
Exactly. No need to move him up an age group. Just move him out of the developmental league into a more competitive one.Member of The OS Baseball Rocket Scientists AssociationComment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
Which would work, but it is Connecticut. We're not talking Florida, California or Texas where there are huge populations and leagues are pretty deep. I'm sure if were as easy as moving him up just a notch it would have been done, but who really knows.
The thing is, it just kind of stinks to me. When an invitation is extended in youth sports there is usually a reason behind it and more than likely it has to do with a team gaining an advantage by having the player on the team. They're not walking around local neighborhoods knocking on doors handing out invitations to all the kids.Comment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
I find this kind of stuff as funny as can be. I wonder why they didnt tell LeBron that he needed to leave High school because he was so much better than everybody else and bigger.
Parents arent teaching their kids crap nowadays.Comment

Re: 9-year old is too good?
The kid was good to go for 8 games and on the verge of the playoffs, now he needs to be moved up or out of the league. There is always someone better then you folks, it's part of life. You learn and adjust. No way he could play with 11-13 years old.Comment
